The Prelude During this time, be prayerful and reverent in preparation for the worship of our holy God in His sanctuary. (Please silence all phones and electronic devices.) The Call to Worship from Isaiah 25 Leader: O LORD, you are my God; I will exalt you; I will praise your name, for you have done wonderful things, plans formed of old, faithful and sure. On this mountain the LORD of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of rich food, a feast of wellaged wine, of rich food full of marrow, of aged wine well refined. He will swallow up death forever; and the Lord God will wipe away tears from all faces, and the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the LORD has spoken. It will be said on that day, Behold, this is our God; we have waited for him, that he might save us. This is the LORD; we have waited for him; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation. Please stand, as able! 3

The Prayer of Invocation The Invitation to Confession Isaiah 1:18 Leader: Come now, let us reason together, says the LORD: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.! 5
The Corporate Confession of Sin from Prone to Wander Unison: Holy God, we are people who cannot wash ourselves or make ourselves clean. Even as your children, we love evil and resist what you have said is good. Father, forgive us. Redeeming God, we praise you that you have washed us clean in the blood of your Son. You placed all our evil on him so that it could be removed from your sight forever. We crucified your precious Son, and instead of hating us, you have given us his perfect goodness and welcomed us to your feast. We are left undone by your extravagant love and complete salvation. We ask you to wash our minds and hearts clean, moment by moment, and help us to love extravagantly, as we have been loved by you. Amen. The Private Confession of Sin The Assurance of Pardon Titus 3:3-7 Leader: For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another. But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.! 6

The Affirmation of Faith Leader: O Christian, what do you confess? The Word Made Flesh Unison: We confess the mystery and wonder of God made flesh and rejoice in our great salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord. With the Father and the Holy Spirit, the Son created all things, sustains all things, and makes all things new. Truly God, He became truly man, two natures in one person. He was born of the Virgin Mary and lived among us. Crucified, dead, and buried, He rose on the third day, ascended to heaven, and will come again in glory and judgment. For us, He kept the Law, atoned for sin, and satisfied God s wrath. He took our filthy rags and gave us His righteous robe. He is our Prophet, Priest, and King, building His church, interceding for us, and reigning over all things. Jesus Christ is Lord; we praise His holy Name forever. Amen. The Prayers of the People God calls us to be a praying people. Let us join in prayer, offering our praise, thanksgiving, and intercession to God. The Lord s Prayer Unison: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. The Offertory Our offering is an act of worship in which we express our gratitude and reliance on God. For those of you who are guests with us today, giving is not obligatory. We are eager to share with you more about our church and its ministry and to invite you to participate with us as you are called by God. If you have filled out a visitor s card, please place it in the plate as it is passed.! 8
The Doxology The Prayer of Dedication This prayer acknowledges that God is the giver of all good gifts and that money itself cannot accomplish good in the world without God s blessing.! 9
The Reading of Scripture Philippians 4:2-3, 21-23 English Standard Version [2] I entreat Euodia and I entreat Syntyche to agree in the Lord. [3] Yes, I ask you also, true companion, help these women, who have labored side by side with me in the gospel together with Clement and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the book of life. [21] Greet every saint in Christ Jesus. The brothers who are with me greet you. [22] All the saints greet you, especially those of Caesar's household. [23] The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. The Sermon Rev. Brad DeVries Family Restoration! 10
Discussion and Application 1. What terms does Paul use when speaking to and about Euodia and Syntyche? How would you imagine that Paul felt about this situation in Philippi? 2. Consider some conflicts you have witnessed among Christians. How were these conflicts handled well, or how were they conducted poorly? How did this conflict effect the church and its witness to the world? 3. Are you currently in conflict with anyone in the church? Do you know others who are? What can you do to help them agree in the Lord? 4. Those who rest upon Christ by faith have their names written in the book of life. What bearing does that have on disagreements and squabbles in your family? In the family of God?! 11
