All children are welcome here, but we know that a fussy baby is much louder to a parent s ears than to any of ours. If you have need: We have a nursery (for children kindergarten and below) down the main stairs and to the left. It is staffed with volunteers, who will gladly care for any little ones who show up at the beginning of the service. If there are none, the volunteers will come up to the sanctuary, the nursery room will remain available. There is also a diaper change station in the Nursery and in both downstairs restrooms. We have a speaker in the narthex so that you DIY soothers can listen while you walk the little ones around. Worship Service Notes ANNOUNCEMENTS YOUTH GROUP EVENTS The Youth Group will meet tonight for a campfire at the Heather and James Kriebel s home at 6 p.m. Next Sunday, Nov. 18 th, the Youth Group will be preparing and serving dinner for the Safe Nights participants. Donations will continue through next Sunday, November 18. Donations can be placed in the large baskets available in the narthex storage closet. Everyone in attendance is encouraged to have one item of food to donate during the service. Baskets will be located at the front of the sanctuary for donations to be submitted as part of this ceremony. Anyone with questions regarding the program can contact Jack Tuttle. NEW ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS November/December there will be a new Adult Sunday School Option, led by Michele Gaskill on Nov 11, 18, 25, Dec 2, 9, 16, 23, 30. Our resource will be: Amazing Grace, A Vocabulary of Faith by Kathleen Norris, from the New York Times-bestselling author of The Cloister Walk, a book about Christianity, spirituality, and rediscovered faith. Struggling with her return to the Christian church after many years away, Kathleen Norris found it was the language of Christianity that most distanced her from faith. Words like "judgment," "faith," "dogma," "salvation," "sinner" even "Christ" formed what she called her "scary vocabulary," words that had become so codified or abstract that their meanings were all but impenetrable. She found she had to wrestle with them and make them her own before they could confer their blessings and their grace. Blending history, theology, storytelling, etymology, and memoir, Norris uses these words as a starting point for reflection. We will be reading some chosen excerpts aloud and discussing what they mean to each of us individually and as a church body learning to be disciples. Purchase of book is optional. Announcements continued on next page.

FRIENDS WHO LUNCH The Friends Who Lunch will meet together this Tuesday, November 13 th, with a luncheon at Szechuan Garden in Waldorf. They will meet there at 12:00 noon. Please plan to join us for good food and great fellowship. There is a sign-up sheet in the narthex. For further information call the church office. A WALK TO END HOMELESSNESS The Walk is this Sat., Nov. 17 th. This Walk is the primary fundraiser for the Safe Nights emergency shelter in Charles County. We will be sending a team from the church start time is 9 am, but walkers should start gathering around 8:30. The cost to walk as a team member is $20. Please sign up in the Narthex if you plan to walk. Checks should be made out to GSPC and can be placed in the envelope in the Narthex or marked "WALK" and put in the offering plate. Donations from those who cannot make it to the Walk will be gratefully accepted. FIRST READING 1 KINGS 17: 8-16 8 Then the word of the LORD came to him, saying, 9 Go now to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and live there; for I have commanded a widow there to feed you. 10 So he set out and went to Zarephath. When he came to the gate of the town, a widow was there gathering sticks; he called to her and said, Bring me a little water in a vessel, so that I may drink. 11 As she was going to bring it, he called to her and said, Bring me a morsel of bread in your hand. 12 But she said, As the LORD your God lives, I have nothing baked, only a handful of meal in a jar, and a little oil in a jug; I am now gathering a couple of sticks, so that I may go home and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it, and die. 13 Elijah said to her, Do not be afraid; go and do as you have said; but first make me a little cake of it and bring it to me, and afterwards make something for yourself and your son. 14 For thus says the LORD the God of Israel: The jar of meal will not be emptied and the jug of oil will not fail until the day that the LORD sends rain on the earth. 15 She went and did as Elijah said, so that she as well as he and her household ate for many days. 16 The jar of meal was not emptied, neither did the jug of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD that he spoke by Elijah. SECOND READING MARK 12: 38-44 38 As Jesus taught, he said, Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes, and to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces, 39 and to have the best seats in the synagogues and places of honor at banquets! 40 They devour widows houses and for the sake of appearance say long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation. 41 He sat down opposite the treasury, and watched the crowd putting money into the treasury. Many rich people put in large sums. 42 A poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which are worth a penny. 43 Then he called his disciples and said to them, Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the treasury. 44 For all of them have contributed out of their abundance; but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.

We are pleased that you have chosen to worship with us today. There are fellowship pads at the end of the row, please pass them, and sign them, so that you can learn the names of those who are sitting near you and so that they can know yours as well. Provide other information as desired. After the service, talk to old friends and meet some new ones. We have snacks and coffee downstairs. We have a platform lift for anyone who doesn t do well with stairs, see an usher for assistance. Please be mindful that as we prepare for worship we are entering sacred space and sacred time. O Praise the Name I cast my mind to Calvary Where Jesus bled and died for me. I see His wounds, His hands, His feet. My Savior on that cursed tree His body bound and drenched in tears They laid Him down in Joseph's tomb. The entrance sealed by heavy stone Messiah still and all alone O praise the name of the Lord our God O praise His name forever more For endless days we will sing Your praise Oh Lord, oh Lord our God Then on the third at break of dawn, The Son of heaven rose again. O trampled death where is your sting? The angels roar for Christ the King He shall return in robes of white, The blazing Son shall pierce the night. And I will rise among the saints, My gaze transfixed on Jesus' face I Can Only Imagine I can only imagine what it will be like when I walk by Your side. I can only imagine what my eyes will see when Your face is before me. Surrounded by Your glory, what will my heart feel? Will I dance for You Jesus, or in awe of You be still? Will I stand in Your presence, or to my knees will I fall? Will I sing Hallelujah? Will I be able to speak at all? Start a Fire This world can be cold and bitter, feels like we re in the dead of winter, Waitin on something better. But am I really gonna hide forever? Over and over again, I hear Your voice in my head, Let Your light shine, let Your light shine for all to see. Chorus Start a fire in my soul. Fan the flame and make it grow. So there s no doubt or denying. Let it burn so brightly that everyone around can see. That it s You, that it s You that we need. Start a fire in me. You only need a spark to start a whole blaze. It only takes a little faith. Let it start right here in this city so these walls will never be the same. Over and over again, I hear Your voice in my head, They need to know. I need to go. Spirit won t you fall on my heart now. (Chorus) You are the fire. You are the flame. You are the light on the darkest day. We have the hope. We bear Your name. We carry the news that You have come to save Only You can save (Chorus) I can only imagine when that day comes when I find myself standing in the Son I can only imagine when all I will do is forever, forever worship You. I can only imagine when all I will do is forever, forever worship You. I can only imagine.
