A Message from Rusty Dear New Day Members and Friends, These are exciting times at New Day. Our attendance has grown dramatically, lives are being transformed into the likeness of Jesus Christ, and New Day is a fun place to belong. But our mission is clear: Jesus called us to make disciples who make disciples. As long as there is one more person we could reach with the Gospel, we have work to do. The verse printed below from Hebrews 12 calls us to throw off everything that hinders so that we can continue running the race marked out for us. One of our biggest hindrances at New Day is the $4.7 million debt on our current facilities. The 20/20 Vision Campaign has been launched to tackle this debt. We believe God wants us to become a Debt-Free Church. The theme was chosen with the hope that we could begin to see with 20/20 Vision what the year 2020 might look like if we were debt free. This is a big challenge. It will require a lot of hard work and sacrifice to become debt free by 2020. But I believe God has brought us together for such a time. Our sacrifice now will set the course of this church on a positive trajectory for years to come and will result in such kingdom advancement that future generations will thank us. If it is God s will for us to become a Debt-Free Church, then God will give us the strength and the resources to accomplish this goal. What could God do through us in the year 2020 and beyond if we were Debt Free? Let s see! In Jesus, Rusty Russell Church s Timeline October 19, 1980 Pastor Barry Cameron became 3rd pastor and preaches his first sermon. July, 1992 Dale Roberts became Senior Pastor replacing Barry Cameron. March, 2002 Forward By Faith Capital Campaign began. It was the largest giving campaign in the history of the church. Sept. 4, 2005 The first service was held in the new building on Peachland Blvd. Jan. 1, 2008 The church s name was officially changed to New Day Christian Church. A new Administrative Pastor and Worship Pastor were added to the staff. Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:1-2 Nov. 3, 1974 New 600 seat sanctuary was completed and dedicated. Upon This Rock Capital Campaign began to raise funds to raise the roof on the existing building and add more space. Church purchased current property on Peachland Blvd. May 22, 2004 Ground breaking on new church property was held. Aug. 13, 2006 July 18, 2010 Pastor Jamie Snyder Pastor Rusty preached his first Russell became sermon as Senior the new Lead Pastor. Pastor replacing Jamie Snyder. Jan. 2013 A new vision statement was created Jesus calls us to make disciples who make disciples, so together we will WORSHIP Jesus with all we have, WORK with Jesus to bring the world to Him and WALK with Jesus and one another in love.
A TIME TO REMEMBER Throughout New Day s 55 year history, God s blessing and direction has always been in time, on time, every time. As we remember our past, we are inspired to move forward together and see what God will do. OUR VISION Throughout its history, New Day Christian Church has had a tremendous impact in the community. However, in 2010, when Rusty began leading the church, he began to paint a new and bolder picture of how our church, fully unleashed and free of debt, could advance God s kingdom like never before. Over the last three years we have reorganized staff, realigned resources and released a new mission for the church... Jesus calls us to make disciples who make disciples, so together we will worship Jesus with all we have, work with Jesus to bring the world to Him and walk with Jesus and one another in love. We have set our hearts to fulfill our mission with greater passion, urgency and effectiveness than ever before! However, in these leaner economic times, dollars going to our debt are hindering our ability to do all we can to advance our calling expeditiously. We have two choices: Pay the bank with interest, or remove our debt and unleash ministry with greater effectiveness. A ripened kingdom harvest awaits us like never before! We believe God is calling us now to leverage all of our resources so we don t miss this opportunity to proclaim the gospel to a generation of people within our reach. Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law. Romans 13:8 WHY GIVE TO 20/20 Every dollar given will go directly to principal reduction. You will help the church A New Church in a New City On August 9th, 1959, the first service of the First Christian Church of Port Charlotte was held in the home of Mrs. Margaret Martin at 314 Crestwood Drive with 19 members present. Brother Eric Dance from First Christian Church of Fort Myers agreed to sponsor the church and invited members from a small group of believers from Punta Gorda who had been worshiping in the Boys and Girls Club to come together into one membership. He knew that if this group could work together and build a church within one year, General Development who had plotted out vast amounts of Charlotte County, would deed the property at Gibraltar and Easy Street to them. Weekly services were held in the home until September when 41 were present. Brother Dance led services. On November 29, 1959 Pastor Harry Thomas accepted the call to pastor this new church. By January of 1960, the congregation had $2511 in the bank, which was matched by First Christian Church of Fort Myers. On January 10, 1960, fifty names were affixed to the church s charter and First Christian Church was incorporated. New Day Christian April 17, 1960 First service was held in new building on Gibraltar and Easy Pastor Thomas retired. February 4, 1968 Pastor Coleman T. Sparrow preached his first sermon at First Christian Church. Address aging facilities and add needed spaces. Your Decision to Give Giving to 20/20 Vision is a very important decision. As you pray about your commitment, here are some things to consider: Recall the blessings God has given you, remembering that everything we have belongs to God and our role is to be a good manager of His resources. Remember the impact that can be made for Christ through your sacrificial. Spreading the Gospel has always required a sacrifice of resources. The more resources we can unleash, the more opportunities we will have to impact the world for Christ. Bear in mind that every, regardless of size, is an important contribution to God s MY PART IN work through our church. Discuss the practical and spiritual implications of your family s participation with all members of your family. Pray to discern what sacrifice God is asking of you in this process. Pray also that God will give the elders and the church 3 Ways to GIVE Everyone is encouraged to give in all three of these ways: staff wisdom and strength as they lead New Day through this debt reduction campaign.
