First United Methodist Church Clover, SC www.cloverfumc.com June 2018 From the Pastor Summer and Conference ~ June kicks off for me, the beginning of Summer. It also means I begin it with the SC Annual Conference. Somehow that seems like a letdown. I do enjoy each year the worship services, discussing the business of the church, the celebration of ministries and the fellowship with people from all over the state. This year, we will again be at the TD Center in Greenville, SC and gather around a host of conversations. Mission: We, the congregation, in humble and selfless service to God, will go forth joyfully, empowered and enabled by the Holy Spirit, to seek out, welcome, accept, and nurture persons to become faithful and effective disciples for Jesus Christ. We will again celebrate the Ordination of New Ministers, celebrate the 40 th year of Salkehatchie, Send off our Retired Pastors to Glory, Celebrate a host of missions and ministries throughout the state, get updated on ministry progress and then debate our positions on a variety of topics. I have been impressed in years past with the civility of such a large group of Methodist in the way they listen to one another, agree to disagree and then vote. Our Bishop, Jonathan Holston is very good at keeping us in order and leading us with strength and with loving focus. We have three delegates joining us to the conference in addition to Meg and I and we will do our very best to represent you all during our time. A few groups in the church have sent offerings that I know of 1) Missions sent an offering for $250 to Health Kits that will be assembled during the Conference and 2) the UMM sent $200 toward the Strength for Service Offering (Devotionals to those serving in the Military and Public Service). FUMC, Clover did receive again this year the Bishop s Five Star Award and we will celebrate this on Tuesday Morning of the Conference. If you have never been to the SC Annual Conference, feel free to load up the car and come on over the Greenville. The Conference will be held 3 rd -6 th from Sunrise to Late Evening each night is always open for anyone to attend. You, of course, will not have a vote at the conference, but you are welcome to sit in on the meetings and join us for worship and service.

From the Pastor, continued For a full schedule of the conference and further info you may go to http://www.umcsc.org/ home/resources/2018-annual-conference/ Please pray for us as we gather and represent the work of the United Methodist Church in South Carolina and share our ministries here in Clover. Joy and Peace ~ Rev. Tommy Wilkes PS: We are so thankful to also be returning to First UMC, Clover for another year. Clover is a special place and it is a privilege to serve in this place. Camp Meeting in July ~ we will have the services in a camp meeting style and encourage the congregation to come casual and bring a friend. Please Remember the Youth of FUMC on their retreats (Sr. High the first Weekend in June, Jr. High the Second Weekend) and the Bishopville Salkehatchie Camp where several of our youth and leaders will be attending on June 23-30 th. We covet your prayers! Celebrations in May On May 13th, Mother s Day, we dedicated: Communion Banner: The Green Communion Banner is presented this morning to the glory of God and in loving memory of Betty Cox by Mel Smith, Steve Smith, Rick Smith, Richard Cox and various memorials given in her memory. Baptism Banner: Remembering her love of the church and her strong belief that others should join her here regularly, this banner is given to the glory of God and in loving memory of Betsy Adams by her family. NRSV Pew Bibles: The new pew Bibles are given to the glory of God and in loving memory of Elsie Adams. The family wishes to express their appreciation for the memorials given to the church in memory of our mother, Elsie Adams. Blessings to all. And 3) we were able to install the power amp for our sound system, new speakers and wiring in the sanctuary and place the board in a fixed cabinet in the balcony. We are now evaluating if we need to install the speakers in the balcony, but have them available if needed. Please give us your feedback on this if you worship in the balcony. Thanks so much to Joe Miller, Sam Jackson, RH Congregational Development and those who donated for this effort. We could not have done this without you. Welcome New Members ~ 2018 Confirmands, Reid Amrhein, Elizabeth McAllister & Rachel Reavis
