DAILY WORD (Week 1 7 May 018) All Bible references are taken from New King James Version (NKJV) of the Holy Bible. Monday, 1 st May 018 Prayer For All 1 Timothy : 1 1 Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. The church has a responsibility to stand on behalf of the people before God and pray for them. The prayer of the church will preserve Godliness in the spiritual atmosphere, which in turn will have an influence over the daily life of the people. When the church stops praying, wickedness begins to increase. No one else can be held responsible for the social and spiritual decay of society other than the church. That is why we must understand our spiritual standing in society. The devil will try to disrupt the influence of the church by trying to introduce worldliness and remove Godliness. We must not lose our focus and get distracted by all kinds of worries and anxiety. Therefore stand firm on the promises of God. Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to be faithful in my prayers for my country. I want Godliness and peace to reign in my society. In Jesus Name I pray. Amen. Matthew 16: 18 18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. (Contributed by Rev. Ebenezer David) Morning John 7 : 1-7 Evening 1 Chronicles 13 15 Tuesday, nd May 018 Focus On God And Not On Riches Proverbs 3: 17 18 17 Do not let your heart envy sinners, But be zealous for the fear of the LORD all the day; 18 For surely there is a hereafter, And your hope will not be cut off. Many define success in terms of wealth. The richer a person gets the more successful they are is a common perception. However the method of becoming successful varies and some use corrupt practices to acquire wealth. Scripture tells us to not become envious of those who use sinful methods for self-gain. Rather we need to live a life with the fear of God. Whether we work or we are studying, there must be exemplary practices of Godliness in our life. It may look that we are not achieving great wealth by obeying God s word but do not be discouraged. For whatever we attain through our God given ability will have its reward. It will come with God s blessings of peace and joy together with His protections. Therefore seek God and not riches because riches without peace or joy are meaningless. Prayer: Heavenly Father, teach me to seek You all the days of my life and not get distracted by the worldly wealth. I want to live with peace and joy. In Jesus Name I pray. Amen Psalm 37: 16 A little that a righteous man has Is better than the riches of many wicked. (Contributed by Rev. Ebenezer David)
Morning John 7 : 8-53 Evening 1 Chronicles 16-18 Wednesday, 3 rd May 018 Second Chance. Jonah 1:1-5 Now the word of the LORD came to Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry out against it; for their wickedness has come up before Me. 3 But Jonah arose to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the LORD. He went down to Joppa, and found a ship going to Tarshish; so he paid the fare, and went down into it, to go with them to Tarshish from the presence of the LORD. But the LORD sent out a great wind on the sea, and there was a mighty tempest on the sea, so that the ship was about to be broken up. 5 Then the mariners were afraid; and every man cried out to his god, and threw the cargo that was in the ship into the sea, to lighten the load. But Jonah had gone down into the lowest parts of the ship, had lain down, and was fast asleep. What is the meaning or definition of Second Chance? According to Merriam Webster Dictionary it means an opportunity to try something again after failing one time. This was what exactly happened in the life of Jonah. Now the Word of the Lord came to Jonah, the son of Amittai, saying, Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry out against it, for their wickedness has come up before Me. But Jonah ran away from the presence of the Lord and went to Tarshish instead of Nineveh. God wanted to save the people of Nineveh. That was why He appointed Jonah. But Jonah refused to do. So the Lord sent out a great wind on the sea, and there was a mighty tempest on the sea, so that the ship was about to be broken up. All the people came to know that Jonah was to be blamed. And they threw him into sea, and immediately it ceased from its raging. But God prepared a great fish to swallow Jonah. And he was there 3 days and 3 nights. Then Jonah prayed to the Lord and offered a sacrifice of thanksgiving. And the Lord spoke to the fish and it vomited Jonah onto dry land. Now, an opportunity has been given by the Lord to Jonah. He failed the first time. A second chance was given to him. In our lives too, God has given us many second chances. Let us not take lightly of these opportunities, but rather fulfill everything that God wants us to do. Jonah :1 Then Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from the fish s belly. Jonah :9-10 9 But I will sacrifice to You With the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay what I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD. 10 So the LORD spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land. Morning John 8 : 1-7 Evening 1 Chronicles 19-1 Thursday th May 018 Sin traps us. Genesis 3:1-3 Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, Has God indeed said, You shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said to the serpent, We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; 3 but of the fruit of the tree which is in the
