Moses s wish that ends the first reading Would that the LORD might bestow his spirit on them all! does not go unfulfilled (Numbers 11:29). The Lord has indeed bestowed the Holy Spirit on us all. In baptism we all received exactly what Moses hoped for. We all have the ability to prophesy to speak the word of God to those we encounter. From time to time we need to be reminded of that gift and that duty. We are obligated by the presence of the Holy Spirit within us to preach hope to the hopeless and conversion to those whose hearts are in the wrong place. Question of the Week?? How do I put too much faith in those impermanent things that bring me wealth and comfort? How can I express the Spirit who I received in baptism to others? OCTOBER COUNT For many years, our Diocese has involved itself in a common pastoral practice across the United States known as the October Count. The month of October is selected because statistics indicate that it represents the best month to count individuals who attend each weekend Mass at a parish for that month. At each Mass during the month of October the ushers will be counting and recording the number of people attending and at the end of the month this information will be sent to the Diocese. This is an excellent tool for pastoral planning for our parishes throughout the Diocese. REST IN PEACE Jimmy Zak, nephew of Robert Serbin, made his final earthly response to God when he passed to his eternal reward on September 16 th. What is a Mission: Are you so involved in scurrying around with business, children, family, social activities that you have little time for quiet contemplation with God? A Mission is a time of special grace when God calls us into a deeper relationship with Him, a time for personal growth, a time to listen to God, a time of spiritual refreshment and invigoration. Who is a Mission for? All ages and for any stage in life-married, single, divorced, separated, widow, etc. We particularly invite those who want to know more about the church today and how it can take an active role in the everyday experiences of work, leisure, family and politics. What form will this Mission take? Each evening there will be a special parish mass and homily designated to increase our spirituality. A social will follow in the hall to enhance our feeling of parish community. The mission priest will be available for informal chats, questions, & answers at the hall during the social. Babysitting will be available so parents can have time for spiritual growth. * Please sign up in the back of church this week during mass.
