DMD (NK) Hosnia Hashem and a number of Group Managers, TLs and local media were also in attendance. Al-Rushaid maintained that this year s decorations were distinguished by lighted structures which symbolized the history of Kuwait, such as a traditional tent, the Old Kuwait Wall, the Seif Palace, Kuwait Towers, the Liberation Tower and a number of structures that embodied the past and present in the State of Kuwait. During the event, Al-Rushaid invited citizens and expatriates to visit Ahmadi with their families to enjoy the city s attractive atmosphere. He also expressed his greetings and appreciation to the wise Kuwaiti leadership and the honorable people of Kuwait on the occasion of the National and Liberation Day celebrations. On her side, DMD (NK) and Ag. DMD (A&F) Hosnia Hashem said that the national celebrations were a deep-rooted tradition observed by KOC and that the Company has been engaged with decorating the city for many years as part of its social responsibilities, and that this year s decorations reflected a traditional aspect of the State of Kuwait s history. Corporate Services Group Manager Esmaeil Ali Ahmad added that the preparations for these occasions begin early every year by settingup concepts and preparing relevant contracts before adopting the needed specifications in order to be ready for Kuwait s most important national celebrations. 3 Achievement KOC wins two awards in an energy forum in Abu Dhabi 5

Al-Rushaid: KOC Has Raised Bars Thanks To Your Efforts THE 6TH Open Day For The Appointed By Circulars KOC organised the 6th Open Day for those who were appointed by circulars, at the Company s Spring Camp in Al-Zor zone. This year s event was distinguished by the participation of writer and poet Badr Bouresli, renowned sports commentator Khaled Al-Harban and dietician Adila Al-Sharhan. At the outset of the event, C&MD Sami Al-Rushaid enumerated the achievements of the Company s Directorates, Groups and Teams, thanked employees for the genuine efforts they contributed to the progress of the Company and urged them to continue striving for further advancement and success. As Al-Rushaid honored the newly appointed by circulars, sporting and entertainment activities took place. But before awarding prizes to winners, he thanked North Kuwait employees who were not able to make it because of attempts under way to control the liking incident. The Black & White section, presented by poet Badr Bouresli, showed Kuwait s ancient neighborhoods and old video footage. The act was followed by questions addressed to competitors in an intimate atmosphere recalling the old sweet and bitter days. Chef Adila Al-Sharhan then prepared an Italian dish directly on the stage. This was followed by a draw of prizes for the attendants of the Open Day. The Nabeek Tfooz (We Want You To Win) section, presented by veteran commentator Khaled Al-Harban, was also full of suspense and expectation with questions related to old video footage from the 70ies, dating back to the era of the giants of football. On the conclusion of the Open Day, a draw for the Grand Prix resulted in the winning of a modern car by Haitham Al-Mayyan. 2

KOC Takes Part in ICEEN 2013 in Singapore Technical Expertise Team & Power Management Present Technical Paper KOC recently took part in the International Conference for Electrical Energy and Networks in Singapore on January 19th and 20th. A technical paper, Techno-Economic Evaluation of Power Factor Improvement Scheme for 11KV 40kA, 72 MW Main Bulk Intake Substation was presented by Fakher Al-Zalzalah (TPL Specialist, Technical Expertise Team) and Y.V.Sridhar (TPL Specialist - Power Management Team). The technical paper contained information regarding the main bulk intake substation to improve the power factor to.95 at the source end and to improve the efficiency of the electrical network associated with the substation. At the outset of the presentation, Al-Zalzalah delivered an introductory talk on KPC and KOC and briefed the audience on information regarding overall electrical network distribution. Y.V.Sridhar presented the issues pertaining to the load profile, harmonics and economic aspects of the various studied models. The presentation was well-received and queries from participating delegates were answered by the representatives of KOC. The objective of ICEEN 2013 is to provide the platform for researchers, engineers and academicians as well as industrial professionals from all over the world to present their research and study results and development activities in Electrical Energy and Networks. The conference provided opportunities for the delegates to exchange new ideas and application experiences for future collaboration. KOC to Organize 5th Town Hall Meeting, Exhibition with Contractors KOC is due to organize its 5th Town Hall Meeting & Exhibition with Contractors under the patronage of C&MD Sami Al-Rushaid on March 5-7, 2013 at Hall 8 of the Kuwait International Fairgrounds in Mishref. The three-day conference will run from 9 am to 3 pm and is intended to shed light on the strategic goals of the Company, its future plans and the cuttingedge technologies in the Oil & Gas industry. Ag. TL Contracts II, Musaed Al-Rasheed, told Energy that this year s event encompasses 100 carefully-selected local and international companies, in addition to GCC companies that were invited to attend and participate in the event, during which 20 specialized working papers will be presented by local and world experts on the latest technologies in the Oil & Gas domain. Al-Rasheed maintained that a number of embassies, trade missions and universities are to partake in the exhibition, with KOC hosting the largest pavilion comprising 20 main groups in charge of conducting presentations and answering the queries raised by contractors on the Company s biddings and future projects. He underscored that one of the main characteristics of the event will be observing full transparency during their direct dialogue with the company s higher management. 3

