Where there is hatred, let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope. Where there is darkness, light. Where there is sadness, joy. O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled, as to console; to be understood, as to understand; to be loved, as to love. For it is in giving that we receive. It is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life. Amen. All Souls Gentle spirit of God, on this special day we remember our departed loved ones who now dwell in your glory. We loved them once with human love; we love them now in prayer and grace. How lovingly you ease our pain and bless the darkness of our grief, promising that naught can separate us from your mercy and unending love. We celebrate your promise, now hidden in mystery, that what we see darkly in our world, will become clear to us in eternity. Amen. Author Francine M. O Connor

November is the month where we devote two days to the memory of the saints and also of those who have died. November 1 st is the feast of ALL SAINTS. All Saints is the first of a two-day celebration of saints and all those who have died. On this day we celebrate the communion of saints, the union of prayer and the love between saints on earth and the saints in heaven. November 2 nd is the feast of ALL SOULS and is the second day of our remembrance of saints. We also pray that one day all people will share the glory of the saints. We offer prayers of intercession for the poor, the hungry, the homeless and the jobless. During the month of November we also ask God to provide enough food for the poor of the world. REMEMBRANCE DAY School will be honouring our special people who passed away with a short celebration on Wednesday, November 11 th at 10:30 a.m. Please reflect on the attached prayer Flanders Fields. Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations Beginning the month of November, we will be giving out monthly student awards to one student in each class. This year we are using the Ontario Catholic Student Graduate Expectations as a guide for each monthly award. There are 7 expectations in all, and the one for November is A Discerning Believer. Each classroom teacher will talk about what it is to be a believer in Jesus and how to live out your faith. Displays of student work and evidence of the expectation in our classes will be posted on the bulletin board outside the main office. Because I am a believer, I will live my life like Jesus. PROGRESS REPORTS REPREPORT Progress reports will be sent home on Tuesday, November 17 th, 2015 for all students. Interviews will be held on Wednesday, November 25 th between 3:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. more information to follow. PICTURE RETAKE DAY The re-take for the School pictures will be taken on November 17 h, 2015. Please remember that you must bring your proofs with you when having your re-take. UNITED WAY The United Way partners with many different community agencies to help those people most in need. To help with our School Board s initiative to raise money for the United Way, we at St. Vincent de Paul also want to find ways to support this worthy cause. Tuesday, November 3 is our Board s Red and White. We are asking each child and staff member to dress in red and white and if possible, make a contribution of a loonie. We will also be raffling a number of gift baskets. The raffle tickets are 25 cents each or 5 for $1.00. The baskets will be displayed from Tuesday, November 3 until the draw on Wednesday, November 10. Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation.

FLANDERS FIELDS In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields
