DECEMBER 10, 2017 SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT FAITH, HOPE, LOVE. AND YOU.

THE WORSHIP OF GOD DECEMBER 10, 2017 Chimes of the Trinity Preparing for Worship Let me hear what God the LORD will speak, for He will speak peace to His people, to His faithful, to those who turn to Him in their hearts. Psalm 85:8, NRSV Prelude Good Christian Friends, Rejoice...arr. Cynthia Dobrinski HBBC Handbells Tyler Ingram, Director Welcome to Worship David Hailey Lighting of the advent candle of hope Jon and Ginny Lanier and their children Choral Introit Peace, Hope, Light, Love...John Purifoy Chancel Choir Responsive litany Leader: God, You spoke to the exiles through Your prophet, Jeremiah. People: For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope. Leader: We place our hope in You, God, in Your promises to rescue Your people out of darkness and into Your glorious light. People: I will let you find me, says the Lord, and I will bring you back to the place from which I sent you into exile. Leader: In this Advent season we remember that we are Easter children, heirs of Your grace through Christ s resurrection, when He realized the hopes of all exiles everywhere. People: Today we imagine Your future reign in which all the hopes of Your people are made manifest as we gather in Your presence. Leader: God, we also hope You will inspire us to hasten that day by sharing with us Your compassion for Your children. People: Help us realize the hopes of the poor, the outcast, the suffering and the oppressed. Leader: Help us imagine and participate in Your perfect will for all Your Creation. ALL: Help us to be people filled with Your hope. AMEN.

Today the second candle is lit representing hope. Some call this the Bethlehem candle symbolizing Christ s manger. Many Christians celebrate Advent, not only by thanking God for Christ s first coming to earth as a baby, but also for His presence among us today through the Holy Spirit and in preparation and anticipation for His final coming at the end of time. For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him may not perish, but may have eternal life. (John 3:16)

UPCOMING EVENTS CHRISTMAS MISSIONS OFFERING Please be part of showing the world Jesus through our Christmas Missions offering this year. Through a year of challenges, our church has consistently given to meet needs in our community and beyond. The Christmas Missions offering is another opportunity to bless the world through giving. Give by using one of the Christmas Missions Offering envelopes found in the pew pads or around the church, or by going to www.hbbc.org/give and choosing the fund you would like to apply your gift to. Help us reach our goal of $25,000. So far, HBBC has given $4,405 to the Christmas Missions Offering this year.