KOC Hosts Away Day for Diplomatic Corps Hashem: We Are Proud Of Our Interaction, Your Role KOC recently organized an Away Day at the Company s Spring Camp for the members of the Diplomatic Corps and their families who are stationed in Kuwait. The event, which is an annual tradition, was held under the auspices of DMD (NK) and Ag. DMD (A&F) Hosnia Hashem. Kuwait Oil Company organizes this annual tradition as a symbolic gesture of our appreciation to you and our eagerness to further develop the strong friendships that link us all together, she said in her welcoming speech. We, at KOC, are extremely proud of this magnificent interaction with you, a fact that originates from our consideration towards the outstanding role that you undertake, in order to foster and further enhance relations between your respective countries and ours, Kuwait. We share with you this eagerness and look forward to develop it by every possible means, she added. While she expressed great pleasure over the presence of diplomats families at the camp, Hashem underlined that KOC accords a great deal of importance to shouldering its responsibilities towards society and sharing different occasions and activities with citizens, making it part of its traditions since it was established. She also expressed KOC s gratitude and appreciation towards the facilities that embassies accord to Company employees, especially those related to consular matters and the issuance of visas, a fact that allows employees to accomplish their missions in a more efficient way. The Away Day program was comprised of entertainment activities, competitions and prizes, honoring embassies and participants, a magic show and folkloric shows. 4

KOC Wins Two Awards at MEALF Event hosted by Abu Dhabi KOC was awarded two prizes during the recognition ceremony held to conclude the 7th edition of The Middle East Artificial Lift Forum (MEALF) which was hosted by the United Arab Emirates last week. The 7th Edition of MEALF concluded with a special recognition ceremony during which two honorary awards were given out to the Best Speaker which went to KOC s Nora Al-Maqseed, Petroleum Engineer I (WS), Artificial Lift Team, as well as the Best Exhibition Stand which went to KOC. MEALF and the accompanying exhibition was held at the Emirates Palace Hotel under the patronage of 1st VP of the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry Khalfan Saeed Al-Kaabi, in the presence of a large number of officials, diplomats, and oil company representatives from all over the world. The Steering and Technical Committee of MEALF 2013 announced that the biennial energy forum was a vast regional success with over 518 speakers, delegates and exhibitors from major power companies from public and private sectors all over the world. It is worth mentioning that MEALF 2013 was sponsored by leading companies, including the platinum sponsor Kuwait Oil Company. Quality Assurance Team Holds Workshop for Internal Auditors Workshop is 10th of its kind since start of project The Quality Assurance Team, under TL Fahad Al-Sabah, recently held the ISO 9001 Internal Audit Workshop for Cycle IV. This is the tenth workshop of its kind to take place since the start of the project. The workshop provides trained internal auditors with a refresher on how to prepare and execute an audit, gives the experienced auditors an opportunity to share their experiences and creates an opportunity for efficiently assigning auditors to the upcoming audits. There were 35 participants from all directorates who took part. With 39 internal audits scheduled between January 30th and February 20th, some volunteered to conduct two audits. TL (QA) Fahad Al-Sabah welcomed the auditors and upheld the importance of their role. Internal audits are a vital component of ISO 9001 and without them KOC would lose its certifications. GEC organized and ran the workshop with coordination from Quality Assurance. The Cycle V Internal Audit Training Course and Auditor Workshop is planned for October. 5

EO & MO Groups Hold Waste Management Awareness Campaign The HSE (EO&MO) Team recently organized a waste management awareness campaign for the Export Operations Group and Marine Operations Group that addressed the various aspects of operational waste management at KOC. It also provided insights on the role of Tetra Tech as a service contractor, and the means for utilizing its services. Mohammed Al-Basry, Team Leader HSE (EO&MO) addressed the employees at Ameera Court, Ahmadi and Samirah Haider, Senior Environment Engineer, addressed the gathering at the Small Boat Harbor, Mina Al-Ahmadi. The campaign focused on topics relevant to waste management, such as waste classification (hazardous/non-hazardous), segregation of waste, appropriate waste-bin use, waste removal request email, waste manifest/ loading note, waste separation, waste recycle through K-EPA approved Recycler, waste treatment, and final disposal outside KOC to K-EPA approved facilities/locations. This KOC waste management service is being utilized for handling of routine and non-routine operational waste. Waste management posters and fliers were distributed to employees to display at their respective assets in order to increase the awareness among the KOC and Contractor employees. All queries raised by attendees were addressed during this campaign. KOC Offers Life-Saving Training to Al-Nuzha Teachers Sponsored by Planning Team (WK) The West Kuwait Directorate, represented by the Planning Team, recently sponsored a specialized course for Al-Nuzha Kindergarten teachers within the framework of The National Project for Life-Saving Training, organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and the American Heart Association. The event took place on February 10-11, 2013. The initiative falls within the KOC commitment to shoulder its social responsibilities and consolidate its goals. The Company was represented by Senior Planner Asmaa Al-Sabbri and Planning Engineer Husain Atash. Both conducted presentations about the role of KOC towards the society and honored those who took part in the course. Al-Nuzha Kindergarten Directress, Nadia Al-Muzn, thanked KOC for sponsoring the course and underscored the role that the Company plays in serving the society s causes and aspirations. 6
