Bethel Presbyterian Church Corner of George and Brookland Streets, Sydney, NS Our Mission: To share the gospel of Jesus Christ with our community in our worship and our living. Our Vision is to be a local community of believers where: Jesus Christ is head; The Bible has the ultimate authority as the true, infallible and complete Word of God; Salvation through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and belief in His finished work on the cross is preached; The Gospel of Christ is spread in our community, our nation and around the world in both work and action; - Believers encourage each other and hold others in higher regard than themselves so that each may use the gifts God has given him/her to the glory of God.

L: For making us in your image to love one another and to care for your creation, L: For the gift of your Son Jesus Christ through whom we have received grace upon grace, L: For the gift of your Word, a lamp to our feet and a light to our path, L: For the gift of faith through which we can be reconciled to you L: For the gift of your own Holy Spirit who leads us into all truth, L: By your Holy Spirit, empower us to show your love to others even as we pray for: the church and those who lead in it Silence the world that we may learn to reverence and care for it Silence Those who rule in the nations of the world Silence Those who serve as teachers, healers and caregivers Silence The poor, the homeless, the hungry Silence who mourn and are alone Silence those imprisoned for defending truth or justice Silence those who, like many Reformers, are refugees for religious reasons Silence powerless and the oppressed in all nations Silence are persecuted in the service of Christ Silence God eternal, keep us in communion with your saints of all time That we may serve you well until your will is done on earth as it is in heaven and your kingdom fully comes. To you, through Jesus Christ your Son and the Holy Spirit, we offer all praise and honour. And now we join our voices in the prayer which Jesus Christ himself taught his followers saying: All: Our Father who art in heaven Offering Offertory 3

Under One Umbrella-Cape Breton Winter Wear Donations Request Event Date: Nov. 04, 2017 (12:00PM-4:00PM) Centre 200, Sydney Under One Umbrella Cape Breton is a special event designed to give people, who are homeless or at risk of being homeless, access to a wide range of health and other support services all under one roof in one day. 6

Our goal is to provide easy access to services people may not otherwise have an opportunity to access. The range of services offered at this event could vary from foot care, dental screening, eye care, hearing, medical, mental health and addiction services,, housing, haircuts, legal information, food security information, winter clothing, a hot meal and more. Last year many churches gave donations of warm socks (new) which we included in our comfort kit (500 kits) and warm winter wear for all ages including mitts, gloves, winter hats, jackets, boots or other foot wear (winter boots are in high demand). A total of 396 people (Men, Women & Children) were able to get winter wear. We will be collecting donated items beginning Sept 22 st with an end date of Oct 20 th. We hope your faith community will once again answer our call for help. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call, Eileen MacNeil, Coordinator Under One Umbrella at 902-371-0101 or Erin Forsey, Health Promotion Coordinator at 902-563-2410 or email underoneumbrella@nshealth.ca. We truly appreciate your help and thank you for your time and support. Eileen MacNeil/Erin Forsey 7

Thanks to Presbyterians Sharing, ministers and ministries across Canada are receiving the encouragement and guidance they need to thrive through a variety of coaching networks. Programs such as the New Church Development Coaches and the Social Mentor Network bring direct support to ministries by matching them with trained coaches who provide guidance and support. Whether getting a new church start off the ground or navigating the challenges of managing a church-based outreach mission, coaches help leadership teams hear where God is calling them and equip them with the tools needed to follow God s call. In 2018 Canadian Ministries will pilot two new coaching programs in the area of evangelism and congregational renewal! Presbyterians Sharing provides meaningful guidance and support to ministries 8
