JUNE 4-5, 2016 THE PSTOR S CORNER The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus The month of June is dedicated to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. n ct of Consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is often said on or around the solemnity of the Sacred Heart, which is on June 3 this year. In this act of consecration, we unite ourselves fully to the heart of Christ, asking Jesus to purify our wills so that everything we do may be in line with His will and, if we fall, that His love and mercy may shield us from the righteous judgment of God the Father. men? men! n CT of CONSECRTION to THE SCRED HERT I give myself and consecrate to the Sacred Heart of our Lord Jesus Christ my person and my life, my actions, pains, and sufferings, so that I may be unwilling to make use of any part of my being save to honor, love, and glorify the Sacred Heart. This is my unchanging purpose, namely, to be all His, and to do all things for the love of Him, at the same time renouncing with all my heart whatever is displeasing to Him. I therefore take Thee, O Sacred Heart, to be the only object of my love, the guardian of my life, my assurance of salvation, the remedy of my weakness and inconstancy, the atonement for all the faults of my life, and my sure refuge at the hour of death. Be then, O Heart of goodness, my justification before God Thy Father, and turn away from me the strokes of His righteous anger. O Heart of love, I put all my confidence in Thee for I fear everything from my own wickedness and frailty, but I hope for all things from Thy goodness and bounty. Do Thou consume in me all that can displease Thee or resist Thy holy will; let Thy pure love imprint Thee so deeply upon my heart, that I shall nevermore be able to forget Thee or to be separated from Thee; may I obtain from all Thy loving kindness the grace of having my name written in Thee, for in Thee I desire to place all my happiness and all my glory, living and dying in very bondage to Thee. men. THE R E DINGS for THIS WEEK 1 Kings 17:17-24 Psalm 30:2, 4-6, 11-13 Galatians 1:11-19 Luke 7:11-17 I assure you, brothers, the gospel I proclaimed to you is no mere human invention. I did not receive it from any man, nor was I schooled in it. Galatians 1:11-12 Unlike St. Paul, we have received the gospel from other men and women. Most of us have been schooled in it, possibly having gone to Catholic school eight, twelve, or more years. Like Paul, however, we must base our personal relationship with Jesus not on what others have said, but on who we say He is (Mt 16:15). We must not just know about Jesus; we must know Jesus. Many of our Catholic school graduates know hundreds of facts about Jesus. (nd it s good they do.) Nonetheless, those facts do not come alive until they know Jesus personally. We may know hundreds of things about a celebrity, politician, or superstar. Yet that completely differs from knowing them personally. famous evangelist once visited a church that was sick, had stopped breathing, and died (1 Kgs 17:7). He remarked: What this church needs is someone who has a first-hand experience of God. They were singing and praying from their prayer books, but not from their hearts or personal experience. The Lord has pity on the neediest of all, those who do not know Him personally. He wills to touch the coffins of their lives and bid them get up (Lk 7:14). SINT CECILI ROMN CTHOLIC PRISH CLO S ER L OOK T O U R FITH CTECHESIS (kat i-ke sis) n. What is Love? Love is the free self-giving of the heart. [2346] To have a heart full of love means to be so pleased with something that one emerges from oneself and devotes oneself to it. musician can devote himself to a masterpiece. kindergarten teacher can be there wholeheartedly for her charges. In every friendship there is love. The most beautiful form of love on earth, however, is the love between man and woman, in which two people give themselves to each other forever. ll human love is an image of divine love, in which all love is at home. Love is the inmost being of the Triune God. In God there is continual exchange and perpetual self-giving. Through the overflowing of divine love, we participate in the eternal love of God. The more a person loves, the more he resembles God. Love should influence the whole life of a person, but it is