August 6, 2017 11:00 a.m. We welcome you to worship with us this morning, as we gather in community to draw closer to God, made known in Christ. We pray you will know the presence of the Lord, through our worship, and through the work of the Spirit. We invite you to take these moments before worship to calm your hearts and minds and open yourself to the quiet stillness of the presence of God! GOD GATHERS THE PEOPLE Prelude Sandra Perkins & Gail Rollings Chiming of the Hour Welcome & Announcements Passing of the Peace Mary Kay Schroeter Rev. Jason N. Cashing Sharing of Joys/Concerns

Call to Worship One: Anyone who thirsts, come and drink! All: Any who are hungry, come and be fed! One: God meets us in our greatest need; All: God satisfies us with divine presence and provision. One: In gratitude, let us worship God. All: With thankful hearts, let us praise our Lord! *Opening Hymn #1 Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty! Prayer of Confession (in unison) God of compassion, we are sick. We have wrestled all night with worry instead of resting in you. We have asserted our own goodness instead of awakening to yours. We have turned away those hungry for your help instead of trusting you, and feeding them from your limitless supply of blessings. Forgive us, heal us, and help us to hold on to you. We call upon you, for you will answer us, O God, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (A Moment of Silent Confession) Promise of God s Forgiveness One: Hear the good news of the gospel: All: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven, healed, and made whole. One: Know that we have been forgiven, and be at peace! All: The mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting. Amen! *Congregational Response (Hymn #581) The Giving of Our Tithes, Gifts, & Selves to God - Offertory Congregational Response (Hymn #606) *Prayer of Dedication WE ENCOUNTER GOD S WORD Time for Children Junior Sermon Valerie Harsh Children ages 3 1 st Grade are invited to Junior Church after the Anthem; Worship Boards are on the front pew for older youth. Prayer for Illumination (unison) Gracious Lord, open our hearts and minds by the power of your Holy Spirit, that we may hear your word with joy. Amen. Scripture 1 st Reading: John 17:1-5 p879 2 nd Reading: Revelation 4:1-11 p997 Sermon The Beginning of the End Rev. Jason N. Cashing *Reflective Hymn #511 Come, Behold! the Feast of Heaven WE RESPOND TO GOD S WORD Affirmation of Faith Almighty God, who raised Jesus Christ from the dead and set him above all rule and authority, has given to him all power in heaven and on earth, not only in this age but also in the age to come. God has put all things under the Lordship of Jesus Christ and has made Christ Head of the Church, which is his body. The Church s life and mission are a joyful participation in Christ s ongoing life and work. Christ calls the Church into being, giving it all that is necessary for its mission in the world, for its sanctification, and for its service to God. Christ is present with the Church in both Spirit and Word. Christ alone rules, calls, teaches, and uses the Church as he wills. Amen. [from The PC(USA) Book of Order] SACRAMENT OF HOLY COMMUNION [Insert] Prayers of the People & Lord s Prayer One: Lord, in your mercy, All: Hear our prayers. *Departing Hymn #643 Now Thank We All Our God *Blessing One: We have been blessed! All: We have met for divine worship, as God s people. One: We have been blessed! All: Our sins have truly been forgiven. One: We have been blessed! All: We go out into the world as the body of Christ, bearing the good news of the gospel. We are blessed, indeed. Amen!
