ELW refers to the Evangelical Lutheran Worship, the red worship book. Page numbers are in the front of the book with hymn numbers following in the middle & end. During worship, please silence all communication devices. *As you are able, please stand. Gathering Gathering Music Blessing, Honor, and Glory ELW Hymn 433 Welcome and Theme of the Day Even after Israel had experienced the vagaries of kings, they still longed for a king to set things right. He would have the king s title of Anointed One (Messiah); he would be the one like a human being (Son of Man) given dominion in Daniel s vision. Jesus is given these titles, even though he is nothing like an earthly king. His authority comes from the truth to which he bears witness, and those who recognize the truth voluntarily listen to her. We look forward to the day he is given dominion, knowing his victory will be the nonviolent victory of love. *Thanksgiving Gathering Psalm 100 Rejoice in the Lord always; make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come into God s presence with singing. Know that the Lord is God. It is God that made us, and we are God s; we are God s people, and the sheep of God s pasture. Enter God s gates with thanksgiving, and God s courts with praise. Give thanks to God, bless God s name. For the Lord is good; God s steadfast love endures forever. *Gathering Song Rejoice, for Christ Is King! ELW Hymn 430 *Greeting Sisters and brothers in Christ, beloved children of God: grace, mercy, and peace be with you. And also with you. 3

*Hymn of Praise This Is the Feast ELW setting 3, page 140 4

*Prayer of the Day Let us pray together. Almighty and ever-living God, you anointed your beloved Son to be priest and sovereign forever. Grant that all the people of the earth, now divided by the power of sin, may be united by the glorious and gentle rule of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. Word First Reading A Reading from Daniel 7:9-10, 13-14. NRSV, page 724 To the community for whom this passage was written, it seemed as though the oppression they were experiencing would never end. Daniel s message is: It shall end. The Ancient One who is judge will call all nations to account and will give dominion to one like a human being, the Messiah. After the reading, Word of God, Word of Life. Thanks be to God! 5

Second Reading A Reading from Revelation 1:4b-8. NRSV, page 994 The book of Revelation begins by celebrating the Almighty God, who spans all of time. Similarly, Jesus is celebrated as the firstborn from the dead who rules over the world s rulers. He is the one whose return we eagerly await. After the reading, Word of God, Word of Life. Thanks be to God! Word for God s Children Children ages 3-7 are invited to the All Saints Room. They will return after the Sermon. We encourage at least one parent to be present. *Gospel Acclamation Alleluia ELW setting 3, page 142 *Gospel The Holy Gospel according to John 18:33-37. NRSV, page 881 Glory to you, O Lord. In John s gospel, the story of Jesus and Pilate presents two different ways of exercising power: through force or with love. After the reading of the gospel, The Gospel of Our Lord! Praise to You, O Christ. Sermon Pr. Ric Elliott *Hymn of the Day Jesus Shall Reign ELW Hymn 434 6

*Sacrament of Holy Baptism Presentation We enter the Christian community in and through baptism. We are human, sin and fall short of all that God hopes we will be and all that the world needs us to be. God is a forgiving God who draws us into the cleansing baptismal water with Christ. With the water and the Word, the Spirit blows into us and we become a beloved child of God. Our baptism is followed by a lifelong journey of being nurtured and formed by the Word as taught through our family, affirmed by us, and experienced in and through the presence of Christ in worship, water, Word, wine, bread, and prayer. In our baptism, we are called to the mission of Christ, to be disciples in our daily lives for the sake of the world. Trusting in the grace and love of God, Brian and Meredith, do you desire to have Madeline baptized? Response: We do. Meredith and Brian, as you present Madeline to receive the gift of baptism, we are entrusted with these responsibilities: + to live with her among God's faithful people, + bring her to the word of God and the holy supper, + teach her the Lord's Prayer, the Creed, and the Ten Commandments, + place in her hands the holy scriptures, + and nurture her in faith and prayer, + so that Madeline may learn to trust God, + proclaim Christ through word and deed, + care for others and the world God made, + and work for justice and peace. Brian and Meredith, do you promise to help Madeline grow in the Christian faith and life? Response: We do. Allison and Jennifer as Madeline s Godparents, do you promise to nurture her in the Christian faith as you are empowered by God s Spirit, and to help her live into the promises of baptism and to stay connected with the body of Christ in a faith community? Response: We do. People of God, do you promise to support, nurture, teach, pray and welcome Madeline in her new life in Christ? We do. 7

