We invite all, however, to partake of the blessed bread which is distributed at the dismissal. Confessions are heard by special appointment. The Eucharistic fast begins at midnight on Saturday and ends with the receiving of Holy Communion. Please see Fr. Elie if you have any questions or for inquiries on how to become a full member of the Church. In a more Biblical sense, the term is used specifically for the supernatural gifts Christians need to carry out the specific tasks expected of them in promoting the spiritual welfare and advancement of their fellow-christians. In his I Epistle to the Corinthians (12:8-11), St. Paul gives a list of these charismata that include wisdom, knowledge, prophesy, discerning of spirits, tongues, and the interpretation of tongues, as also the charismata given to Apostles, prophets, teachers, and those to whom the government of the Church is entrusted. When the burden of the righteous is too heavy, their ship will sink, while if it is moderate, it floats and sails safely. Indeed, our life is similar to sailing, the world-to a sea, the body-to a ship; the soul within the body is like a man inside the ship, and a man's deeds are the freight. If the ship is empty, the wind will cause it to capsize. If it is overloaded, it can easily sink even if there are no waves and no wind-and if waves and wind arouse, it will soon sink. It is only by moderate loading it that you will be able to sail safely St. John Chrysostom Greetings in Christ, "Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place" 2 Corinthians 2:14 We thank everyone who helped make our Family Day as successful as it was. Thanks to those who donated, those who organized, those who helped setting it up, those who prepared the food and thanks to anyone who helped in anyway to make this Family Day an enjoyable event to all who attended. The location was perfect and with the grace of God we had a beautiful weather. Everyone who attended had a great time, especially when everyone participated in Fr. Elie s famous game. If you did not make it this time we missed you. We hope you will be able to join us next summer. We will always work for the glory of God. Sincerely in Christ, Salwa

Coffee Hour Sponsorships The Parish Council has decided to implement a new system to organize our coffee hours. There are two ways to handle this: when a couple, family, or an individual decides to sponsor the coffee hour, you may do it on your own which entails purchasing the pastry & juice, making the coffee, setting up the table, and cleaning up. The second option is to donate $100 to the church so that a Parish Council member will handle the coffee hour on your behalf. ** ALL Coffee hour s will now be held at the Parish Center following Liturgy.** ~Please consider sponsoring a Coffee Hour~ Date: Sponsored by: Sponsored for: September 4, 2016 Makram & Louise Megalli Health of Madison, Taylor, Edgar & Logan September 11, 2016 no coffee hour Welcoming luncheon/1st day of Church School September 18, 2016 Elie & Julia Karam Health of Naji upon his graduation September 25, 2016 Chadi Saad Health of His Family October 2, 2016 Open for sponsorship October 9, 2016 Open for sponsorship October 16, 2016 Open for sponsorship October 23, 2016 Open for sponsorship October 30, 2016 Open for sponsorship November 6, 2016 no coffee hour 2016 Annual Holiday Bazaar November 13, 2016 Open for sponsorship November 20, 2016 Open for sponsorship November 27, 2016 Open for sponsorship December 4, 2016 Open for sponsorship December 11, 2016 Open for sponsorship December 18, 2016 Open for sponsorship December 25th, 2016 no coffee hour January 1, 2017 Open for sponsorship January 8, 2017 Open for sponsorship January 15, 2017 Open for sponsorship January 22, 2017 Dr. Zeyad & Norma Morcos Memory of Elias Morcos There are still many open dates to sponsor a coffee hour. Eleventh Sunday After Pentecost & Eleventh Sunday of Matthew Sunday, September 4, 2016 Tone: 2 Eothinon: 11 Troparion of the Resurrection: Tone 2 When Thou didst submit Thyself unto death, O Thou deathless and immortal One, then Thou didst destroy hell with Thy Godly power. And when Thou didst raise the dead from beneath the earth, all the powers of Heaven did cry aloud unto Thee: O Christ, Thou giver of life, glory to Thee. Troparion of St. Babylas of Antioch: Tone 4 By choosing the Apostles way of life, thou hast succeeded to their throne. Inspired by God, thou didst find the way to divine contemplation through the practice of virtue. After teaching the Word of Truth without error, thou didst defend the Faith to the very shedding of thy blood, O Hieromartyr Babylas. Entreat the Lord our God to save our souls. Troparion of the Dormition: Tone 1 In thy birth-giving, O Theotokos, thou didst keep and preserve virginity; and in thy falling-asleep thou hast not forsaken the world; for living thou wast translated, being the Mother of Life. Wherefore, by thine intercessions, deliver our souls from death. Kontakion of the Nativity of the Theotokos: Tone 4 By thy holy nativity, O pure one, Joachim and Anna were delivered from the reproach of barrenness; and Adam and Eve were delivered from the corruption of death; thy people do celebrate it, having been saved from the stain of iniquity, crying unto thee: The barren doth give birth to the Theotokos, who nourisheth our life.

THE EPISTLE The Lord is my strength and my song. The Lord has chastened me severely. The Reading from the First Epistle of St. Paul to the Corinthians. (9:2-12) Brethren, you are the seal of my apostleship in the Lord. This is my defense to those who would examine me. Do we not have the right to our food and drink? Do we not have the right to be accompanied by a wife, as the other apostles and the brothers of the Lord and Cephas? Or is it only Barnabas and I who have no right to refrain from working for a living? Who serves as a soldier at his own expense? Who plants a vineyard without eating any of its fruit? Who tends a flock without getting some of the milk? Do I say this on human authority? Does not the law say the same? For it is written in the Law of Moses, You shall not muzzle an ox when it is treading out the grain. Is it for oxen that God is concerned? Does he not speak entirely for our sake? It was written for our sake, because the plowman should plow in hope and the thresher thresh in hope of a share in the crop. If we have sown spiritual good among you, is it too much if we reap your material benefits? If others share this rightful claim upon you, do not we still more? Nevertheless, we have not made use of this right, but we endure anything rather than put an obstacle in the way of the Gospel of Christ. THE GOSPEL The Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew. (18:23-35) The Lord spoke this parable: The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who wished to settle accounts with his servants. When he began the reckoning, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents; and as he could not pay, his lord ordered him to be sold, with his wife and children and all that he had, and payment to be made. So the servant fell on his knees, imploring him, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay you everything. And out of pity for him the lord of that servant released him and forgave him the debt. But that same servant, as he went out, came upon one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii; and seizing him by the throat he said, Pay what you owe. So his fellow servant fell down and besought him, Have patience with me, and I will pay you. He refused and went and put him in prison until he should pay the debt. When his fellow servants saw what had taken place, they were greatly distressed, and they went and reported to their lord all that had taken place. Then his lord summoned him and said to him, You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you besought me; and should not you have had mercy on your fellow servant, as I had mercy on you? And in anger his lord delivered him to the jailers, until he should pay all his debt. So also My heavenly Father will do to every one of you, if you do not forgive your brother from your heart.