midst of the garden, God has said, You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die. Though war may rise against me, In this I will be confident. Satan comes to confuse our mind. He is very clever in this. He came and confused Eve. Adam and Eve had a beautiful relationship with God in the garden of Eden. God walked among them. And God told them what they ought to do and what they ought not to do. Eve knew God. But yet, she fell into Satan s trap. She saw the fruit was pleasant to her eyes. Pleasant feelings lead to desires. Our flesh always desires the pleasures of the world. Many of us are like Eve. We also know God. But we still disobey God and reject God s Word. Whenever we disobey God, we fall into Satan s trap. So, we must always examine ourselves with the word of God, and put ourselves right before God. Corinthians :11 11 lest Satan should take advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices. Morning John 8 : 8-59 Evening 1 Chronicles - Friday, 5 th May 018 I have total confidence in my God. Psalm 7:1-3 The LORD is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked came against me To eat up my flesh, My enemies and foes, They stumbled and fell. 3 Though an army may encamp against me, My heart shall not fear; King David saw God as his Light and Salvation, and, from this confidence, he declares that God is the strength of his life. If God is the strength of one s life, there is also, no room for fear and no reason to be afraid. How do you see God in your life, Is He your Light and Salvation, and the Strength of your life? Have full confidence in Jesus Christ and walk daily in the presence of the Holy Spirit and He will protect you from all wickedness. May the blessings of God be with you throughout the week. May God bless you tremendously. Psalm 7: One thing I have desired of the LORD, That will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the LORD All the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the LORD, And to inquire in His temple. (Contributed by Rev. Johnathan) Morning John 9 : 1-3 Evening 1 Chronicles 5 7 Saturday, 6 th May 018 Praise the Lord. Psalm 150:1- Praise the LORD! Praise God in His sanctuary; Praise Him in His mighty firmament! Praise Him for His mighty acts; Praise Him according to His excellent greatness! 3 Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet; Praise Him with the lute and harp! Praise Him with the timbrel and dance; Praise Him with stringed instruments and flutes!
The whole Psalm is about Praising God in different ways, for He is Worthy. Where do we Praise Him? We praise Him in the sanctuary, that is, wherever we gather in His name (Matthew 18:0). Then, we praise Him in His mighty firmament, that is, expanse or sky (Psalms 19:1), that is, His creation motivates us to praise Him. Then, we continue to praise Him for His mighty acts, that is miracles, healings, deliverance etc, both past and present. And lastly, we praise Him for His excellent greatness which we are in. Then the next thing is, how do we praise Him? We praise Him with different instruments, (verse 3, b) and the 1 st part of verse (a) tells us of praising God with timbrel and dance, dance plays a part in praising God. God is always Worthy to be praised and we all who breathe are made to Praise Him (Psalms 150:6). Dear brother and sister in Jesus Christ as you continue to praise God at all times, His Presence will envelope you. May God the Holy Spirit be with you throughout the week and bless you. Matthew 18:0 0 For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them. Psalm 19:1 The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork. Psalm 150:6 6 Let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Praise the LORD! Morning John 9 : -1 Evening 1 Chronicles 8-9 (Contributed by Rev. Johnathan) Sunday, 7 th May 018 The Sacrifice of Praise and thanksgiving. Jonah :8-10 8 Those who regard worthless idols Forsake their own Mercy. 9 But I will sacrifice to You With the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay what I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD. 10 So the LORD spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land. Now, the Lord had commanded a great fish to swallow Jonah. And Jonah was practically in the belly of the fish three days and three nights. I couldn t imagine Jonah s feelings. He was swallowed by the fish but he did not die. God gave instruction to the fish not to eat him. From the belly of the fish, Jonah remembered the Lord and he prayed to the Lord. At the end of his prayer, he said, But I will sacrifice to You with the voice of thanksgiving. And God heard his prayer and delivered him from the belly of the fish. Jonah s sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving delivered him. What are your situation today? Are you in problems, troubles, pain, etc. Whatever it is, the God who heard the prayer of Jonah, will hear your prayers too. Come before the Lord, with praise and thanksgiving, surrender everything to Him. He will see you through. Philippians :6 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; Morning John 10 : 1-3 Evening Chronicles 1 3
