You have the words of eternal life. John 6:68 NKJV REFORMATION SUNDAY (The 22nd Sunday after Trinity) October 27 & 30, 2013 Volume 76, No. 55 Deacon: Omar Olmanson; Organist: Bonnie Cornish Sound: Doug Schaller; Video: Mike Schweim; Screen: Rachael Hanel Head Usher: Nathan Olmanson; Asst. Usher: Joseph Friedrichs WELCOME to all visitors! Please sign the guest register in the narthex. Visitors and members: feel free to speak with the Pastor after the service, or call: 387-7035 for Pastor Nolting or 344-0898 for Pastor Eichstadt or 345-3027 for the church office. PRE-SERVICE DEVOTION: Psalm 46 (p. 504, pew Bible; p.134, red hymnal) [Pew Bibles are on the book shelves in the narthex and on the back door counter.] PRE-SERVICE PRAYER: Lord, keep me steadfast in Your Word; Curb those who by deceit or sword would wrest the kingdom from Your Son and bring to naught all He has done. Lord Jesus Christ, Your pow r make known, For You are Lord of lords alone; Defend Your holy Church that we may sing Your praise eternally. O Comforter of priceless worth, send peace and unity on earth; support us in our final strife and lead us out of death to life. Amen. [TLH 261 / LSB 655]

ORDER OF SERVICE [Worship Supplement 2000, pp. 12ff] PREPARATION FOR WORSHIP ENTRANCE HYMN: Built on the Rock the Church Shall Stand Built on the Rock the Church shall stand Even when steeples are falling. Crumbled have spires in ev ry land; Bells still are chiming and calling, Calling the young and old to rest, But above all the souls distressed, Longing for rest everlasting. Surely in temples made with hands, God, the Most High, is not dwelling; High above earth His temple stands, All earthly temples excelling. Yet He who dwells in heav n above Chooses to live with us in love, Making our bodies His temple. We are God's house of living stones, Built for His own habitation. He through baptismal grace us owns Heirs of His wondrous salvation. Were we but two His name to tell, Yet He would deign with us to dwell, With all His grace and His favor. Grant then, O God, Your will be done, That, when the church bells are ringing, Many in saving faith may come Where Christ His message is bringing: "I know My own, My own know Me; You, not the world, My face shall see. My peace I leave with you. Amen." LSB #645. WELCOME in the name of the LORD our God whose Gospel is the power for our salvation. INVOCATION (Pastor): In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Congregation: 2

CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION Text: from Christian Worship: A Lutheran Hymnal 1993 Northwestern Publishing House. All rights reserved. OneLicense.net License #A-710933 Pastor: We have come into the presence of God, who created us to love and serve Him as His dear children. But we have disobeyed Him and deserve only His wrath and punishment. Therefore, let us confess our sins to Him and plead for His mercy. Congregation: Merciful Father in heaven, I am altogether sinful from birth. In countless ways I have sinned against You and do not deserve to be called Your child. But trusting in Jesus, my Savior, I pray: Have mercy on me according to Your unfailing love. Cleanse me from my sin, and take away my guilt. Pastor: God, our heavenly Father, has forgiven all your sins. By the perfect life and innocent death of our Lord Jesus Christ, He has removed your guilt forever. You are His own dear child. May God give you strength to live according to His will. Congregation: Congregation (sings): THE SERVICE OF THE WORD [Music in Worship Supplement, p. 13] GLORY TO GOD, WE GIVE YOU THANKS Lord, have mercy on us, Christ, have mercy on us. Lord, have mercy on us. Text: Edwin LeGrice 1991 Kevin Mayhew Ltd. All rights reserved. OneLicense.net License #A-710933 1. Glory to God, we give You thanks and praise; Of heav'nly joy and peace on earth we sing. We worship You, to You our hearts we raise, Lord God, almighty Father, heav'nly King. 2. Lord Jesus Christ, the Father's only Son, You bore for us the load of this world's sin. O Lamb of God, Your glorious vict'ry won, Receive our prayer, grant us Your peace within. 3. Alone, O Christ, You only are the Lord, At God's right hand in majesty most high: Who, with the Spirit worshiped and adored, With all the heav'nly host we glorify. 3

PRAYER OF THE DAY P: Let us pray...... through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Congregation: FIRST LESSON: 2 Chronicles 34:29-33 (p.415, pew Bible) There was need for religious reform in the days of King Josiah. Josiah listened to God s Word and acted upon its direction by removing the evil and following what God desires. He also led his people according to God s Word. The nation was blessed as a result of Josiah s reforms. PSALM OF THE DAY: Psalm 46 Pastor: Psalm 46:1-3 Hymn: 774 (1) A Mighty Fortress Is Our God Pastor: Psalm 46:4-7 Hymn: 774 (2-3) A Mighty Fortress Is Our God Pastor: Psalm 46:8-11 Hymn: 774 (4) A Mighty Fortress Is Our God SECOND LESSON: John 2:13-16 (p.939, pew Bible) There was a need for religious reform in the days of Jesus. The temple had become a marketplace. Jesus forcibly removed the offending traders and sellers seeking to restore the temple as God s House. Pastor: Blessed are they who hear the Word of God and keep it. Congregation (sings): [Music in Worship Supplement, p. 14] Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! These words are written that we may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! APOSTOLIC CREED I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, 4

Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
