Dumisani News November, 2018. Dear Friends, I am sure after reading through this letter you will agree with me that 2018 has been a busy and special year for us at Dumisani as many new things are happening. We have just gone past the fourth term and presently the summer school is under way and is having a good attendance from both our students and Christians in and around King William s Town. We are encouraged by the attendances of both the ongoing summer school and the winter school in July 2018. Amidst all the busy schedule we have, the preparations for the 40 th Anniversary in 2019 are at an advanced stage. The Dumisani family is joining me in thanking all of you who have been faithfully praying for us to be able to reach this far. Our heartfelt thanks go to all churches, individuals, organisations, and businesses that support the Dumisani ministry. There are projects that are ongoing through your support. Continue to keep us in your prayers. Thank you very much once more for all the support that you have rendered to Dumisani. To the faculty, staff, and students, I thank you all for the cooperation in service to the Lord through your involvement in different aspects of our ministry. THANK YOU..ENKOSI Wilbert Chipenyu (Acting Principal) The 40th Anniversary Calendars for 2019 are now here! Dumisani is having a birthday in 2019 and so we are starting off with a special 40 th Anniversary Calendar. Make sure that you get yours. Please display them around churches and other places. They are a reminder for a whole year about Dumisani and are a great tool to remind churches that we are here in the Eastern Cape to help the church to educate and train their leaders. Thank you very much to a kind donor who sponsored these calendars and made it possible to have these. Praise the Lord! Mark March 1 st & 2 nd, 2019 for 40 th Anniversary Celebrations lecture, Awards Ceremony Special delegations are being invited to attend on March 1 st and 2 nd Watch for more announcements. Staff Changes at Dumisani: Farewell and God Bless Dr Greg Phillips, our registrar and dean, is leaving us at the end of this academic year to take up a new post at Mukhanyo Theological College in KwaMhlanga, north of Pretoria in Gauteng province. Dr Phillips has been with us at Dumisani for seven years and has taught and facilitated in all levels. Over the last four years, literally every Dumisani student has been into his office to discuss courses and marks etc. He has been most helpful in providing academic counsel and direction. Dr Phillips, we are going to miss you and your wife, Carol, and daughters, Ruth and Hannah. We pray the Lord s richest blessing upon your new position at Mukhanyo and your new home. Dr. Bryson and May Arthur came last year to primarily help us in our current BTh arrangements and to help us complete our existing contract with North-West. Dr. Arthur has also taught in our AMS and helped facilitate in his area for our BTh students. Mrs Arthur has helped teach in our CCF programme and also helped as Development Coordinator. She has also been helping with extra courses when Mrs Whytock took sick and was unable to return. The Arthurs are also planning to serve next at Mukhanyo where Dr. Arthur will oversee their new Hons degree programme and lecture and Mrs Arthur will be involved in support subjects. Thank you for coming and sharing with us at Dumisnai these past two years. May the Lord bless you in this exciting new venture at Mukhanyo! New Adjuncts this past year at Dumisani: Two new adjuncts who taught and facilitated at Dumisani in 2018 have been Rev. Luan Goosen with ZEMA now in East London and Rev. Nikolaas Pienaar at the GKSA (RCSA) also in East London. Brothers, thank you both so much for coming and giving of your time here at Dumisani. You have both been a real help to us and we look forward to seeing more of you! Rev. Steven Choi has been helping out at chapels this year and we are looking forward to his increased involvements with us at Dumisani in 2019 as he will also be lecturing as an adjunct. Rev. Choi is pastoring in Scenery Park and just returned to South Africa after furlough where he was working in missiology in South Korea. Rev Choi was also a missionary in Lesotho before the Eastern Cape.We anticipate welcoming new members to the Dumisani team in 2019 and 2020. July Ist new acting principal and acting vice principal As previously announced, on July 1 st Rev. Wilbert Chipenyu and Rev. Dr. Patrick Diniso became the acting principal and acting vice principal respectfully. We praise God for these brothers and pray the Lord s blessing on them as they take up their new positions of leadership.
Campus Changes over the last few months Slowly by slowly we are tackling the re-development of the campus buildings. The Dumisani Board has decided to remain with our existing campus and as money is donated we will refurbish our campus. We have begun with the male dorm rooms. The Campus Fund for re-development and maintenance of No. 12 has been launched The next update is the launch of our major Campus Fund for re-development of the old house at Number 12 Leopold Street. Our goal is to re-develop this portion of our campus in phases as money becomes available. Plans include a new classroom to sit between 25 and 30; new lavatories for men and women; a new kitchen; and covered walkways to unify the main lecture hall with the new second classroom and lavatories and the new parking area for students at evening classes. A new staff, self-contained flat and entrance is also planned. The total cost is between R600,000 and R700,000. We have about R 185,000 in pledges at the moment for this Campus Fund. We will only undertake these campus projects as funds are donated. A new book will be launched on March 2 nd called Voices of Thanksgiving, Dumisani 1979-2019. All churches, business and individuals who make a donation to our Campus Fund will receive a complimentary copy of this book. It is a coffee-table style book with photos and text. Some Academic news 2018 has seen the CCF and AMS programmes running on four equal terms plus a winter and a summer school. This schedule has proven to be a success and we plan on continuing this new term model in 2019. We also plan on welcoming some visiting lecturers in 2019 for some of these terms. The course for Summer School 2019 will be Cults in Africa and will be taught by Dr. Henk Stoker. We are now down to completing out our last three BTh students from the old BTh contract arrangements with North-West University. In 2019, these remaining students will study through tutorials and virtual distance before a new agreement will begin in 2020,DV. Summer School is happening now: African Church History This month Dr. Jack Whytock is teaching our summer school course a survey of the history of Christianity on the continent of Africa from Cairo to Cape Town and Mombasa to Timbuktu with a special emphasis on the Eastern Cape. It is being very well attended by Dumisani students as well as interested local Christians.
African Pastors; Conference October 2018 Dumisani was delighted once again to be the venue for the African Pastors Conference for the King William s Town area. Attendance reached 74 with many students and local pastors and leaders able to attend and also take advantage of the large book stall which operated. The two main speakers were Pastor Stephen Mfundisi from KwaZulu Natal province and Pastor Nico van Zyl from Kempton Park. Dumisani Library Work The Lord has blessed us with many donations over the last two months from several sources for our library. We estimate that we will catalogue about 200 new entries and withdraw about 25 in November. These new entries are both used and brand new books. We are so very grateful to all who have donated these books to continue to improve our library holdings. Prayer Points 1. Thanksgiving for many blessing over 2018 and praise to the Lord that once again He has guided and directed us through another academic year. We thank the Lord for all who were involved in many ways here at Dumisani teaching, volunteering as maintenance crews and librarians, and we give thanks for Lawrence and his team in 2018. We thank the Lord for each of you! 2. Please pray for plans for the 2019 academic year as new staff will be sought and incorporated into the academic year and as we plan for a new partnership arrangement for the BTh programme in 2020. May the Lord give much wisdom and discernment. 3. Thanks to the Lord for recovery thus far for Mrs Nancy Whytock. Please continue to pray that the Lord may grant a full recovery in His time and that she can return and see all at Dumisani. 4. Pray that the Campus Redevelopment Plan may proceed throughout 2019 and become a real blessing for the future needs of Dumisani and its ministry. 5. Pray for students and staff as they are involved in ministry during the summer break when the college closes after summer school. Praise the LORD. How good it is to sing praises to our God, how pleasant and fitting to praise him! Psalm 147:1
