Love Lifted Me Recovery Ministries http://www.loveliftedmerecovery.com II Peter 1:1-4 1. SIMON PETER, a servant and APOSTLE of Jesus Christ, to those who have obtained LIKE precious FAITH with US by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ: John 1:41-42 "He first found his own brother, and said to him, "We have found the Messiah" (which is translated Christ). And he brought him to. Now when looked at him, He said, "You are the son of Jonah. You shall be called Cephas" (which is translated a stone)." Luke 6:13-16 "And when it was day, He called His to Him; and from them He twelve whom He also named :, whom He also named, and Andrew his brother; James and John; Philip and Bartholomew; Matthew and Thomas; James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon called the Zealot; Judas the son of James, and Iscariot who also became a." Definition: "SIMON PETER, a servant and APOSTLE" - Simon, whom Jesus later named Peter, was one of the original twelve disciples of Jesus. Disciple means a "learner" or follower. The original twelve disciples were also called "apostles" which means "sent ones." After Judas Iscariot betrayed Jesus and then hanged himself, the disciples chose another one of the many disciples to make up the number of twelve again. However, God never told them to chose someone on their own, and as you read the New Testament, you see that it is actually the Apostle Paul who is supposed to take the place of the twelfth apostle. Then, where it says, "He FIRST found his own brother SIMON" we see Andrew INTRODUCING his brother Simon to Jesus on this occasion, but Peter did not make the DECISION to FOLLOW Jesus and "forsake ALL" until later (see Luke 5:1-11). This is like a lot of us - we may KNOW JESUS as our Savior, but it may take a long time beforewe really SURRENDER our lives to Him completely. Matthew 4:18 "Now, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, called, and his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen." Definition: "You shall be called CEPHAS" - "Cephas" is the Hebrew, the Greek is "Petros," meaning a rock or stone, and which we translate as PETER in English. Jesus is NOT naming Simon for any rocklike quality in his personality or character, because we see Peter as being VOLATILE, IMPETUOUS, WILD and UNSTABLE in the natural. Rather, Jesus is prophesying what Simon will be like IN THE FUTURE, when he will be BORN AGAIN and FILLED with the HOLY SPIRIT. Matthew 16:17-18 "Jesus answered and said to him, ' are you, Bar-Jonah (son of Jonah), for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My who is in heaven. And I also say to you that you are, and on this I will My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail (be victorious) against it.'" Definition: "On this ROCK I will build My CHURCH" - II Peter 1:1 says "those who have obtained LIKE precious FAITH with US" - we are to have FAITH in Jesus Christ just like Peter's faith. It is not Peter himself that the church is built upon, but the CONFESSION of his FAITH that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. In the Greek, this distinction is obvious, because Peter is "petros" a "little rock" or pebble,

and "on THIS ROCK," the word "petra" is used, meaning a large, solid rock, even a boulder. Luke 9:20 "He (Jesus) said to them, 'But who do you that am?' Peter answered and said, 'The of.'" Matthew 16:15-16 "He said to them, 'But do you say that I?' And Simon Peter answered and said, 'You are the, the of the Living.'" Romans 10:9 "That if you with your the Lord and in your that God has Him from the dead, will be." 2-3. Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His DIVINE POWER has given to us ALL THINGS that pertain to LIFE and GODLINESS, through the knowledge of Him who CALLED US by glory and virtue, I Thessalonians 2:12 "That you would have a walk of who you into His own and." John 14:25-26 "These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. But the Helper, the, whom the will send in My name, He will teach you, and bring to your remembrance that I said to you." Definition: "GODLINESS" - Having the character attributes of God and Christ; being and acting LIKE JESUS in all situations. We can NEVER attain godliness in our own power and strength, but God has provided us the Holy Spirit and the fruit of the Spirit. When we ALLOW the Holy Spirit to produce His fruit in our lives, He is producing the character of Jesus in us. Galatians 5:22-23 "But the fruit of the is, joy,, longsuffering (PATIENCE),,, faithfulness,,. Against such there is no law." Definition: "Has given to us ALL THINGS that pertain to LIFE and GODLINESS" - God does NOT leave us ALONE to flounder on our own and in our own strength to live the Christian life. He has given to us ALL THINGS that we need for "life and godliness", or in other words, ALL THINGS that we need to live a godly Christian life for Jesus Christ. God has already given you everything you need, all the equipment and all the power you need to obey Him and live for Him, you just need to take hold of it and appropriate it for your life. He has given you the POWER of His HOLY SPIRIT, and the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18), and He has given you authority over Satan and his kingdom (Luke 10:19), and so much more. But YOU must avail yourself of it all. YOU must yield yourself to the Holy Spirit, YOU must put on the armor, YOU must confess your sins and ACCEPT God's forgiveness and cleansing from ALL sin (I John 1:9), and YOU must submit yourself to God, resist the devil, and EXPECT the devil to flee from you (James 4:7-8). John 14:16-19 "And I will pray the Father, and He will you another, that may abide with you forever, even the of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will leave you ; I will to

