Kingdom Kids Nursery (1-3 yrs) KidCheck account required. The Nursery is offered during the 10:00 a.m. Mass for children ages 1-3 years old. The nurturing staff and volunteers provide a safe, Christian environment for the children in their care. Parents who utilize the nursery are asked to volunteer about one Sunday per month to keep our Co-Op Nursery staffed each Sunday. We are still seeking volunteers to help at the 10 AM and 2 PM Nursery (must be Virtus trained). Kingdom Kids Worship (1 st -5 th Grades) Kingdom Kids Worship provides a liturgical adaptation of the Sunday readings for children in 1 st -5 th grade. The Children Celebrate! Liturgy of the Word with Children program guides the parish catechists proclamation of the Gospel. At OLMC, Kingdom Kids Worship is available at the 10:00am Mass on the first, second and third Sunday of the month. Children process out at Mass & return before the Eucharist. Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Level I CGS is a religious faith formation developed by Montessori Educators for children ages 3 through 6 (LEVEL I). It does not use a catechetical series of books or a regular classroom. It takes place in an atrium (with materials appropriate to their ages and sizes). The intention of CGS is to help the child grow in his/ her relationship with God and get to know Him through contact with Scripture and the liturgy of the Church. Parents of children who are registered in the pilot group need to make an appointment with their Catechist for a short parent orientation and a meeting and a one-on-one session for the children and catechists. God Rocks High School Retreat The God Rocks Retreat is an annual OLMC tradition and is a retreat run for the youth by the youth. We have fun together, pray together, learn together, and grow closer to God together. Don't miss out! It s a great way to prepare for Christmas! Registrations are available in hard copy in the Church Commons and online at seekingmeaning.weebly.com Theme: God Rocks the Relentless Who: All those in 9 th -12 th grade. When: December 14, 15, & 16. The retreat will begin at 5:30pm on Friday and end by 12pm on Sunday. Where: Williamsburg Christian Retreat Center Cost: $80. Scholarships are available. Registration is due by December 6 to guarantee a T-shirt! DYC It's not too late to register for the annual Diocesan Youth Conference (DYC)! This is a fantastic retreat that brings High School teens from all over Virginia together for fun, fellowship and worship. Early bird registration (which implies a DISCOUNT) is Monday, December 17 th, at noon. It's only $170 if you register by then (this includes travel costs and lunch on Sunday). Youth Ministry Outdoor Venture The youth minister, Ken White, and the pastoral year seminarian, Kevin Reidel, are teaming up to lead a hike at Old Rag Mountain for anyone in High School. Cost is $5 (for transportation). We ll leave on Saturday, November 24 th, at 10am and will return by midnight on the same day. Page 7 November 18, 2018 K of C Corner Liturgical Ministries The Knights of Columbus was founded to protect Catholic widows and children in 1882. Today it still does that and it does a whole lot more. Examples in OLMC are easy to find, if you know where to look, like OLMC School s Auction fund raiser, Teacher Excellence Fund, Tuition Assistance and school repairs. You can also see the Knight s support at work in the OLMC Food Pantry, supporting the Capital Campaign Pledge, Weekly Bulletin underwriting and financially supporting youth activities such as the Steubenville Conference and OLMC s BSA Pack 242. The Knight s and their families are involved in almost every aspect of the OLMC s parish life and have been for over 50 years. It's been reported by the major news organizations and other mass media outlets that the newer generations do not join fraternal organizations like the older generations did. This may or may not be true, but a lot of the Knights feel like their Councils are actually another vital ministry within their Parishes. Visit kofc5480.org, kofc.org or kofc.org/joinus to learn more Linen Ministry Help Needed These ministers clean and press the altar linens and purificators used each week in our liturgies. This is an invisible, yet essential, ministry. The cloths used at the altar in the Eucharistic celebration are to be treated with the care and respect due to those items being used in the preparation and celebration of the sacred mysteries. Accordingly, guidelines are provided for their cleaning. This ministry is time-flexible and is performed at home; ideally this would be on a 6-8 week rotation. Please contact Julie Hill at jhill@olmc-school.com. Sacristans Needed Sacristans work behind the scenes. They prepare the worship spaces for the celebration of the sacraments each week by polishing, light cleaning, and watering plants. Sacristans can expect to work for 1-2 hours, every four to six weeks. They are usually able to work on a day that fits their schedule, daytime or evening, on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday. Our Lady of Mount Carmel School enjoyed a "Bring Your Service Member to School" military appreciation event on November 8 th. The morning event concluded with a special announcement and presentation from Mr. Dan Dunham, the Military & Family Specialist from the Virginia Department of Education. Mr. Dunham presented Our Lady of Mount Carmel School with the Purple Star Designation signifying that OLMC has been recognized as being a military-friendly school. OLMC School is one of only three private schools in the state of Virginia to be awarded this designation. We are honored with this great opportunity for our school to continue to serve not only military families, but ALL families seeking a Christ-centered education at OLMC!