Affirmation of Faith Baptism Meredith and Brian, Allison and Jennifer, I ask you to reject sin, affirm your faith in Christ, and proclaim the faith of the church. Do you reject the devil and all the forces that defy God, the powers of this world that rebel against God, and the ways of sin that draw you from God? Response: We do. With the whole church, let us confess our faith, the faith in which we baptize. People of God, do you believe in God the Father? Yes, I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. Do you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God? Yes, I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit? Yes, I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. The assembly is seated. We give you thanks, God, for in the beginning your Spirit moved over the waters and you created the world by your Word, calling forth life. Send your Holy Spirit into this water and on all who are washed in it, that they may be given new life. To you be given honor and praise through Jesus Christ our Lord, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen. Madeline Laura Whitty, you are baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. 8

Let us pray. Sustain Madeline with the gift of your Holy Spirit: the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord, the spirit of joy in your presence, both now and forever. Amen. Madeline, child of God, you are sealed by the Holy Spirit and marked with the cross of Christ forever. Amen. Madeline, child of God, you are clothed in Christ. All who are baptized into Christ have put on Christ. Amen. Welcome A: Let your light so shine before others that they may see your good works and glorify our Father in heaven. Let us welcome Madeline, the newly baptized. We welcome you into the body of Christ and into the mission we share: join us in giving thanks and praise to God, as we bear God's creative and renewing Word to all the world. Baptismal Song Lord, Be Glorified ELW Hymn 744 *Prayers of the People With the people of God gathered here and throughout the world, we offer our prayers for the church, the world, and all people in need. After each petition: Your mercy is great, Christ our King. Hear our prayers, spoken and silent, that we commend to you this day, trusting in your abundant mercy, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen. *Share the Peace The peace of Christ be with you always. And also with you. The people greet one another with the peace of Christ. 9

Offering Welcome Table Spiritual Adult Choir The assembly responds to the Word of God by gathering an offering for the mission of the church, including the care of those in need. The music is offered as a gift to the glory of God. You may give your offering in the offering plate, or by using a credit or debit card at the Giving Kiosk, or Give by Text (610-981-1312), or through Simply Giving, or by sending it to the church office. The table is set. *Prayer Let us pray. Blessed are you, O God, ruler of heaven and earth. Day by day you shower us with blessings. As you have raised us to new life in Christ, give us glad and generous hearts, ready to praise you and to respond to those in need, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen. Meal *Thanksgiving at the Table ELW setting 3, page 144 10

It is indeed right, our duty and our joy, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks and praise to you, almighty and merciful God, through our Savior Jesus Christ; who on this day overcame death and the grave, and by his glorious resurrection opened to us the way of everlasting life. And so, with all the choirs of angels, with the church on earth and the hosts of heaven, we praise your name and join their unending hymn: Holy, Holy, Holy ELW setting 3, page 144 We bless you, O God, Sovereign of all things, Mighty of all ages. We your people praise your mystery, ever one, always three. O radiant Source of creation, you brought light out of darkness. Planets and stars, plants and animals receive their life from your throne. Apostles, monarchs, parents, children: your dominion enlivens us all. We praise your majestic power, saying, Blessing and glory to you, O God. O Christ Jesus, Ruler and Guide, you call us to follow your path. Your scepter is your hand reaching out to the needy. We bow before you, enthroned on the cross. We laud your supreme mercy, saying, Wisdom and thanks to you, O God. Words of Institution 11

We remember his life of service, his suffering and death, and his rising to eternal life. We acclaim the reign of Christ our King, saying, Honor to you, O God. O Spirit, our supreme Defender, transform this meal into the banquet of life. Gather all the sick and the poor into your palace of safekeeping. Govern the nations with your justice and peace. We plead for your surpassing grace, saying, Power and might to you, O God. O God the Father, you uphold the universe that you create; O God the Son, you are crowned with compassion for all; O God the Spirit, you protect your saints with arms of love. We praise you today, tomorrow, and forever. Amen. *Lord s Prayer Gathered into one by the Holy Spirit, let us pray as Jesus taught us: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and forever. Amen. *Invitation to Communion Hunger no more. Thirst no more. Come to the banquet of life. Amen. 12

Sacrament of Holy Communion All who are baptized and believe in the presence of Jesus Christ in Holy Communion are welcome to receive the Sacrament. To facilitate flow, the ushers invite the side sections, the front few rows and then go to the back rows. The people come forward, using the center aisle, and may kneel or stand at the altar rail. Gluten free wafers are available. Our wine is grape juice so that all may freely receive and is served by common or individual cup. Please return to your seat using the side aisles. Children may receive the sacrament if they have completed instruction with a pastor. Children who do not commune may come forward for a blessing. Communion Songs The assembly sings of the life of the world. Lamb of God ELW setting 3 Soon and Very Soon ELW Hymn 439 You Are Holy ELW Hymn 525 13
