WEDDING BANNS II Caroline Bollinger & Bradley Pienta II Torrie Mason & Andrew Bowser I Barbara Divalla & David Walter LIFE IS CHANGED, NOT ENDED Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord Rosemary Strunje Carl Chmielewski Janice Miceli Ordination to the Priesthood Friday, May 19, 7:00pm, St John Cathedral Deacon James Michael Cosgrove and Deacon Peter Soohyun Bang First Mass of Thanksgiving for Father Peter Bang Saturday, May 20, 6:00pm St John Vianney Church 7575 Bellflower Road, Mentor, Ohio with Reception to follow immediately in the Father Kline Social Center First Mass of Thanksgiving for Father James Cosgrove Sunday, May 21, 12:00Noon St Charles Borromeo Church with Reception to follow immediately in the Corrigan Gymnasium The liturgical calendar designates this as the Fifth Sunday of Easter. But it is also the second Sunday of May and, in our country, this is also Mother s Day. All moms, both the living and the deceased, will be remembered at Mass today. There is a Carnation Sale after Mass. Bring mom a bouquet. James Michael Cosgrove, of St Charles Borromeo Parish, and Peter Soohyun Bang, deacon assigned to St Charles in 2016-2017, will be ordained priests of the Diocese of Cleveland on this Friday, May 19, 7:00pm, at St John Cathedral. Their ordination was originally scheduled for Saturday, May 20, at 10am. However, Bishop Daniel Thomas, currently the administrator of this Diocese, was scheduled for priesthood ordination in Toledo for that same Saturday; the Cleveland ordination was moved to Friday evening. So that all St Charles priests can be present at the ordination Mass for a son of our parish and for the deacon assigned here this year, there will no 7:00pm Mass at St Charles on this Friday, May 19. Father Anselm Zupka, OSB, has been our faithful weekend associate at St Charles since his ordination to the priesthood in 1967. He came to St Charles when the founding pastor, Msgr Monaghan, was still alive. Father Anselm continued his ministry here during Msgr Corrigan s pastorate, 1968 to 1987. It is my pleasure to have served with him since I was appointed pastor in June of 1987. Father Anselm will celebrate his Golden Jubilee on Sunday, May 28, at the 12:00Noon Mass. A reception, in Father Anselm s honor, will follow the Mass. All parishioners are invited to both the Mass and the Reception. I have been asked to say Mass at Holy Cross Cemetery, Brook Park, at 10:00am on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29. If you are planning to attend that Mass, I will need some assistance: a lector, two adult servers and several Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist. If you would be willing to help, give our Parish Office a call sometime this week and I will fill you in on the details (440-884-3030). Parents should decide how their children are to be educated and all parents should receive Ohio tax dollars to help. Please contact your Ohio State Senator and your State Representative and urge them to support Ohio Senate Bill 85. This would expand the current scholarship program currently available in only a few cities to all locations in our state. Legislators respond to their constituents, so send a letter, card, email or make a phone call. Please check this bulletin for further details. Do it today. Give parents a choice for their children s education. It s only fair! Next weekend, there will be survey, in the parish bulletin, with proposed times for our new weekday and weekend Mass schedule. You will also have the opportunity to pencil in your suggestions if the proposed times are not to your liking. Add the time(s) that you think would be best. Return that survey the next week. We hope to have the new schedule in effect by mid-june or by the first weekend of July at the latest. You will find in this bulletin a detailed flyer reminding us that Carnival 2017 is only two months away. Tickets will be mailed this week. Please do the best you can to sell them. Keep that flyer as a reminder of the many fun things planned for our Eighty-fifth Annual Summer Extravaganza!