you. A little while longer, and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also." Definition: "He will GIVE you ANOTHER HELPER - Some versions say "Comforter," but there is really no one English word that can describe the meaning of the Greek word, which is Parakletos. In the English dictionary, there is a word "Paraclete" which means Holy Spirit, but it is obviously just an anglicized version of the Greek word. The dictionary says "advocate, intercessor," but the actual meaning of the Greek word is "one who comes alongside to help." John 15:26 "But when the comes, whom I shall to you from the, the of truth who proceeds from the, will of Me." Definition: "HE will TEACH you ALL THINGS" - It is the Holy Spirit and His anointing (unction) that gives us understanding of the word of God, and "enlightens our spiritual eyes." This is also why people who are not saved and don't have the Holy Spirit can read the Bible and make such a mess of it! The Apostle Peter tells us that those who are unstable and UNTAUGHT "twist" the Scriptures to their own destruction" (II Peter 3:16). They are un-taught because they do not have the Holy Spirit LIVING in them to TEACH them! I John 2:20 & 27 "But you have an from the One, and you know." (Verse 27) "But the which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone you; but as the same you concerning, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as has taught you, you will abide in Him." Ephesians 1:17-19 "That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the of glory, may give unto you the of and revelation in the of Him; [that] the of your would be enlightened; that you may what is the hope of His, and what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints; and what is the exceeding greatness of His toward us who believe, according to the of His mighty." Definition: "ANOINTING" - There is nothing mysterious about the word "anointing." The King James version says "unction," which is the same meaning, and that is the applying or application of the power of the Holy Spirit. The same word "anointing" is used for rubbing oil on someone or something, and oil is used symbolically for the Holy Spirit in the Bible. The anointing of the Holy Spirit then is the active WORKING of the power of the Holy Spirit in your life. Definition: "Him who CALLED US" - God has "called us" in that He has chosen us and has a plan for our lives according to His own great purpose. We will never be truly happy until we bring our lives into conformity with His CALLING and PURPOSE for us. II Timothy 1:8-9 "Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our, nor of me His prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings for the gospel according to the of God, who has saved us and us with a, not according to, but according to His own

and grace which was to us in Christ Jesus before time began." Romans 8:28-31 "And we know that things together for to those who God, to those who are the according to His. For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the of His, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. For whom He foreknew, him He also predestinated to be conformed to the image of, that He (Jesus) might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover, whom He predestined, these He also, whom He, these He also, and whom He justified, these He also." I Corinthians 1:26-29 "For you see your, brethren, that not many according to the flesh, not many, not many are. But God has chosen the things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the things of the world to put to the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world, and the things which are God has,... (verse 29) That no flesh (no human being) should glory in His." 4. By which have been given to us exceedingly GREAT and PRECIOUS PROMISES, that through these YOU may be PARTAKERS of the DIVINE NATURE, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. Hebrews 12:9-10 "Furthermore, we have had fathers who corrected us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much more readily be in to the of and live? For they indeed for a few days chastened (disciplined) us as seemed best to them, but He for our profit, that we may be of His." Definition: "PARTAKE" - to share or participate in; to take part in something. Definition: "YOU may be PARTAKERS of the DIVINE NATURE" - It is through the "exceedingly GREAT and PRECIOUS PROMISES" in God's word, as we RENEW our MINDS with the word of God, that we escape the corruption of this world and become partakers of God's holiness, His divine nature. Rather than being PARTAKERS in the SIN and CORRUPTION of this world, God allows us to be PARTAKERS of His DIVINE NATURE - His holiness. Romans 6:17-18 "But God be thanked, that though you were (used to be) slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine (teaching) that was delivered to you. And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness." Ephesians 4:23-24 "And be in the spirit of your ; and that you put on the, which was according to God, in righteousness and true." Romans 12:1-2 "And do not be conformed to this world, but be by the of your that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God." I John 3:2 "Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what shall, but we know that when is revealed, we shall be him, for we shall see Him as He is." Ephesians 5:6-7 "Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore, do not be with them."

Revelation 18:4 "And I heard another voice from heaven saying, 'Come of her,, lest you in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues." (This is referring to the wicked, world religious system. The King James Bible says "that you BE NOT PARTAKERS OF HER SINS")
