Today is the final Sunday of the Epiphany season and is historically called The Transfiguration of our Lord. The sermon and the Adult Growth Class (today 10:10 AM Rm 7/8) will be teaching and reflecting on the significance of this in Jesus life and in ours. ATTENTION! This Wednesday the Season of LENT begins with the powerfully reflective ASH WEDNESDAY observance of Imposition of Ashes (signs of our mortality and contrition) and the Sacrament of Holy Communion. Choose from: 6:30-6:50 AM before work - OR 12:00-12:40 PM daylight time - OR 6:30-7:20 PM Chancel Choir and Confirmands assisting. The big ol rugged cross will be in the Chancel and purple paraments will be our color of the season. This begins the 40 day season that prepares us spiritually for Holy Week and Easter Resurrection of our Lord and Savior. PLEASE NOTE: Starting Wednesday, Feb. 17, for 5 weeks, we gather for SOUP & SALAD SUPPER at 5:30 PM in the Hall and LENTEN VESPERS 6:30-7:05 pm in the Sanctuary. Speaking of Lent - Men! Can 13 of you give up shaving for Lent and grow (or keep growing) your beard to be part of Holy Week Maundy Thursday s Live Last Supper? No speaking, but you are one of the disciples and Jesus at the DaVinci s Last Supper scene. Sign up on back of Registration Sheet.

Let s Share Our Love During the Month of February As a means of sharing our love with our brothers and sisters who are homeless, the Social Outreach Services Team is sponsoring a drive to provide clothing for our homeless friends. When they arrive at the Warming Center on Orchard Ave., on a cold rainy night, they are wet and shivering and desperately in need of dry warm clothing to change into before they go to sleep. We are asking for your help by providing financial assistance by writing a check to Saint John s Lutheran Church re: Clothing Drive or by donating thermal shirts, sweat pants, socks, or energy/granola bars. Sizes vary so we are suggesting men s S, M, or L. Please see the baskets and display in the Commons Area. Thank you in advance for giving from your heart to make a difference to others. SPIRITED 50 S WILL MEET SATURDAY FEBRUARY 13 at 6:00 pm. We ll be gathering in the Fellowship Hall to fellowship, enjoy a delicious dessert and then proceed with the program for the evening. Our hosts will be the Miners, and with this being Valentine time, we will play our favorite game of dice hearts. So either sign the sign-up sheet on the bulletin board or give a call to the Miners 929-1121 or Frank Drake 343-2200 to let us know that you will be attending so we can be adequately prepared. Women s Ministry - Our February meeting is scheduled for Wed. Feb. 10 th at 1:00 pm. In honor of February being National Heart Month, our speaker is Danae Wilke, a Physician s Assistant with Coastal Cardiology at French Hospital. Her topic is Heart to Heart - Cardiac Health for Women. Danae has a distinguished resume; she is a cum laude graduate of Cal Poly and has advanced degrees in Interventional Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery. Don t miss this timely topic and wear Red in honor of National Heart Month and Valentine s Day. We will also reveal our Secret Pals for 2015 and select new ones for this year. If you wish to participate, please bring a Valentine s Card with your name, birth date and anniversary date (if applicable). The Women s Ministry is hosting the Lenten Soup Supper on Wed. Feb. 17 th. We already have volunteers for soups, salad and bread, but can use help for set up and clean up. Please call Rena Weiger at 805-929-3217 to let us know if you can help. Lenten Soup Suppers - 5 Wednesdays, starting Feb. 17. The simple meal of soup, salad, and bread is served at 5:30, before the Lenten Worship Service at 6:30. Bring your own table service, and enjoy good food, fellowship, and worship together.
