1 Fresh Matthew 9:18-19 18 While he was saying this, a synagogue leader came and knelt before him and said, My daughter has just died. But come and put your hand on her, and she will live. 19 Jesus got up and went with him, and so did his disciples. Mark 5:24b-34 24 A large crowd followed and pressed around him. 25 And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. 26 She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. 27 When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, 28 because she thought, If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed. 29 Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering. 30 At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, Who touched my clothes? 31 You see the people crowding against you, his disciples answered, and yet you can ask, Who touched me? 32 But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. 33 Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth. 34 He said to her, Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering. 35 While Jesus was still speaking, some people came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. Your daughter is dead, they said. Why bother the teacher anymore? 36 Overhearing what they said, Jesus told him, Don t be afraid; just believe. 37 He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James and John the brother of James. 38 When they came to the home of the synagogue leader, Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly. 39 He went in and said to them, Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep. 40 But they laughed at him. After he put them all out, he took the child s father and mother and the disciples who were with him, and went in where the child was. 41 He took her by the hand and said to her, Talitha koum! (which means Little girl, I say to you, get up! ). 42 Immediately the girl stood up and began to walk around (she was twelve years old). At this they were completely astonished. I. 2. His daughter was on her death s bed. a. If you have ever had a child in bad shape physically you can understand his pain. b. Jarius is desperate for help. c. So are he has done all that he knows to do. d. Then he hears Jesus is close by. e. Runs across town and find him. f. Interrupts everything to get the attention of Jesus. B. Jesus responds. 1. He gets up and goes with Jairus. 2. Walks with him. C. Have you ever had one of those times where you didn t know what you were going to do? 1. It was overwhelming. 2. It was difficult. 3. Scary 4. A full assault. D. You can feel alone, by yourself, I want you to know that is NOT TRUE! Isaiah 41:10 Don t be afraid, for I am with you. Don t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand. (NLT) Matthew 28:20 And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age. (ESV) NLT says Be sure of this E. Unpack 1. Behold. a. Know this. b. Be in awe of this. c. Be amazed at this. 2. Be sure of this. a. It is a definite. b. It is a for sure thing. c. There is no doubt. 2
3 1. Just like Jesus went with Jairus - HE is here with you. 2. He is with you -- all you need to do is ask him. Matthew 1:23 Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel (which means, God with us). 1. God is compassionate and responds to his children. 2. He cares for all of our needs. 3. He is here to Assure and comfort you with the promise of HIS presence. 4. Comfort you in your need. 5. Come meet all of our needs. I. I have confidence knowing God is with me. II. I have confidence knowing God is always available for me. Matthew 9:21 She said to herself, If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed. A. Unpack 1. Woman. 2. Sick for 12 years. 3. Time after time, day after day, appointment after appointment. 4. She saw every doctor she could find. 5. Save her money and go to the next one hoping to get help. 6. Nothing worked. 7. She was now broke, still sick and instead of getting better she was getting worse. 8. Long term pain or long term illness has a way of wearing you out. 9. That was her situation. B. She heard about Jesus. 1. Don t know how she heard. 2. She knew he was in town. 3. Saw the crowd. a. She was not deterred by the crowd.
4 b. She was not deterred by the difficulty. c. I know Jesus is in the middle of that crowd. d. I m going to get to him. e. She got as far as she could by working and pushing her way through. C. She got on her knees and began to crawl --- Mob scene. 1. We know what she was thinking because she told her testimony later. 2. If I can just touch the bottom of his robe. 3. If I can just touch his cloak. 4. Kicked, stepped on, breathing in dust, nasty first century sandal feet in her face. 5. The bottom of his robe The tassels of his robe. You will reach out and grab hold of God in direct proportion to your desperation and determination to get him. He as available to everyone but only one lady was healed. D. Jesus was available to everyone who wanted to get to him. 1. This woman was determined. 2. This woman was confident that she just needed to get to him. E. She knew Jesus was available for her. Jesus is always available to us. Accessible to us in our need. My prayer for you today Make yourself known to us. Let us see you. Help us to find you in our situation. Strengthen us to not get discouraged as we pursue you. John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only son that whoever believes in him Matthew 11:28 Then Jesus said, Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. (NLT) 1. Jesus is available to you today. 2. Have confidence He is available.
5 3. He is not too busy --- pre-occupied. 4. He is not too caught up helping Florida learn how to count voting ballots. 5. He is not too anything. 6. He is simply available. I. I have confidence knowing God is with me. II. I have confidence knowing God is always available for me. III. I have confidence God responds to my faith. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering. A. Unpack 1. Tell the story. 2. She touches the bottom of his robe. 3. Healing power comes out of Jesus and he feels it. 4. Jesus felt the result of this woman exercising her faith. 5. She had faith but she had to exercise her faith. 6. When she did it drew power out of Jesus. 7. Jesus stops the crowd. a. Who touched me. b. The disciples thought he was talking to them. c. They re kinda confused. d. None of us Jesus. e. Wait a minute what do you mean who touched you. f.. Like everyone is touching you Jesus. g. Look at this mob all around you. Jesus that s not what I mean. Someone touched me with their FAITH! 8. It was so powerful the MAN Jesus felt it. 9. Who was it? And He keeps looking around the crowd.
6 10. The woman finally speaks up. a. She is fearful. b. It was me. c. She knew what had happened to her. d. Jesus felt power go out of him and the woman felt something change in her body. e. She throws herself at Jesus feet trembling with fear tell Jesus the whole story. B. Jesus says something powerful. 1. Daughter Your faith has healed you. Your faith has healed you -- What does that mean? 2. Now we know that it was Jesus who healed her. 3. But there were also a lot of other people around Jesus but none of them had a story like hers. 4. This is the only one who was healed. 5. And it was with her faith that made it possible. Illustration There was power connected to the light switch and when she exercised her faith it was what flipped the switch. C. Faith is the currency of heaven. 1. Faith is the substance of thing hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. 2. It is God s Kingdom --- & 3. Faith is the currency in his kingdom that gets things done. 4. Faith is the substance by which supernatural transactions occur. Romans 12:3 For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. D. You have a measure of faith that has been given to you. 1. But you must exercise that faith for it to grow. Illustration Compare faith to physical strength, speed or endurance.
7 Some people are naturally stronger, faster or have the ability to go further. That s great but now put blood, sweat and tears into it and see what happens. When faith is exercised it grows. Every time. E. Back to the story. Mark 5:36 Don t be afraid; just believe. F. Fear is one of the biggest weapons to try to stop you from exercising your faith. G. Unpack. 1. Jesus is standing there on the heels of this great healing. 2. He Jairus I m sorry to tell you but your daughter is dead Don t bother Jesus anymore and fear grips him. H. Jesus addresses two groups of people. 1. First he looks right at Jairus. 2. Jairus look at me. 3. Do not be afraid! a. I know what they just said. b. I heard it too. c. I realize what is happening. d. I m standing right here with you and I realize what is happening. e. Look at me DON T BE AFRAID! Just Believe! I. Fear and faith don t go well together. J. Faith is your biggest weapon against fear. K. Back to the story.. 1. She is not dead she is only asleep. 2. I mean she might be dead but she is not really dead. 3. Her heart may have stopped beating but that s only temporary. L. They laughed at Jesus. M. He drove them out! Jesus is working against two things. 1. Fear 2. Unbelief.

The child is not dead but asleep. 40 But they laughed at him. At this they were completely astonished. 56 Her parents were astonished, but he ordered them not to tell anyone what had happened. 8 God wants to raise up dead areas of your life!
