SERVICE OF WORSHIP IN WITNESS TO THE RESURRECTION OF CHRIST With Praise and Thanks to Almighty God For the Life of ROBERT BOB SAMUEL BURNS JULY 8, 1936 - MAY 1, 2018 Order of Worship 2:00 p.m. May 5, 2018 *Stand if you are able. PRELUDE SENTENCES OF SCRIPTURES John 10:14; Isa. 40:11 Jesus said: I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me. He will feed his flock like a shepherd; he will gather the lambs in his arms, and carry them in his bosom. *HYMN 1 Holy, Holy, Holy nicala GATHERING PRAYER Gather us, Creator God, into this holy sanctuary. Bring to mind in our worship how you lit the day with the sun s light and the midnight with shining stars. Lighten our hearts with the bright beams of the Son of Righteousness risen with healing in his wings, Jesus Christ our Lord. And so preserve us in the doing of your will, that at the last day we may shine as the stars for ever; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. PRAYER FOR FORGIVENESS Let us now ask God to cleanse our hearts, to redeem our memories, and to renew our confidence in the goodness of God. Unison: Loving God, in our pain, we remember with sorrow how we have failed one another and grieved your heart. In your kindness forgive our past iniquities, set us free from guilt, and make us strong to live our lives in love. God of grace and power, send your Holy Spirit among us, that we may hear your promises and know them 1

to be true, and so receive the comfort and peace they bring, through Jesus Christ our Savior. Silence is kept. ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS Rom. 8:34; 2 Cor. 5:17 Hear the good news! Who is in a position to condemn? Only Christ, and Christ died for us, Christ rose for us, Christ reigns in power for us, Christ prays for us. Anyone who is in Christ is a new creation. The old life has gone; a new life has begun. Know that you are forgiven and be at peace. Amen.