realized with particular depth and symbolism when man and woman love one another in marriage and become one Flesh (Genesis 2:24). (YOUCT question 402) KNOW SINTS YOUR St. Norbert (d. 1134) In the twelfth century in the French region of Premontre, St. Norbert founded a religious Order known as the Praemonstratensians or the Norbertines. His founding of the Order was a monumental task: combating rampant heresies (particularly regarding the Blessed Sacrament), revitalizing many of the faithful who had grown indifferent and dissolute, plus effecting peace and reconciliation among enemies. Norbert entertained no pretensions about his own ability to accomplish this multiple task. Even with the aid of a goodly number of men who joined his Order, he realized that nothing could be effectively done without God s power. Finding this help especially in devotion to the Blessed Sacrament, he and his Norbertines praised God for success in converting heretics, reconciling numerous enemies and rebuilding faith in indifferent believers. Many of them lived in central houses during the week and served in parishes on weekends. Reluctantly, Norbert became archbishop of Magdeburg in central Germany, a territory half pagan and half Christian. In this position he zealously and courageously continued his work for the Church until his death on June 6, 1134. www.americancatholic.org PRTICIPTING IN THE JUBILEE YER OF MERCY THIS WEEK, WE SHLL REFLECT ON THE SIXTH SPIRITUL WORK OF MERCY. The Spiritual Works of Mercy have long been a part of the Christian tradition, appearing in the works of theologians and spiritual writers throughout history. Just as Jesus attended to the spiritual well-being of those he ministered to, these Spiritual Works of Mercy guide us to help our neighbor in their spiritual needs. (USCC) BERING WRONGS PTIENTLY Do not be bitter about wrongs done against you. Place your hope in God so that you can endure the troubles of this world and face them with a compassionate spirit. Frustrated with someone? Step away from the situation; take a few deep breaths, pray the Our Father, asking God for patience. 4

JUNE 4-5, 2016 PSTOR S R MBLIN GS 1 GRDUTION: On May 19, 27 students graduated from our school and are now moving on to high school (photo, top left). The schools they will be attending are Purcell Marian, St. Xavier, Walnut Hills, DePaul Cristo Rey, Mount Notre Dame, Moeller, Roger Bacon, and Mculey. Congratulations to all of our graduates! 1 NEW PROCHIL VICR NNOUNCED: On May 21, at the priests ordination Mass, the archbishop announced that our pastoral region has been assigned Fr. Jason Williams (photo, above left). Fr. Williams, 34, spent six years in the Navy on a nuclear submarine before he entered his studies for the priesthood. Fr. Williams has many interests, including running, hiking, playing the organ, piano, and violin, as well as woodworking. On behalf of the parishes of the region, we congratulate and welcome Fr. Williams to our parishes. 1 TWELVE YERS PRIEST: I am so happy to have had a nice reception (photo, above right) after Mass on May 22 to celebrate my 12 years as a priest. I had just attended the priests ordination for the diocese the day before and was so inspired. It was great to see the newly ordained feeling the joy of starting their new vocation, and I was able to meet the new parochial vicar who will be joining our parish. 1 REDS GME: The students at St. (photo, top right) who sold the most raffle tickets for our annual festival were treated to a Reds game. We had a three-point lead at one point and almost won the game. We ended up losing, but the food and fun of being at a Reds game made up for it. 1 SPOTTED T THE ORDINTION: It was great to see Fr. Jim Riehle at the ordination. He looked great and seemed very happy. Here he is holding Mary Mae Beiersdorfer (photo, above left). He was so glad to run into our parishioners who attended the ordination. 1 NEWLYWEDS: Nick Longo and Lauren Holmer (photo, above right) celebrated the Sacrament of Matrimony on Sat., May 21. Congratulations! 1 WELCOME, CHILDREN OF GOD: On May 22, I baptized Dominic Leo Carlo, son of Joseph and Victoria Carlo (photo, below left); Ryan ndrew Calhoun, son of Gregory and Stephanie Calhoun (photo, below center); and Kane and Kole McGonagle, sons of Kyle and Maribel McGonagle (photo, below right).
