03-26-2017 PARISH LIFE Page 3 TODAY S READINGS First Reading Second Reading Gospel Reading 1 Samuel 16:1, 6-7, 10-13a Ephesians 5:8-14 John 9:1-41 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, A Message from Father Don In today s Gospel, John s story of the man born blind weaves together the themes of light, sight, and insight. Jesus heals the man so that he can see. However, the Pharisees remain blind because they refuse to see who Jesus really is. They are more concerned about the Sabbath laws than they are about a fellow human being in need. When Jesus identifies himself as the Son of Man, a title for the Messiah, the man says, I do believe, Lord. And he worships Jesus. The blind man not only comes to physical sight, he comes to the true light and understands Jesus is from God and this caused the man to grow in insight. We are also called to grow in insight. As we move closer to the joy of Easter, we are reminded once again that Christ is the light of the world and as baptized people who know Jesus is our light, we are called to be the light for others. This week, spend some time discerning this passage. Determine how the light of Christ will enable you to see and respond in faith to the situations in your family and your community. Together with your family resolve to be the light of Christ to all you encounter. CUARTO DOMINGO DE CUARESMA Queridos Hermanos en Cristo, Un Mensaje del Padre Don En el Evangelio de hoy, la historia de Juan el ciego de nacimiento entrelaza los temas de la luz, la vista y la visión. Jesús sana al hombre para que él pueda ver. Sin embargo, los fariseos permanecen ciegos porque se niegan a ver quién realmente es Jesús porque ellos están más preocupados por las leyes del Sábado que de un ser humano en necesidad. Cuando Jesús se identifica así mismo como el hijo del hombre, es un título para el Mesías, el hombre dice, "Creo, Señor." Y adora a Jesús. Ser ciego no sólo es a la vista física, sino llegar a la verdadera luz y entender que Jesús es de Dios y esto hizo que el hombre crezca en conocimiento. Mientras nos acercamos a la alegría de la Pascua, nos recuerda una vez más que Cristo es la luz del mundo y como bautizados quienes saben que Jesús es nuestra luz, estamos llamados a ser luz para otros. Esta semana, pasa un tiempo discerniendo este pasaje para determinar cómo la luz de Cristo te permitirá ver y responder en fe a las situaciones en tú familia y tú comunidad.
