Page Two September 30, 2018 The R.C.I.A. These four letters stand for the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. It is a faith journey for adults desiring to become full members of the Catholic Church. Through a gradual process of prayer, faith sharing, study, and rituals, the R.C.I.A. process prepares people for full initiation within the Catholic Church through the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and/or Eucharist. The R.C.I.A. process is designed especially for: Adults never baptized who might desire to become a Catholic. Adults baptized in another Christian church who might desire to become a Catholic. Adults baptized Catholic who have not received the sacraments of Eucharist and/or Confirmation. Please note that one of the qualifications to be a baptismal godparent or Confirmation sponsor is that he/she is a fully initiated Catholic, i.e., the person has received the Sacraments of Initiation of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist. As we welcome the autumn months, may the earlier setting of the sun remind us to take time to rest. May the brilliant colors of the leaves remind us of the wonder of your creation. May the steam of our breath in the cool air remind us that it is you who give us the breath of life. May the harvest from the fields remind us of the abundance we have been given and bounty we are to share with others. May the dying of summer s spirit remind us of your great promise that death is temporary and life is eternal. We praise you for your goodness forever and ever. Amen. Sacrifice is not a word that many people to hear. We think it means that we must give up something that we want. However, the literal meaning of sacrifice is to make holy, from the words sacer = sacred and facere = to make. In other words, we make our lives holy by sharing our gifts in the service of God. Hosting Our Lady of Fatima Pilgrim Statue St. Elizabeth's Church in Wyckoff has 5 traveling statues of Our Lady of Fatima. For over 20 years, Our Blessed Mother's statues have been traveling from home to home...visiting with families. Although this ministry began with a single statue, it has grown to 5 statues. Hosting families have found strength and comfort through Our Lady s presence. As you may know, Our Lady of Fatima asked Lucia, Jacinta, and Francisco to pray the Rosary daily, and to do penance for the salvation of souls. And today, to you and me, Our Lady's message is the same. And so, while the Blessed Mother is in your home, we ask that you try to pray the Holy Rosary (or other devotional prayers to Our Lady) and to perform other tokens of love for the salvation of souls. We are beginning to schedule families to host Our Lady for 2019. Several parishioners from MBS currently participate in this devotion and host Our Lady in their homes. If you are not currently a host and would like to have Our Lady of Fatima Pilgrim Statue visit your home in 2019, please contact Kathy Marsico on 201-485-7052 or email at kemarsico@gmail.com. Eucharistic Adoration First Friday, October 5 th and First Saturday, October 6 th You might wonder how to best spend your time with Jesus in Adoration. One of the best aspects of Eucharistic Adoration is this: how you spend your time with Jesus is entirely up to you. You can pray the Holy Rosary, pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet, meditate on the Stations of the Cross, read your Bible, or do some other spiritual reading. You are there to visit with your friend, Jesus. Talk with Him; tell Him your problems, your needs or your concerns. Tell Him about your joys, too. Chances are He doesn't hear about those very often! But most important: stop and listen, let Jesus do some of the talking. He's been waiting for a chance to visit with you, but your life is so busy with work, family and school, your line is always busy. Jesus can't get through to you. It's time to give yourself a break. Take a little time out for a private visit with your best friend, Jesus. The whole purpose of our human existence is to live forever with the Blessed Trinity in heaven, to enjoy forever the victory of Jesus over sin and death. We get a foretaste of that eternal happiness and peace when we visit and adore Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. Please consider signing up for a specific hour of Adoration on First Friday, October 5 th (10am to 4pm) and/or on First Saturday, October 6 th (9:30am to 4:30pm). To do so, please sign-up in the narthex.
