I said I was sorry, Nic. I just had a minor freak out moment. (Quietly) Aaaaand then I forgot you were under there and went to Chuck E. Cheese for double ticket night. What?! Did you at least win something good? (Taking kazoo out of pocket) Yeah! I won this! Watch what it can do! (Starts playing kazoo) Isn t it great? (Covering ears) No! That sounds horrible! Why did you bring that to work with you, Moe? Well I have to practice every day. I ve never tried learning a new instrument before and I think I m getting really good at it. (Pretending to click on the computer) It s a video message from someone named Maria. Let s see what it says! FIRE: FB_ES_Wk4_LG_Maria Message MARIA Hey there! I m calling in because I need your help. There s a club at school and all the popular girls are in it. It s the Jell-O club, where they eat Jell-O every day. I lied and told them that I LOVE Jell-O but the truth is that I ve never had it and I m SO scared to try new things! What if it makes me gag or throw up...or something worse! I m afraid that if I don t like the Jell-O, then I ll never fit in with the Jell-O club. Can you help me bust my fears? Do you have any ideas on how we can bust this fear? Hmmmm let me think. (Starts playing kazoo while thinking) Page 3 of 11
(Grabs kazoo from Moe and throws toward backstage) You ve GOT to stop playing that! (Pulls another kazoo out from pocket) It s ok. I have another one. (Starts playing) takes second kazoo and throws it toward backstage. (cont d) (Pulls a third kazoo from pocket) Ta-da! (Starts playing kazoo) (Takes third kazoo and throws toward backstage) Seriously! How many of those things did you win? And have you thought of how we can bust this fear yet? As a matter of fact, I have! But we re gonna need some help. And also that table over there. (Points toward game table) and work together to bring game table to center of stage. Table should have TWO sets of Game Supplies: a piece of Mint Chocolate Chip Gum, a piece of Lemon Square Gum, and a piece of Root Beer Float Gum, and Game Sheets. Alright so what s the plan with all this gum? I ll tell you...as soon as we get our game players up here! Let me get and (Contestants chosen before ) to come on up! So here s how to play. There are three different kinds of gum up here. Our contestants are going to taste all three flavors, one at a time. When they know what flavor it is, they will put their chewed gum in the circle beside the flavor they just tried. After tasting all the pieces, they will move their chewed gum on the Game Sheet to rank their #1, #2 and #3 favorite flavors, with #1 being the MOST favorite (Shows Game Sheets). Then, we re going to find out what the survey says is America s favorite flavor gum. (To kids on stage) But you don t need to be afraid if your answer is different from the survey or what other kids say. (Looks at gum) I already know my favorite...all of them!! But I m ready to find out what everyone else s favorites are. So let s count it down from three and play this game. Ready? 3...2...1...GO! Great job everyone! Let s see what the survey said. FIRE: FB_ES_Wk4_LG_Survey Says w/ SFX (cont d) The survey says the most popular was the Lemon Square Flavor. But since all of you told us which one you liked best, you each get a large piece of candy! and give each child a Large Candy Prize and clean kids hands and Game Sheets with wipes. Then, move game table back to the side. So in order to bust this fear, we showed Maria that she doesn t need to be afraid of trying new things. Look at and (Game contestants). They weren t afraid to try those new flavors of Gum! Yeah! And they busted that fear of not fitting in. They weren t worried about what the survey said or what the other game contestant said. We can write back to Maria and tell her what we found out about not being afraid of new things. Then we can remind her of the truth that since God is with us, we don t need to be afraid. KEELEY Oh look! It s an invitation for us all to go to the roller skating rink for Ellie s birthday!! Roller rink!? I love to skate! SHAWN Listen guys, I don t think I m going to be able to make it that day, I m sick and I have a test...and a doctor s appointment...and chores, I have a lot of chores that I have to do. KEELEY All of those things in one day? Come on The Professor, what s the real reason? SHAWN Yeah, don t you want to go skating? Here s the deal. I have NEVER EVER in my life gone skating before. I mean, WHEELS ON SHOES?! Who even thought of that?! I guess you could say I m really afraid of trying something new. SHAWN Roller rink...trying something new!?!? Man, do I have a story about that! There was once a time that I had fear about trying something new. It all started long, long ago in a little pair of skates far far away. When I was a young FearBuster, I loved to roller skate. My Dad told me about this place called Skate Land. He said it was awesome, so one day he brought me there and it was amazing! Skate Land had one of the biggest, shiniest, smoothest skating rinks around. I was so excited, until I saw the skaters. These skaters were BIG, TALL, GIANTS they were going about 100 miles per hour past me! Some of them were great skaters, but some of them weren t But they all had one thing in common, they were gigantic!! I had a choice to make get on the rink or leave Skate Land, the place I had been promised was the best around. KEELEY Hold up right there, this sounds so much like a story I ve heard too! Only it s from the Bible. See, God had brought all his people to this place called the Promised Page 6 of 11
