25 November 2018 Christ the King THE HYMN VOLUNTARY ANNOUNCEMENTS Fugue in C Major (The Jig) Diderik Buxtehude -The Assembly will please stand- CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS P. In the name of the Father, and of the X Son, and of the Holy Spirit. C. Amen. P. Let us confess our sins, calling for God's transforming power: Almighty God, Source of life, C. we confess that we have not always allowed your grace to set us free. We fear that we are not good enough. We hear your word of love freely given to us, yet we expect others to earn it. We turn the church inward, rather than moving it outward. Forgive us. Stir us. Reform us to be a church powered by love, willing to speak for what is right, act for what is just, and seek the healing of your whole creation. Amen. P. God hears our cry and sends the Spirit to change and empower us. Our sins are forgiven, God s love is unconditional, and we are raised up as God s people always made new, in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord. C. Amen.
GREETING P. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. C. And also with you. CANTICLE OF PRAISE PRAYER OF THE DAY P. The Lord be with you. C. And also with you. P. Let us pray: Almighty and ever-living God, you anointed your beloved Son to be priest and sovereign forever. Grant that all the people of the earth, now divided by the power of sin, may be united by the glorious and gentle rule of Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C. Amen.
-The Assembly will please sit- FIRST READING: Daniel 7:9-10, 13-14 9 As I watched, thrones were set in place, and an Ancient One took his throne, his clothing was white as snow, and the hair of his head like pure wool; his throne was fiery flames, and its wheels were burning fire. 10 A stream of fire issued and flowed out from his presence. A thousand thousands served him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood attending him. The court sat in judgment, and the books were opened. 13 As I watched in the night visions, I saw one like a human being coming with the clouds of heaven. And he came to the Ancient One and was presented before him. 14 To him was given dominion and glory and kingship, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that shall not pass away, and his kingship is one that shall never be destroyed. Lector: Assembly: The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. CANTICLE - CHRIST JESUS BEING IN THE FORM OF GOD Christ Jesus, being in the form of God, did not cling to his equali ty with God, But emptied himself, taking the form of a slave. Bearing the human likeness, revealed in human shape, He humbled himself, in obedience accepting death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has raised him to the heights And bestowed on him the name a bove all names, That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow in heaven, on earth, and in the depths And every tongue confess to the glory of God the Father that Jesus Christ is Lord. Glory to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forev er. Amen. SECOND READING: Revelation 1:4b-8 4b Grace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven spirits who are before his throne, 5 and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To him who loves us and freed us from our sins by his blood, 6 and made us to be a kingdom, priests serving his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. 7 Look! He is coming with the clouds; every eye will see him, even those who pierced him; and on his account all the tribes of the earth will wail. So it is to be. Amen.
8 I am the Alpha and the Omega, says the Lord God, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty. Lector: The word of the Lord. Assembly: Thanks be to God. THE HYMN -The Assembly will please stand- Please sing verses 1-3 before the Gospel; verses 4-5 after the Gospel. GOSPEL: John 18:33-37 The holy gospel according to John. Glory to you, O Lord. 33 Pilate entered the headquarters again, summoned Jesus, and asked him, Are you the King of the Jews? 34 Jesus answered, Do you ask this on your own, or did others tell you about me? 35 Pilate replied, I am not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests have handed you over to me. What have you done? 36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not from this world. If my kingdom were from this world, my followers would be fighting to keep me from being handed over to the Jews. But as it is, my kingdom is not from here. 37 Pilate asked him, So you are a king? Jesus answered, You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice. The gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ. SERMON -The Assembly will please sit- THE HYMN -The Assembly will please stand- Please refer to the following page.
CREED We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

He comes with clouds descending, Once for favored sinners slain; Thousand thousand saints attending, Swell the triumph of His train: Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! God appears on earth to reign. Every eye shall now behold Him Robed in dreadful majesty; Those who set at naught and sold Him, Pierced and nailed Him to the tree, Deeply wailing, deeply wailing, deeply wailing, Shall the true Messiah see. The dear tokens of His passion Still His dazzling body bears; Cause of endless exultation To His ransomed worshippers; With what rapture, with what rapture, with what rapture Gaze we on those glorious scars! COMMUNION MOTET The King of Love My Shepherd Is William Harris The King of love my shepherd is, whose goodness faileth never; I nothing lack if I am his And he is mine for ever. Where streams of living water flow my ransomed soul he leadeth, And where the verdant pastures grow With food celestial feedeth. Perverse and foolish oft I strayed, but yet in love he sought me, And on his shoulder gently laid, And home rejoicing brought me. In death's dark vale I fear no ill with thee, dear Lord, beside me; Thy rod and staff my comfort still, Thy cross before to guide me. Thou spread'st a table in my sight; Thy unction grace bestoweth; and O what transport of delight from thy pure chalice floweth! And so through all the length of days Thy goodness faileth never: Good shepherd, may I sing thy praise within thy house for ever. -The Assembly will please stand-

Our current constitution was drawn up in the early 90 s to comply with the institution of the ELCA. As of 2016 the base constitution for ELCA congregations was revised and we have done our best to comply. So much so, that the Delaware-Maryland Synod has approved our revisions. We now offer you an opportunity to review the constitution and make any comments you deem necessary. Council members will be on hand in the chapel today at 12:30 PM. We will vote to adopt the Constitution as revised at our meeting of the congregation on 9 December. Thanks! Cookies make the world a better place!
