Page 4 St. Florian Parish 4 th Sunday of Easter Dear Friends in Christ, Archdiocese of Chicago May 201 4 Mother s Day is a day to honor the special women mothers, grandmothers, aunts, friends who have fed, nurtured, loved and shaped us into the people we are today. It is through their unconditional love that we begin to understand the depth of Christ s love for us, and his command to share that love with one another. Mother s Day is therefore an appropriate day to support a critical mission of the Church: the care of the poor and vulnerable. By participating in the Catholic Charities Mother s Day Collection, each one of us has the opportunity to share Christ s love with those who are hungry, homeless, hurting and in need of help. We are greatly blessed in the Archdiocese of Chicago to have an extraordinary social-service agency like Catholic Charities to help us fulfill Jesus command to care for those in need. As we share our resources with the poor and vulnerable, we not only allow God to bless others through us, but we are blessed as well. The poor teach us the virtues of tolerance, meekness and patience. God comes to us cloaked in poverty. It is through our connection to the poor that we encounter the suffering Christ and so humble ourselves and truly open our hearts to his tremendous grace and mercy. I thank you for your past support, and I invite you to again join me in making a contribution to the Catholic Charities Mother s Day Collection. Your gift will help serve more than one million people of all ages, races and religions in Cook and Lake Counties, including one out of every three citizens of the City of Chicago. May God bless you and your families. You and those you love are in my prayers; please keep me in yours. Sincerely yours in Christ, Francis Cardinal George, O.M.I. Archbishop of Chicago St. Florian School Happenings... visit us at www.stflorianschool.org Mission Statement of St. Florian School Our mission is to provide each student with a Catholic education in all areas. The faculty and school families join the parish staff and fellow parishioners to form a living Catholic faith community. Our school population is multicultural and fosters sensitivity to the needs of all. We promote the students' burning desire for learning. Through education, service, support, formation and challenge, the students are called to realize their potential spiritually, socially, and intellectually. For one hundred years our school has been committed to carry out the Gospel values of Jesus Christ on a daily basis. The Women s Centers of Greater Chicagoland Baby Bottle Project Beginning April 20, 201 4, our church will be participating in the Baby Bottle Project benefitting the Women s Centers of Greater Chicagoland. This nonprofit organization directly assists mothers and families experiencing crisis pregnancies by offering emotional, financial, material, and spiritual support through counseling, clothing & monetary provisions, prayer and other aid. Each year the three locations together have over 5,000 appointments with expecting mothers. By God s Grace, the Women s Centers have saved over 36,000 babies and their mothers from abortion since opening in 1 984. Please take a Baby Bottle home with you on APRIL 20, fill it with your spare change, and return it the weekend of MAY 11. This is a simple, but crucial fundraising effort for the Women s Centers. Please note the Baby Bottles cost almost $1.00 per bottle and are recycled afterwards so please return upon completion of the project. Thank you for helping defend life, and remember to keep all pro-life undertakings in your prayers. For All Mothers That God will bless them with grateful and affectionate children, for the countless daily sacrifices they make for their families; We pray to the Lord.

Through Jesus, God acts in a human manner and humans can see God in the Christ born for that purpose. Therefore, "who sees me, sees the Father." Jesus reveals that he is the way, the truth, and the life that opens us to the Father's presence. Jesus is also the corner-, the living-, and the key-stone on which we are thrust and by which we are held in place. In him, we are called out of the darkness and into wonderful light, the light of God's presence. Text, Philip J. Sandstrom 2001, OCP. All rights reserved.

Page 6 St. Florian Parish 4 th Sunday of Easter Raising Faith Filled Kids One Word at a Time Criando hijos creyentes una palabra a la vez Bless A man I know makes a habit of blessing his two sons whenever they leave or return home, even now as they tower above him. If he forgets, they remind him to trace the Sign of the Cross on their foreheads. A woman I know tucks a note of blessing into her children s lunchbags. Her children cherish these reminders of her love. We all could use a blessing every day. Carrying a parent s blessing into the world can help a child feel confident enough to overcome challenges, loved enough to resist temptations, and encouraged enough to make the most of opportunities. So bless your children daily with positive and caring words and gestures.
