26 th Sunday after Pentecost Holy Eucharist, Rite II Please silence your mobile phone. Parents with children in the nursery, please put your phone on vibrate. Prelude Now Thank We All arr. Burkhardt Please stand, as able, when the bell tolls for worship. Processional Sing Praise to God Who Reigns Above Hymn #408 1. Sing praise to God who reigns above, the God of all creation, The God of power, the God of love, the God of our salvation; With healing balm my soul he fills, and every faithless murmur stills: To God all praise and glory. 2. What God s almighty power hath made, his gracious mercy keepeth; By morning glow or evening shade his watchful eye ne er sleepeth. Within the kingdom of his might, lo! All is just and all is right: To God all praise and glory. 3. Let all who name Christ s holy Name give God all praise and glory; Let all who know his power proclaim aloud the wondrous story! Cast each false idol from its throne, the Lord is God, and he alone: To God all praise and glory. Acclamation L Blessed be God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. P And blessed be his kingdom, now and for ever. Amen. The Collect for Purity A Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy Name; through Christ our Lord. Amen. 3

It Is You The Collect of the Day Proper 28, BCP, p. 236 l The Lord be with you. P And also with you. l Let us pray. Blessed Lord, who caused all holy Scriptures to be written for our learning: Grant us so to hear them, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them, that we may embrace and ever hold fast the blessed hope of everlasting life, which you have given us in our Savior Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Gracious God, giver of all we have and hold as stewards; Grant the people of St. 4

Bartholomew's a deep and abiding awareness that all things come from you our health, our incomes, our jobs, our talents, and our generous impulse. Send your Holy Spirit to help us as we swim against the rising tides of materialism, envy, individualism, and greed in our culture. When we are tempted to think of money as a private matter, remind us that you have asked for part of what we are given to be returned to you as a symbol of our awareness that you give all we have. And, further, help us to help each other in this grace of giving, for you are the lover of our souls and call us to nothing less than transformation in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. The Word of God Please be seated. The First Lesson: Daniel 12:1-3 The Lord spoke to Daniel in a vision and said, At that time Michael, the great prince, the protector of your people, shall arise. There shall be a time of anguish, such as has never occurred since nations first came into existence. But at that time your people shall be delivered, everyone who is found written in the book. Many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. Those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the sky, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever. l The Word of the Lord. P Thanks be to God. Silence Psalm 16 Cantor: Congregation: Antiphon Cantor: Protect me, O God, for I take refuge in you; I have said to the Lord, You are my Lord, 5

my good above all other. All my delight is upon the godly that are in the land, upon those who are noble among the people. But those who run after other gods shall have their troubles multiplied. Their libations of blood I will not offer, nor take the names of their gods upon my lips. Congregation: Antiphon Cantor: O Lord, you are my portion and my cup; it is you who uphold my lot. My boundaries enclose a pleasant land; indeed, I have a goodly heritage. I will bless the Lord who gives me counsel; my heart teaches me, night after night. I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand I shall not fall. Congregation: Antiphon Cantor: My heart, therefore, is glad, and my spirit rejoices; my body also shall rest in hope. For you will not abandon me to the grave, nor let your holy one see the Pit. You will show me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy, and in your right hand are pleasures for evermore. Congregation: Antiphon The Second Lesson: Hebrews 10:11-25 Every priest stands day after day at his service, offering again and again the same 6

sacrifices that can never take away sins. But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, and since then has been waiting until his enemies would be made a footstool for his feet. For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are sanctified. Therefore, my friends, since we have confidence to enter the sanctuary by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain (that is, through his flesh), and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us approach with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast to the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who has promised is faithful. And let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching. l The Word of the Lord. P Thanks be to God. Silence Please stand for the reading of the Gospel. Sequence Hymn Lord, you have the words L The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Mark. P Glory to you, Lord Christ. The Holy Gospel: Mark 13:1-8 As Jesus came out of the temple, one of his disciples said to him, Look, Teacher, what large stones and what large buildings! Then Jesus asked him, Do you see these great buildings? Not one stone will be left here upon another; all will be thrown down. When he was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter, James, John, 7

and Andrew asked him privately, Tell us, when will this be, and what will be the sign that all these things are about to be accomplished? Then Jesus began to say to them, Beware that no one leads you astray. Many will come in my name and say, I am he! and they will lead many astray. When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed; this must take place, but the end is still to come. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there will be earthquakes in various places; there will be famines. This is but the beginning of the birthpangs. L The Gospel of the Lord. P Praise to you, Lord Christ. The Sermon The Nicene Creed After the sermon, silence. All stand, as able. Fr. Sammy Wood A We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. 8

