Why the Bible was Written

Introduction Some Things Jesus Never Had 1. As we discussed this morning Jesus was certainly an unusual person. He was God and man, that is He was both human and divine. A. John said of Jesus: John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. 2. Although Jesus was the Son of God, there are some things He never had. Jesus Never Had an Earthly Home 1. Can you imagine a person not having an earthly home? A. There is not a sweeter word than the word home. 1) It is such a good feeling when one has been away for sometime and to be able to come home. B. It is often said of Jesus that He was alone: Matthew 14:23 And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there. 1) Jesus Himself said: Matthew 8:20 "Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head." 2. Many people have good homes and yet do not appreciate them as they should. Jesus never had a home as we do today. Some Things Jesus Never Had 1

Jesus Never Had an Earthly Father 1. Everyone has an earthly father. A. How sad it is today that many of our young people are being reared without a father in the home. 1) Correction of children is the primary responsibility of the father. Ephesians 6:4 And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord. 2. Jesus did not have an earthly father as everyone has in the world today. A. Jesus was born of a virgin (Isaiah 7:14). Jesus Never Had a Long Life on earth 1. The lives of a lot of people are wiped out at an early age. A. The average life span of men is about 72 years of age. Jesus only lived to be about 33 ½ years old. The Bible refers to Him as being about thirty years of age when He began His ministry and died on the cross three years later. B. Although Jesus lived a short life, He lived a full and busy life. He said: John 17:4 I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do. 2. Jesus did more in His short life here on earth than most of us will ever think about doing. The apostle John wrote: John 21:25 A. Jesus had a short but busy life. 1) Are we doing our part in living our life to its fullest? Some Things Jesus Never Had 2

Jesus Never Had Sin in His Life 1. Jesus never sinned. He lived a life of sinless perfection. A. The Hebrew writer said of Jesus: Hebrews 4:15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. B. Peter wrote: 1 Peter 2:22 Who committed no sin, nor was deceit found in His mouth; C. Paul told the Corinthians that: 2 Corinthians 5:21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. 1) Can you imagine someone living on this earth and never, not once, doing anything sinful? 2. We will sin (Rom 3:23), but we don t have to! A. The more we strive for perfection (Matt 5:48), the less we will sin! Some Things Jesus Never Had 3

Jesus Never Had Any Desire to Get Even 1. There are many today that carry around a grudge, just waiting for the right moment to get even with others. A. Anytime the opportunity presents itself, one cannot wait to get a jab in on some other brother or sister in Christ. How sad this is! 2. Jesus did not ever do this. And we need to be like Jesus. 1 Peter 2:21-23 A. In the book of Isaiah it is written: Isaiah 53:6-7 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, every one, to his own way; and the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed and He was afflicted, yet He opened not His mouth; he was led as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so He opened not His mouth. 1) We would all do so well to follow the example of Jesus. 2) It would be such a great thing if it was said of us that we never had a desire to get even. Some Things Jesus Never Had 4

Jesus Never Had Any Other Disposition than to Obey 1. Jesus said in Matthew 26:42: Thy will be done. A. The Lord s disposition toward His Father was simply, whatever you want me to do, I ll do it! B. The Hebrew writer expressed the words of Jesus this way: Hebrews 10:9 "Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God." 1) This was Jesus purpose in His life here on earth. To even be obedient to the point of death (Phil 2:8). 2. We need to have an attitude as Jesus had - to obey the Father. Conclusion 1. What is your attitude this afternoon? A. Are you ready to obey the words of Jesus? 1) He obeyed His Father s will, Why would we not want to follow His blessed example. Remember Jesus said: Matthew 7:13-14 Matthew 7:21-23 2. Jesus never had an earthly home, an earthly father, a long life, any sin, a desire to get even, or any other disposition except to obey. A. And we can rejoice in the fact that He came to live, die, and be resurrected so that we can have EVERLASTING LIFE with Him when our life on earth is over! Some Things Jesus Never Had 5
