RESURRECTIONAL APOLYTIKION IN TONE ONE While the stone was sealed by the Jews, and the soldiers were guarding Thy most pure body, Thou didst arise on the third day, O Savior, granting life to the world. For which cause the heavenly powers cried aloud unto Thee, O giver of life. Glory to Thy Resurrection, O Christ, glory to Thy kingdom, glory to Thy providence, O Thou Who alone art the lover of mankind. APOLYTIKION OF ST. PELAGIA THE RIGHTEOUS IN TONE EIGHT Through thee, the divine likeness was securely preserved, O mother Pelagia; for thou didst carry the cross and follow Christ. By example and precept thou didst teach us to ignore the body, because it is perishable, and to attend to the concerns of the undying soul. Therefore, doth thy soul rejoice with the angels. APOLYTIKION FOR ST. GEORGE THE GREAT-MARTYR (TONE TWO) Since thou art a liberator and deliverer of captives, a help and support of the poor and needy, a healing physician of the sick, a contender and fighter for kings, O great among Martyrs, the victoryclad George; intercede with Christ God for the salvation of our souls. KONTAKION FOR ORDINARY SUNDAYS IN TONE TWO O protection of Christians that cannot be put to shame, mediation unto the Creator most constant, O despise not the suppliant voices of those who have sinned; but be thou quick, O good one, to come unto our aid, who in faith cry unto thee: Hasten to intercession, and speed thou to make supplication, thou who dost ever protect, O Theotokos, them that honor thee. Holy Bread will be offered by: SKEE RIZK: IN MEMORY OF PETER RIZK AND TOM & REGINA JACOBS, AS WELL AS FOR THE HEALTH OF THE RIZK, FERRIS, SAMORE, AL-HANNA AND NASSER FAMILIES.
THE EPISTLE For the Eighteenth Sunday after Pentecost Let Thy mercy, O Lord, be upon us. Rejoice in the Lord, O ye righteous. The Reading from the Second Epistle of St. Paul to the Corinthians. (9:6-11) Brethren, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must do as he has made up his mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to provide you with every blessing in abundance, so that you may always have enough of everything and may provide in abundance for every good work. As it is written, He scatters abroad, he gives to the poor; his righteousness endures forever. He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your resources and increase the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way for great generosity, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God. THE GOSPEL For the Third Sunday of Luke The Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Luke. (7:11-16) At that time, Jesus went to a city called Nain, and many of His disciples and a great crowd went with Him. As He drew near to the gate of the city, behold, a man who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow; and a large crowd from the city was with her. And when the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her and said to her, Do not weep. And He came and touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. And Jesus said, Young man, I say to you, arise. And the dead man sat up, and began to speak. And Jesus gave him to his mother. Fear seized them all; and they glorified God, saying, A great prophet has arisen among us! and God has visited His people! DONATIONS Congratulations Fr. & Khr. Please keep baby Aidan, Kh. Carol, and Fr. Joseph in your prayers! Thought for the Day Like a flower, a parish comes to be what it is through many stages and is not easy to keep healthy. Flowers need sun and rain, the right balance of fertilizers, and occasionally pesticides. What is true of plants is true of parishes, if they do not continue to constantly grow, they quickly die. New stems must come forth from the old ones, so that growth begets growth, and the plants build upon their previous seasons." -- His Eminence, Metropolitan JOSEPH" With great sadness, St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church of El Paso announces that His Grace Bishop Antoun (Khouri) fell asleep in the Lord earlier this week in Miami, Florida. This is the 50th year for this great community event! Those of you who have helped in the past know what a great event this is as well as much fun to help with. Seeing the joy on the Seniors faces and knowing we are helping them with their basic needs through the gift bag of food that we give them make this event special for me and I hope for you. My dear Father Dale Nasser, Sr. and Godfather Peter Rizk started this event many years ago & we honor their loving memory by continuing to help those in need, especially during the season of giving each year. We are asking all parishioners to participate any way they can in this very worthwhile community event. While each year we lose some sponsors, we also work to gain new sponsors. However, the support of our parishioners is ALWAYS needed and much appreciated. Please donate whatever you can and know all donations will be put to good use for this great event. We would appreciate donations earmarked Senior Citizens Dinner by Sunday, Nov. 25. If you have any questions, please call Deanna Nasser at 204-4245. Thank you much for your support and God bless you all
