Providing Support and Leadership for the Catholic Charismatic Renewal Volume 46 Number 6 SCRC SPIRIT Southern California Renewal Communities November / December 2018 Don t Jump Ship; the Church Will Stay Afloat by Fr. John H. Hampsch, CMF I have a word not mine, God s word for Catholics who are contemplating leaving our scandal-scourged Church and for all those already sadly fallenaway. Today Jesus is asking each of us in the barque of Peter what he asked his terrified disciples in their storm-lashed dinghy: where is your faith? (Luke 8:25). Truly sincere and loyal Catholics would never choose to become formal heretics by apostatizing from the Catholic Church (canon 751), even amidst horrendous scandals like those of past centuries, far worse than the present ones. Like Joshua (24:15), they choose the path of fidelity to God s established plan, in spite of anything. Less committed Catholics forget that the Church is always holy churchmen, not always. Do you and your family members regard yourself as truly fellow citizens with God s people and members of his household (Eph. 2:19)? Then keep in mind Paul s words that God s household is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of truth (1 Tim. 3:15) that is, a source of doctrinal security. Its truth endures, in spite of Judases, and even delinquent popes, like the first pope, who denied Christ three times, and was later reprimanded by Paul for his social hypocrisy (Gal. 2:14). Just think: All of the first bishops, except John, failed to be present at Christ s torturous scourging and redemptive death, even though he had just ordained them a few hours earlier and gifted them with the Bread of life. Quoting Zechariah, Jesus had prophesied that very defection of his disciples: Strike the shepherd and the sheep will scatter (Mark 14:27). Jesus flock includes some Judases, but also many sin-weakened, devilduped souls; the consecrated ones are Satan s primary targets. For all you heroic souls who vow never to scatter by leaving the Church, you will find your peace in the words of Jesus, its Founder: The powers of hell will not overcome it (Matt. 16:18) though hell s powers may come horrendously close to that unthinkable state! Rest assured of the divine promise that ultimately God s triumph trophy will be a most holy and all-embracing sinless Church (Rev. 21:27) lightyears beyond the most extravagant imagination. Consider Peter s words: If you suffer as a Christian praise God that you bear that name. For it is time for judgment to begin with God s household [the Church]; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not obey the gospel of God? (1 Pet. 4:16-17). To obey the Gospel implies heeding the words of Jesus--for his sheep listen to his voice (John 10:27) and also the voice of his Church, for whoever listens to you listens to me (Luke 10:16). For those who renounce the Church his indictment is rigorous: Those who refuse to listen even to the Church, treat them as you would a pagan (Matt. 18:17). God s battered ship is wildly listing now, as it often has in past centuries, but Jesus promises it will always stay afloat to the end of the age (Matt. 28:20). Please, for love of God, don t jump ship! You ll regret it most lifeboats have no oars!

2018 SCRC Convention Prophecies My beloved, I welcome you with open arms. I long to reach into your heart. Come as you are. Come with all your simpleness, failures and struggles. Bring to me all your fiery trials and brokeness. I restore broken lives. Be still in my presence. I will burn all impurities in your heart with my holy fire. l will make you a new creation. Come as you are. Beloved, my holy spirit is present here with you. Your praise and worship delights my heart and I am pouring my love out to you. Invite me into your heart, anew and I will set it on fire. My children, I am the good shepherd. Walk in my footsteps. Let me give you my love. Let me give you my peace. Let me lift you up and guide you safely home. Arise, my beloved. Now is the time to flourish! A time to live life fully, powerfully and abundantly. If you are lost, come to me. I will show you things that your eyes cannot see. If you are thirsty, streams of living water will flow over you. If you are afraid and discouraged, I am the shepherd that guard and protect you. I will strengthen you. Walk with me and follow me. I will teach you like my disciples. Take time to listen. You will hear my voice. Let faith hope and arise to let my spirit bring new life in you. Oh my people! Come here, forth! Come and accept my love for you. I long to put my arms around you and just whisper to your heart that I love you. That I love you deeply. I love you without condition. My people, receive my love. Receive my peace. Receive my joy. Enjoy my love. Keep it in your heart. Bring it to your family. Bring it to your friends. Bring it to the entire world. My people, enjoy my love but share it to others. Beloved, I look at my bride and she has lost her splendor. She has stained her garment. She has fallen into a tomb of darkness and I weep for my bride. But I will call her out of that tomb of darkness and I will call you to unbind her. Then I will gaze on my bride with her new splendor and her new beauty. My beloved, I have given you a new life. You now have a new heart full of love, mercy and forgiveness. Whatever I give you this weekend, give it away to your brothers and sisters. Let your giving flow from your heart. Rest assured, you will receive more than you give. Go in peace. Freely give, freely you receive. My people, as you go home today bring my light to where there is darkness. I will preserve my church and I will heal your land. Do not be afraid for I am with you. I will give you the zeal of my Spirit and you will overcome darkness. The Light will overcome darkness for I am with you. Go in peace.
