Open hours are listed at the back of chapel. Meet the Friars Bro. David Wagner, ofm conv. Hi! I am Brother David Wagner, son of Joseph and Eleanor Wagner and third oldest of seven children raised in Mchenry Il. I entered the Conventual Franciscan Friars of St Bonaventure Province in the late 60 s. At that time, Love not War, Peace, Flower Power, etc. influenced the secular scene. I too was somewhat controlled by its hold, even though I felt a calling to the Consecrated Life at the same time. It was very difficult to completely detach oneself from the lure of this generation s attractions. Before I entered the Order I already owned my own 48 P ontiac car, purchased my own clothes, held down two part-time jobs, and attended Catholic school full time and paid for my own education (Catholic H.S.). I especially enjoyed dances on the weekends. Long hair, pork chop sideburns, mustache and beard, elephant bell bottom trousers, maddress shirt, were my trademark Just like many others my age. It took me a number of years to truly break free of this nagging attachment. Even today my taste in music preference still swirl around the rhythms of Peter, Paul, and Mary, Judy Collins, Simon and Garfunkel, Jefferson Airplane and similar vocal artists. Many years have passed and many unexpected experiences have come and gone while in the Franciscan Order. Apostolates included ten years of Junior High teaching, Associate Parish Minister, Assistant Formation Director, Marytown gift shop management, Parish Choir Director, Cook, etc. I have likewise been assigned to many of the Friaries (including a Parish and a Catholic high school in California) within the jurisdiction of the Province; more important, I have worked alongside a sizeable Number of Friars during this time, both the good and the challenging. All have served in a greater or lesser degree to my spiritual development. Each environment, along with my current physical challenges, continue to nudge my tail dragging growth in the Spirit. I have come to a greater appreciation of the sick and aging Friars I have lived with; especially the prayerful silence they exhibit in their long and patient bearing of the cross. Presently, I am trying to function with an incurable hernia (four Surgeries without lasting results. I also try to cope with an incurable malady called Essential Tremor resulting in My case with the uncontrollable shaking of my neck and head. I share this with you, not for your sympathy, but preferably for your prayers and understanding. My current hobby is working on a cactus and succulent garden I have set up on the 3rd floor of the Marytown Friary (includes many other plant types as well). My ministry at Marytown: 1.) Weekly Selecting and typing up the liturgical schedule, 2.) Leading morning chant on Sundays, 3.) Organize and type liturgical ministry assignments monthly, 4.) Weekly intoning Morning Prayer hymn and canticle and 5.) Weekly recording Mass intentions.

From 1933 to the beginning of the war in 1939 the persecution of the Jews in Germany was based on intimidation, confiscating their assets and property and coercing them to emigrate. After the invasion of Poland which had a Jewish population of 3.5 million and the Nazis desire for more living space, there grew a need to find another Solution, for confiscation of their assets and coercing Jews to emigrate was no longer a viable solution. Therefore, Jews began to be rounded up and placed in ghettos where they were then transported to extermination camps with the intention to annihilate the entire Jewish population. As the Nazi conquest of Eastern and Western Europe grew so did the number of Jews who were being sent to Concentration camps. The Nazis believed that with the conquest of Europe The Final Solution at hand in the beginning months of the war, the next phase was to exterminate all and anyone who were not racially pure and of Nazi ideology and this was primarily directed against the Jews. The Jews were transported by train car from all over Europe. As they were being rounded up into the cars people would watch from behind the curtains in their homes. Of course they were watching. One could see the curtains moving and it was impossible not to notice thousands of people being rounded up and forced into cattle cars. One of the trains had written inside in pencil on it by one of the Jews, Here in this carload, I am Eve with my son Abel. If you see my other son Cain, son of man tell him I... Prayer Heavenly Father, may I be a Good Samaritan to whoever I find hurting on the side of the road no matter their color, creed or race for all are made in your image and likeness. Questions and meditations : 1. How do we feel towards people of another race or color? 2. How do we feel towards people of another religion or creed? 3. Who is being rounded up today and persecuted? 4. Who is my mother, brother and sister? 5. Do I ever watch from behind the curtains? 6. How can I be an instrument for good?
