Presbyterian Church 55 Smith Street E. Stroudsburg, PA 18301 570-421-5821 espresbyterian@verizon.net From Our Pastor Dear Friends, I am very excited to invite you to Lunch and Learn. Lunch and Learn will meet on Mondays in the Lounge thru Room 2 at 12 noon. Bring your lunch as we will learn together! Our topic for Lunch and Learn is C.S. Lewis Reluctant Disciple Faith, Reason and the Power of the Gospel. The cover reads Escaping to a place of imagination and mythology during his time away in English Boarding Schools, young C.S. Lewis convinced himself that God did not exist. And despite his Christian upbringing, he moved further and further from the truth, ceasing to be a Christian in every aspect of the word. But from the trenches of World War I to his time at Oxford University, he began to seek the Lord until God s indescribable joy finally found him. C.S. Lewis is one of the 20 th century s most significant writers. His work includes Mere Christianity, the Chronicles of Narnia, and The Screwtape Letters. He has made a profound impact in the last several generations of Christians. Come to Lunch and Learn!!! You ll be glad you did! Sincerely, Pastor Freeborn Sponsor This issue of the Nexus is being sponsored by Dick and Jo McNally. We thank you for your support. If you are interested in sponsoring an issue of the Nexus for $35.00, please call Jen in the church office at 421-5821. October 2015 Fall Stewardship Campaign I Wanna Live So God Can Use Me is the theme of this year s fall pledge campaign. God has indeed blessed us abundantly this year. As we review all that has happened here at East Stroudsburg Presbyterian Church in 2015, our hearts are challenged as we envision what God has in store for us in 2016. We are entering into our annual stewardship campaign entitled, I Wanna Live So God Can Use Me. We will explore how we can use our time, talents and financial resources to fulfill our stated mission at East Stroudsburg Presbyterian Church and serve God. In mid-october, you will receive a letter and a pledge form. Please give your pledge of financial support for next year prayerful consideration. If you can increase it over this year s pledge, please consider it. We are grateful that you are a part of God s family here at East Stroudsburg Presbyterian Church and for your participation in this year s stewardship emphasis. If you have any questions about this year s program, please feel free to contact me. I d be delighted to try to answer your questions and share with you about how God continues to provide for this ministry through the generous giving of His people. Allan Erbe Adult Education Join Chris Dudley on Sunday, November 1 st at 11:15 a.m. for a class on The Church as Voluntary Association.

Fellowship Lunch On Sunday, October 18 th, we will be having a fellowship lunch in the lounge. The church will supply hoagies and drinks. You must sign up so we can get a head count to order the hoagies. We would also like you to bring either a salad or dessert. We will start around 11:30, after the 10:00 church service has ended. Come, relax and join us for a fun fellowship time. It s always nice to have time to share with other church family members. It s a great way to get to know each other better. Hope to see you there. Craft On! We have a small but enthusiastic group of Crafters who have already made me a dedicated crafter. Many talented people have shared their ideas and techniques. We re back together after our summer hiatus and would love to have you join us for some fun. This year we are focusing on seasonal crafts and have started our Christmas and wintertime themed projects. You ll get to see the fruits of our labor and have the opportunity to purchase those lovely items at the after-church Deacons coffees on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month. The Crafters have also taken on the task of decorating the lounge/dining area for the Advent Dinner in December. All of the decorations will be available for purchase and the proceeds, as always, go to support the Preschool. If you are a crafter or might like to try your hand at some fun projects, please consider joining us on Thursday, October 8 at noon (bring a lunch if you want) and/or Thursday, October 22 at 7pm. Also, if you sew, quilt, do needlework, make wreaths, cards, birdhouses, or any other crafty thing and would just like to donate some work to aid the cause of the Preschool, please contact the Crafters through Theresa Lawrence at 570-424-1971. In the meantime, KEEP CALM AND CRAFT ON! ~ Theresa Lawrence Operation Christmas Child During the months of September and October, we will again be collecting shoe boxes filled with gifts for children all over the world for Operation Christmas Child. Please join us in bringing the good News of Christmas to a child in need of hope through shoe boxes filled with surprises! Here are some of the ways you can be a part of Operation Christmas Child: 1. Pack a shoe box of gifts at home and bring it to the church by October 31 st. (Please note the cost of shipping and processing each shoe box is $7.00) 2. Add gift items to our collection box in the Narthex. 3. Provide a donation to help with shipping costs. (If you choose to write a check, please make it payable to East Stroudsburg Presbyterian Church only and note Operation Christmas child in the memo line.) 4. Pray for the children who will be receiving our gifts. Please visit the table in the Narthex for a list of suggested items, labels for your boxes and lots more information. If you have any questions, please see Cindy Schrick. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up (Galatians 6:9, NIV) Men s Group Meets October 14 Church men are invited to the Men s Group Luncheon on Wednesday, October 14, at 12:00 Noon in the Lounge. We will share fellowship, prayer, soup and sandwich. Our guest speaker s topic will be Do you believe in miracles? YES!!
