Called to be Servants of Christ in Our Community Niagara United Mennonite Church September 9 th, 2018 Called to be Servants of Christ in Our Community expresses our desire to share our faith and love of Jesus Christ with all we meet. We welcome you and hope that your time with us will be enjoyable and enlightening. Families with children are invited to worship together with us in the service. For children 3 years old or younger who are not able to sit through the church service, there is a nursery downstairs, or a glassed-in room behind the sanctuary where you may sit with your baby and still follow the service. If you feel a sense of belonging, you are most welcome to be with us. Talk to us about how you can participate. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Our Lighthouse program, which is a time of fellowship and learning for those aged 5 years to Grade 8 is held each Sunday during the Worship Service. The children will be called to the front for the Children s Moment and then released after that. Parents may pick up their children in the Education Wing at the end of the service. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ JOYS & CONCERNS: Please continue to pray for: Audrey Epp, Jake Friesen, Susan Kaye, Hank Pauls, Irene Penner, Justine Reimer, and David Steingart, as well as others who may need our prayers. Let us continuously look to our friends, neighbours and community members, remembering to pray for those around us as well. NEXT WEEK: Welcome Sunday will be held on Sunday, September 16. If you have any friends that you may have wanted to invite to church, but have not had the chance, or your friends have been curious about your church, then this is the day to invite them. We will be having coffee and some snacks in the front foyer before the service. The Service itself will be a visitorfriendly service, with a message that suits those who may be new to church. After the service, there is a meal planned for the front foyer and out into the front lawn. Please bring lawn chairs and picnic blankets. Stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks but in the meantime, mark your calendars! We look forward to seeing you there! Sunday, Sept 16 th We are planning lunch in the front foyer and front lawn following the service. The sandwiches and finger foods will be provided. If you would like to bring squares or cookies please make sure they are cut up and ready to eat.

A big THANK YOU to all the incredible volunteers who made this summer's Summer Worship Series possible! To the members of our wonderful Music Committee who work so hard throughout the year and who made the dream of this summer series a reality. Rachael, Ruth and Sue, thank you for all of your work behind the scenes! To Sue Reimer who has worked tirelessly this summer at making sure our church is up to the proper standards for song reporting out of respect for all the artists who have given their hearts and lives to creating the songs we use in our services. To our AV crew who have come in early on Sunday mornings and even on Saturday evenings, changed over between German and English service with lightning speed, and adapted to different groups and their respective needs each week this summer. To our worship leaders for guiding our guests through the order of worship and taking the time to pray over our services.

To the ushers who have opened windows and brought us all water on those super hot Sunday mornings. To the wonderful people who have stepped forward to host our guest musicians overnight or for lunch, and to each one of you who has taken the time to greet our guests and make them feel welcome! This worship series would not have been possible without you and I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart! - Jolien Carter April Michon s last day of service at the church will be September 14 th, as she has accepted full time employment elsewhere. We thank April for her service to the congregation, and wish her God s blessing in her future endeavors. The downstairs nursery is back to full-serve with many wonderful volunteers helping us again this year! All children up to Kindergarten age (5) are welcome. Our nursery is staffed with two volunteers each week and snacks are provided. Our goal is to offer our children a safe, nurturing Christian environment to play and learn in, all while providing parents the comfort and opportunity to pursue their own spiritual enrichment during the Sunday service. Ushers needed! We invite you to consider if you are willing and able to serve as an usher for our 10:45 English service. Our current vacancy is for 3 new ushers. Please kindly contact Harold Neufeld, Chair of the Nominations Committee for more information regarding this role, or to volunteer. Kind thanks for your prayerful consideration. This year s Safe Places Seminar will run on Thurs. Sept. 13 th from 6-8:30 pm. Anyone involved in children/youth ministry again this year who did not attend last year, or who are new to volunteering in these ministries are required to attend this seminar as per Church Council s Safe Places Policy (participation is required at least every two years). This seminar is only offered once this year. Please ensure you are able to attend! Child care will be available from nursery to school aged, so the whole family can come together! Come for the pizza dinner beforehand, and the children will be cared for while parents are in the seminar! The Search Committee has continued to meet over the summer. Our mentor, Dave Brubacher will be away for the month of September and our interim pastor Waldo Pauls has agreed to step in for this time. Currently, we are in conversation with several persons for both the Lead Pastor and the Pastor of Youth and Young Adult Ministries positions. We are hopeful that we will receive two or three MLIs (applications) as a result of these conversations. We trust in the Lord's leading as we continue on and ask for your ongoing prayers for the Search Committee; and for continued prayers for this congregation and for the persons the Holy Spirit is preparing for NUMC.

Lighthouse Fall 2018 - God s Blessing and Care Sept. 23 Jesus acension Luke 24:50-53; Acts 1:1-11 Here are some ways to nurture faith at home based on this week s story. (1) Read Acts 1:3 5. I wonder why Jesus wanted them to stay in Jerusalem. (2) Jesus appeared for forty days, speaking of God s kingdom. Work together to name forty things you know about Jesus! Look in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John if you need help. (3) Find a wide-open place and look up to the clouds. Imagine seeing Jesus being lifted up into a cloud. Prayer for the week: Loving God, fill us with your spirit that we may carry on the work of Jesus. Amen. Upcoming Lessons.