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. Please kneel, as able. Prayers of the People Form I, BCP, p. 383 L With all our heart and with all our mind, let us pray to the Lord, saying, Lord, have mercy. In the Anglican Cycle of Prayer, we pray for The Church in Bermuda. In the Episcopal Church of South Sudan, we pray for the diocese of Terekeka. In our own diocese, we pray for Church of Our Savior, Gallatin. We pray for Holly Edwards and Salama Urban Ministries, New Life Restoration Ministry in Kenya, and the Powells providing pastoral care for missionaries in Africa and Europe. Fill the vergers of St Bartholomew's Church with your grace, that they may fulfill the duties and enjoy the privileges of our spiritual home, let us pray to the Lord. P Lord, have mercy. L For Justin, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Michael, the Presiding Bishop, John, our bishop, and for all clergy and people, let us pray to the Lord. P Lord, have mercy. L For the leaders of the nations, and for all in authority, including Donald our President, Bill our Governor, Mayor David of Nashville, all legislators and the judiciary, especially Jane, let us pray to the Lord. P Lord, have mercy. L For this city, for every city and community, and for those who live in them, let us pray to the Lord. P Lord, have mercy. L For the good earth which God has given us, and for the wisdom and will to conserve it, let us pray to the Lord. P Lord, have mercy. L For the aged and infirm, for the widowed and orphans, for the sick and the suffering, let us pray to the Lord. P Lord, have mercy. L For the poor and the oppressed, for the unemployed and the destitute, for prisoners 9

and captives, and for all who remember and care for them, let us pray to the Lord. P Lord, have mercy. L For all who have died in the hope of the resurrection, and for all the departed, let us pray to the Lord. P Lord, have mercy. L For deliverance from all danger, violence, oppression, and degradation, let us pray to the Lord. P Lord, have mercy. L That we may end our lives in faith and hope, without suffering and without reproach, let us pray to the Lord. P Lord, have mercy. L In the communion of Bartholomew and of all the saints, let us commend ourselves, and one another, and all our life, to Christ our God. P To you, O Lord our God. Concluding Collect Invitation to Confession C Let us confess our sins against God and our neighbor. A Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen. The Absolution The Peace All stand, as able. C The peace of the Lord be always with you. P And also with you. The Offertory Come, Ye Thankful People, Come vs. 1-2, 4 Hymn #290 1. Come, ye thankful people, come, raise the song of harvest-home: All is safely gathered in, ere the winter storms begin; God, our Maker, doth provide for our wants to be supplied; Come to God s own temple, come, raise the song of harvest-home. 10

2. All the world is God s own field, fruit unto his praise to yield; Wheat and tares together sown, unto joy or sorrow grown: First the blade, and then the ear, then the full corn shall appear: Grant, O harvest Lord, that we wholesome grain and pure may be. 4. Even so, Lord, quickly come to thy final harvest-home; Gather thou thy people in, free from sorrow, free from sin; There, for ever purified, in thy presence to abide; Come, with all thine angels, come, raise the glorious harvest-home. Please stand, as able, as the offering is brought to the altar. The Presentation Hymn Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow 11

The Holy Communion The Great Thanksgiving Eucharistic Prayer A, BCP, p. 361 C It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. For you are the source of light and life; you made us in your image, and called us to new life in Jesus Christ our Lord. Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name: 12

Please kneel, as able. C Holy and gracious Father: In your infinite love you made us for yourself; and, when we had fallen into sin and become subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent Jesus Christ, your only and eternal Son, to share our human nature, to live and die as one of us, to reconcile us to you, the God and Father of all. He stretched out his arms upon the cross, and offered himself in obedience to your will, a perfect sacrifice for the whole world. On the night he was handed over to suffering and death, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said, "Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me." Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith: C We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, O Father, in this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving. Recalling his death, resurrection, and ascension, we offer you these gifts. Sanctify them by your Holy Spirit to be for your people the Body and Blood of your Son, the holy food and drink of new and unending life in him. Sanctify us also that we may faithfully receive this holy Sacrament, and serve you in unity, constancy, and peace; and at the last day bring us with all your saints into the joy of your eternal kingdom. All this we ask through your Son Jesus Christ. By him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit all honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and forever, 13

C And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say, 14

The Breaking of the Bread The Priest breaks the consecrated Bread. C Alleluia. Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us; P Therefore let us keep the feast. Alleluia. C The Gifts of God for the People of God. Take them in remembrance that Christ died for you, and feed on him in your hearts by faith, with thanksgiving. Communion Music Everyone is invited to sing during communion. In the Lord, I'll Be Ever Thankful 15

Beneath the Cross 16

There Is a Hope Please stand, as able, for the final Communion song. 17

Grace C Let us pray. A Eternal God, heavenly Father, you have graciously accepted us as living members of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ, and you have fed us with spiritual food in the Sacrament of his Body and Blood. Send us now into the world in peace, and grant us strength and courage to love and serve you with gladness and singleness of heart; through Christ our Lord. Amen. The Blessing Recessional Now Thank We All Our God Hymn #397 1. Now thank we all our God, with heart, and hands, and voices, Who wondrous things hath done, in whom his world rejoices; Who from our mother s arms hath blessed us on our way With countless gifts of love, and still is ours today. 18

2. O may this bounteous God through all our life be near us! With ever-joyful hearts and blessed peace to cheer us; And keep us in his grace, and guide us when perplexed, And free us from all ills in this world and the next. 3. All praise and thanks to God the Father now be given, The Son, and him who reigns with them in highest heaven, Eternal, Triune God, whom earth and heaven adore; For thus it was, is now, and shall be, evermore. l Let us go forth in the name of Christ. P Thanks be to God. Postlude Now Thank We All arr. Burkhardt Parents, please return crayons to the narthex. Thanks! The altar flowers are given by John & Kathy Leo in honor of their 50th wedding anniversary. 19
