It really is a great blessing for Saint Peter Parish that we sponsor a Catholic Elementary School. In fact, Saint Peter School is the last catholic school in the city of Cambridge. The presence of a school brings energy and vitality to our parish life. We are blessed with wonderful people Bernadette Leahy, Principal, Mark Smith, Director of Admissions, a talented and dedicated Faculty, a great Advancement Program led by Karen Trainor, wonderful aides parents and volunteers, and, of course, a great collection of some of the finest boys and girls that I have ever had the pleasure of being associated with. Thank you to all of you who support our school by your prayers and donations. It is a great privilege to share in the moral, spiritual, intellectual and over-all formation of these young people. This Week s Special Collection: Envelopes are at the entrances of the church. We will only pass the basket once so please use special collection envelopes. Our encounter with the Lord through today s Gospel reading inspires us as Christians, to reach out and minister to our neighbors - to become fishers of men. This week s special collection will help Catholic Charities continue to live out this Gospel imperative by caring and providing for the underserved in our communities throughout the Archdiocese. The collection supports families as they struggle to put food on the table, secure child card for their children, and seek out better opportunities through education. Last year alone, Catholic Charities served over 200,000 of your neighbors across the Archdiocese. At Catholic Charities, we strive to help people become self-sufficient. We could not help those in need without your generosity. To make a gift, please use one of the envelopes provided at the doors of the church or visit www.ccab.org to donate online. Any gift, large or small, will be accepted with heartfelt gratitude and used to assist struggling families throughout Greater Boston. Thank you for your generous support Dare to Dream Auction Forever Young Please join our community as we enjoy a valentine themed evening of laughter and fun while raising money for Saint Peter School. From the Pastoral Associate: This coming Lent, St. Peter Parish, will be participating in an enriching opportunity. We will be developing small groups in the program Why Catholic? that will look at the topic of Prayer. We undertook a similar program a few of years ago, the ARISE program, in which over 70 parishioners participated over the course of a year and a half in small groups for 6 week sessions. One of those groups continues to meet today once a month, still continuing to share faith and praying together. The small faith group experience proved rewarding for many of the participants. Here is what one parishioner had to say: I didn t plan to join a small faith group. After all I was attending Mass weekly, putting money in the basket, and trying to have a prayer life. That meant I was being a good Catholic, right? But part of me wanted more from my church. Part of me wished for a deeper connection with the people around me at Mass. Something was missing from my spiritual life. Then I saw the invitations in the St. Peter s bulletin about a six week group called Arise. For some reason I felt called to join, although it did take me a few weeks to decide to sign up. Now several years have gone by, and I am part of a small faith group that developed from that six week commitment. It has enriched my spiritual life and deepened my connections with others at St. Peter s. In the coming weeks we will be publicizing dates and times for new groups forming this Lent. Take some time to think and pray about possibly joining one of these groups. Please watch the bulletin for announcements. Film Viewing and Discussion: Come join us as we view Scenes from a Parish, a documentary film by award-winning filmmaker James Rutenbeck, which chronicles four years in the life of St. Patrick Parish in Lawrence, Massachusetts. This film offers a glimpse into one parish s experience as it explores how to reconcile ideals of faith and the gospel message with the realities of today s changing and diverse culture. The film looks at the stories of the pastor, Fr. Paul O Brien, various parishioners and the building of the Cor Unum Meal Center. A video trailer can be found at http://www.scenesfromaparish.com. Please join us on Sunday, January 29 th from 2-5 p.m. (we will conclude in time for those who wish to attend the 5 p.m. Mass). We will view the film and have opportunity for discussion. Refreshments will be served. So that we can plan the refreshments accordingly kindly RSVP to Anna Molettieri at amolettieri@stpetercamb.org or at 617-547-4235 x17. Do You Know Someone Who Cannot Make it to Mass? We know there are people among us - parishioners, family members, neighbors, and friends - who would like to join us at the Eucharistic table but are prevented from doing so by disability or illness. If you know of anyone who is homebound or otherwise unable to come to Mass, and who would like to receive the Eucharistic, please let us know by calling the parish office @ 617 547-4235 or call Deacon Tim O Donnell or his wife Elke O Donnell @ 617-876-6489 or elke.odonnell@comcast.net and request a Eucharistic minister to bring communion to them.
