FRCC WEEKLY REMINDER First Reformed Church of Cary, www.caryreformedchurch.org Week of June 17, 2018 O Lord, make us have perpetual love and reverence for your holy Name, for you never fail to help and govern those whom you have set upon the sure foundation of your loving kindness; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Prayers of Joy Thanksgiving and hope: New Prayer Concerns: Please pray for the Reverend Joshua Bode and his family as they embark on a mission to Oman. www.rca.org/bode Continued Prayer Concerns Please pray for the people of Guatemala and the families of those hurt and killed by the Fuego volcano. Please also pray for the people of Hawaii as they deal the volcano on the big island. Please pray for Mandy and the Schafer family. Mandy is moving to her own apartment in Charlotte this week. That s a joy and exciting for her, but it s also stressful for the whole family. Heidi asks for prayers for her friend Patty, Patty s mom and is Duke Hospital for treatment for a pinched nerve next to her spine. Heidi s friend Harold s surgery was successful, but he s still got a way to go and is wearing a heart monitor. Please pray for the Christians being persecuted in the Middle East and Northern Africa. Please pray for the Christian missionaries doing Christ s work in dangerous places all over the world.

Directed Prayer: Pray that Christ will lead us in the direction He would have us go. Pray that we will work in unity and that His will be done. Give thanks for all we have, and who we are. No Weekly Reminder Next Week There will be no Weekly Reminder next week, I ll be out of town with limited internet access. For any prayer requests or announcements please just replay to the Weekly Reminder email.

Consistory News and Notes: June 2018 The January Consistory meeting was held on the 5 th (and remember, all are welcome to observe these meetings). Present: Elders: Dave Pynaker Jeff DeWitt John Ferris Deacons: Mike Shafer Ethel Yarter Clerk: Liz White Contract Minister: Rev. George Van Arnam Excused: Classis Supervisor: Rev. Matt Floding Absent: Deacon Mike Shafer DEVOTIONS: Pastor George led us in a discussion from the Disciplines passage that talked about Jesus family thinking he was not quite right in the head (Mark 3:20-30), followed by a unison prayer. WORSHIP: Pastor George s last Sunday service will be July 22. Lonieta will lead the service on July 29. MISSION: No payments made since January. Needs to be reconciled. PASTORAL CARE: John attended the quarterly meeting of the NC Council of Churches. They are buying a building in Durham. The last Sunday in August there will be a prayer for the schools. CORRESPONDENCE: None OLD BUSINESS: Pastor Search Committee Update. A contract has been extended to Ann Rost and submitted to Classis. The plan is for her to start August 1 and be in town two days a week. She is looking forward to getting to know people. It was decided the search committee not be released until Classis actually approves the hire. Insight Building Use Follow Up. They have met on two Mondays and are very good about cleaning up and returning the area to its original state. They take up a free will offering to give us for the use of the space. That appears to be the way things work in the organization, though we were somewhat reluctant to take it.

NEW BUSINESS: Room Usage/Storage. We need to repurpose some of our space so we can have an area that is friendly to any children who might visit. In order to free up some space, Dave said we would rent space in one of the storage units near the church. The cost would be $85/month for a 10 x 10 unit. Member Directory Update. Pastor Ann will be getting to know the members of the congregation, so the directory needs to be updated. Liz will put the directory out on Sunday and ask people to check their information and note updates as needed. Additionally, members will be asked to provide a photo so she can start to put names and faces together. Future of FRCC. Pastor George feels strongly that he should step completely away from FRCC for at least six months in order to let Ann get established. This is common protocol. Ann will be away September 23 and 30. We need to celebrate Ann on Sunday, August 5 as that will be her first service as pastor. Classis. The meeting will be at Fair Street Reformed Church in Kingston, NY on June 19. John and Jeff said they could go. IN TOUCH LIST/MEMBERSHIPS: Nothing to report. ACTION ITEMS: Pete: Update directory Dave: Find someone to spearhead a celebration for Pastor Ann. NEXT MEETING: There will be no meeting in July, next meeting probably August 14 if Pastor Ann is agreeable. Motion to adjourn was M/S/P Thank you to Liz White, our Clerk, who takes the minutes this report is based on, any mistakes are mine.
