Landin Liturgical Worship, 8:15 a.m Blended Worship, 10:45 a.m. Sunday School 9:30 a.m. Communion, First Sunday of the month FEBRUARY 2017 Greetings St. Andrew Lutherans! I thank God daily for you and for the privilege it is to be your pastor. I am thankful for the gift it is to be able to gather together each week to worship our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as a part of his body. Today, what is currently on my mind is the ever-growing issue of divisiveness and disunity in our world today. We see it everywhere! We see it on the news. We see it in our families. We see it among friends. We even see it in the church. However, when we gather together for worship, our faith in Christ and our desire to lift up his name and glorify Him above all others, is what unifies us. That s why I am often reminded of Psalm 133 on Sunday mornings. It is a psalm about the unity of God s people. The psalmist wrote, How good and pleasant it is when God s people live together in unity (Ps. 133:1)! The unity that we experience as the church should not be hidden inside the walls of St. Andrew. We live in a world that has been, and continues to be, fractured by so many different issues. We witness that division and disunity everywhere we look. In his Sermon on the Mount, Jesus said, Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God (Mt. 5:9). That calling, to be a peacemaker, is placed on all of us who have been saved by the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ. Currently, our nation has been hit by the latest hot-button divisive topic, which is President Trump s recent executive order regarding immigration. Although I have seen Christians make good arguments both against and in favor of it, I have also seen Christians on both sides of the argument participating in the mudslinging that the rest of the world always seems to enjoy. I want to encourage you, no matter what side of this specific issue you are on, to avoid that ungodly and unproductive activity. Instead of further dividing the church and our nation, seek to be a peacemaker. Seek to share the love of Christ with those around you, rather than joining them in their sin. Let us display the unity that God has called us to display and be bearers of God s peace to all we interact with today and throughout the coming month. Grace and Peace, Pastor Dan <><

Thank you for the lovely altar flowers in November and the beautiful Christmas poinsettia. It is still lovely and it really brightens our room. God Bless and A Happy, Joyous New Year to you all, Joan K. Snyder Thank you all for the prayers, cards and encouraging words to me and Jeff's family during this time of loss. The outpouring of love from my St. Andrew family has been a very precious gift and blessing from God. This year, our church is putting together our own Lent devotional, written by us, for our congregation to use throughout Lent. Pastor Dan is inviting you to sign up for a day. The sign up sheet is on the window sill in the narthex. Write a one paragraph reflection on the scripture for that day, and write a prayer or pick a prayer emphasis for that day in Lent. All spots need to be filled and all reflections submitted by Sunday, February 19 so that the devotional can be put together in time for Ash Wednesday. PRINTED LESSON SHEETS ARE BACK Beginning January 29th, printed lector sheets will be included once again in our weekly bulletins, as many have requested. You will still need to refer to the video screen for the Psalm (Introit) responses, as this sheet isn t like our previous one. Other differences are: The Prayer of the Day is called The Collect, the First Lesson is referred to as the Old Testament reading and the Second Lesson is the Epistle. It uses the English Standard Version translation, the translation Pastor Dan preaches from. February Outreach is Shepherd of the Streets: United Churches began this ministry on April 1, 1988 to provide spiritual and material help to those on the streets, confronting fear, hunger, homelessness, un-employability or other difficulties. Through the Shepherd Ministry the churches of Lycoming County are able to assist people who need hope and peace in the midst of poverty and need and advocate with local agencies, law enforcement and correctional agencies. Shrove Tuesday Sauerkraut/Meatloaf Dinner: The annual sauerkraut/meatloaf dinner prepared by the Gruvers will be held Shrove Tuesday, February 28th, 6:00 p.m., in the parish hall. Please join your St. Andrew family for a delicious meal and great fellowship time. A freewill offering will help defray costs. A sign-up sheet will be on the windowsill in the Narthex.
