Term 2 Issue 1-01 MAY 2014 Vision Through the teaching of God s Word we will bring people to Christ and help them to grow in him. Mathew 28:19-20 Contents - School Attendance 2015 - School Fees - Dates to Remember - Class Assemblies - Traffic Flow / Car Park - Spanish Classes - Winter Uniforms From the Principal s Desk A Christian Community Must Reflect the Nature of God PASTORAL CONCERN There are many ideas as to what is the central task of teaching, particularly teaching in a Christian school. I want to suggest that as Christian teachers we have a pastoral concern for the students in our class and that our task is to care for them as individuals and to help them live lives worthy of the calling received (Ephesians 4:1). We need to understand what the apostle Paul meant by the calling we have received. In the earlier part of his letter to the Ephesians he points out the glorious inheritance that we have in Jesus Christ. DISCIPLING THE TASK OF TEACHING He tells us that we were chosen in Christ to be holy and blameless and to be adopted as sons (Ephesians 1:4-5). God has a plan, developed before the foundation of the earth, for Him to have a holy, pure and blameless people, children of God, without fault shining like stars in a crooked and depraved generation (Philippians 2: 13-16). If we forget this and assume our job is to teach the curriculum in a good and wholesome environment, we have missed the real point of why God has placed us in a Christian school. It is clearly not easy to undertake such a task, but if the Christian school does not undertake it, who will? The Church has been given the task of going into all the world and preaching the Gospel and teaching the converts to obey all that Christ has commanded (Matthew 28:19-20). In a pluralistic society such as ours where Christian values are derided, where tolerance and political correctness seems to be the only significant values taught, and where these views are powerfully supported by the media, the task of the Church in disciplining its students is a difficult, almost impossible task. I believe God has raised up Christian schools for this very purpose. If this is the case it is important that the school with determination and careful planning, attempts to undertake the task of helping children lead lives worthy of the calling, to be the people of God in this dark and depraved world.

EMMANUEL CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY SCHOOL SCHOOL BOARD The Board s primary task is to seek Godly wisdom and to act on behalf of those served by the school to achieve the following : Clearly articulate the vision and the aims of the school. WE RE TAKING IT IN OUR STRIDE Well it s that time of year again when our school seriously starts talking about walking! Walk Safely to School Day asks that we all consider our transport habits and try to incorporate more walking as part of a healthy, active way to get around. And although walking all the way to school isn t realistic for many of us, it s quite easy to figure out how you can build a walk into your family s daily routine. You can teach your child the healthy habit of walking more by : - Walking with them the whole way to school - If they get the bus or train, walk past your usual stop and get on at the next stop - If you have to drive, park the car a few blocks away from the school and walk the rest of the way Regular exercise like walking with your child not only helps them (and you!) beat chronic problems kike obesity, heart disease, behavioural and mental health issues and diabetes. It also gives you a great opportunity to teach your child safe ways to have around roads and traffic. Remember, Active Kids and Healthy Kids so get planning your own Walk Safely to School Day journey for Friday 23 may 2014. Students, Parents, Care-givers and Grandparents who walk to school on this day are invited to join us for a FREE BREAKFAST AT SCHOOL from 7.30am - 8.30am.

A VISIT FROM THE MOUNTED POLICE

A VISIT FROM THE MOUNTED POLICE Written by Year 2 O n Wednesday, two police officers and two horses came to Emmanuel to see the year ones and twos, which is us. We went outside and sat on the grass. One of the horses was named Barney, who was 16, and the other was BJ and he was 10. Then we asked them some questions and they told us that the horses eat apples, carrots and hay. They showed us how they make the horses turn, go backwards, forwards and sideways. After that we got into two lines and we all had a turn of patting the horses. After that we turned around and sat down on the grass to take a photo. Finally we went back to class. I really really liked it. Mackenzie My favourite bit was when we got to pat the horses because they were fluffy. --Andrew I liked patting the horses. They were soft. Marol It was cool because we got to touch the horses. I liked it because horses are my favourite animal. Hedessa It was amazing. Majok My favourite part was when we got to pat the horses because I had never seen a horse before. Abbey I liked it when I touched the horses because BJ smelled me! Tha Daniel