Land. Before they went into the Promised Land, God chose 12 men to go ahead and check it out. Two of those men were Joshua and Caleb. When they went into the Promised Land they loved it. I mean, this place was called that for a reason, it was everything they had hoped for and dreamed it would be. But then, they saw them...very big people! Like so super tall that they said they felt like little grasshoppers next to them. They were scared. So they ran back to camp to tell the others So what did Joshua and Caleb do?! Wait! What about little Shawn, what did he do?! The suspense, it s more than I can take!! SHAWN So I did it, I remembered this Bible verse that I heard at church that says So we can say with confidence, The Lord is my helper, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me? It s from Hebrews 13:6. I faced my fear, I started skating on the rink, giants and all. And you know what, they didn t hurt me, they didn t knock me down, and I had the time of my life. What about Joshua and Caleb?!?! Did they go back to the Promised Land? Or did they stay scared of those giants. KEELEY When they went back to camp, Joshua and Caleb weren t scared, but 10 of the men who went with them were. The men told everyone that the Promised Land was full of GIANTS!! Joshua and Caleb tried to remind everyone that God had promised them this Land and that they didn t need to be afraid! But the people didn t listen, which was so sad, because they didn t get to go into the Promised Land. But Joshua and Caleb remembered the truth in God s Word and got to go and live the good life in the Promised Land. What a happy ending. I mean those stories had it all: action, adventure, Bigfoot. I guess I don t need to have the fear of trying something new. I can remember YOUR story, the Bible story AND the Bible verse because truth is remembering God s Word. Page 7 of 11
SHAWN We can say that the fear of trying something new is busted... FEAR BUSTED! ALL LIGHTS AT 100% So Caleb and Joshua knew that God was with them and since He was with them, they didn t need to be afraid of the new place or all those giant people. Yeah! We re busting fears, Caleb and Joshua were busting fears, the field team is busting fears. I m loving this fear busting action! ACT TWO: Lil Cricket Well, do we have any more fears we can bust? (Checking mailbox, pulling out envelope) We sure do! We have some FearMail. (Opens envelope and pulls out letter inside) Let s read this letter. It says: Dear, my name is Jamal and I have a fear I need you to bust. I have a pet frog and I m supposed to feed it crickets. The problem is that I have a HUGE fear of bugs...especially crickets! They re so jumpy and they have all those legs. Yech! They give me the heebie jeebies. How am I supposed to feed my pet frog if I can t even come close to the crickets? Can you help me? Do you remember when we were afraid to feed our snake, Steve? We didn t want him to starve, so we finally had to get over our fear of the crickets and reach our hands in! (Grabbing some crickets and feeding them to Steve) Yeah, see? Now we aren t afraid of them at all! (Grabbing a cricket from the snake food) I have an idea! I ll get one of these crickets and we can use bust Jamal s fear. How can we prove that bugs can t hurt us? First of all, can crickets beat you at arm wrestling? Page 8 of 11
Well, crickets don t have arms. They only have legs. Exactly, proof that crickets CANNOT beat you in arm wrestling! Secondly, can crickets step on humans and squish us? Let me see. (Picks up cricket and pretends to put ONE cricket leg on Moe s head) I ll put one foot on you for now. Just to be safe. I don t feel anything. Try putting all the legs on my head and let s see if a cricket can squish you using all its legs. (Putting cricket on Moe s head, bury in hair) There ya go. Are you feeling squished? Nope! I think it s safe to say that bugs can t hurt us. Is this fear fully busted? I think so. We can tell Jamal that he doesn t need to be afraid of bugs for the same reason Maria didn t have to be afraid of the popular girls in the Jell-O club. If God is with us, then no man, OR BUG, can hurt us! Basically, we can bust these fears by remembering truth from God s Word! I say that s Fear BUSTED! (Hits Fear Busted Button) FIRE: FB_ES_LG_FearBUSTED w/ SFX (Panicking) Nic! I just realized that cricket was still in my hair. Will you grab it? But don t you mess up my perfect hair. (Looks through Moe s hair, can t find cricket) Ummmm Moe, I m not seeing it. Maybe he jumped to the ground somewhere around here. (Starts looking around on the ground) (Twitches once) Hey Nic, I think I know where the cricket went. (Twitches again) Nooooo. Is it in there? (Points to Moe s shirt) Page 9 of 11
Uh-huh. And I m really, (Twitches) really, (Twitches) TICKLISH!!!! (Starts freaking out, laughing as if being tickled - does this for several seconds and then stops) Ok, I think he s gone. He must have crawled out. Whew. I m good. You sure? That was quite a show. Yeah, yeah. I m sure. But I think I should go to the bathroom and check my clothes for the cricket - just to be sure. (Starts to exit) Good luck with that. and exit. LIGHTS DOWN FIRE: FB_ES_LG_Logo w/ Teaching Music LIGHTS AT 100% Worship leaders take stage. WORSHIP/WRAP UP WORSHIP LEADER Wow! That was a fun day in the lab today! Let s just do a quick review to make sure everyone s on the same page. What fears were busted today? (He is always with us, He will protect us, He loves us) Can we bust our fears by remembering these things? (Yes) Yeah! When we remember what God s Word says, we can bust any fear. Whether you re afraid of other people, moving to a new school, or giant bugs that live in your backyard, you can bust these fears by remembering what God says. That reminds me of what we need to know! Let s play a game that will lead us to what we Need to Know today. The professor will have three cups. Underneath one of these cups is a ball.
