The Trinity Truth November 2018 T H E Y E A R E N D Inside this issue: Giving Tuesday 2 Scrub Buckets 2 Free Bikes 2 LWML Fall 3 Celebration OCC Shoeboxes 4 Extended Hands 4 Birthdays and 5 Anniversaries Calendar 6 Cookie Walk 7 Thanksgiving 7 Dinner with Friends Christmas Brunch 8 Sunday Servants 9 Outreach Team 9 We won t be changing our regular calendars for another month, as 2018 gives way to 2019. But beginning in December we start a brand new church year. It has often been said that no one likes change except a baby with a messy diaper. Yet, if we think about this coming change some wonderful things begin to emerge. As when we change our annual calendars, a new church year can signal a brand new beginning. The past is behind us, and a whole new year is just ahead. Things we would like to change, new things we would like to try, past mistakes we would like to correct, all these are now possible. It can be a very exciting prospect. We can also begin the new church year on a very confident note. The grace of God that sustained us through this past year will carry us forward into the year to come. As St. Paul reminds us, we have nothing to fear from the past of the future. A new church year can also be exhilarating. Think of the new people we will meet. Think of the new challenges we will face. Think of the unforeseen possibilities that will present themselves to us. And all of this by God s great design. Our lives, our safety, our future is in God s almighty hand. May this new church year be especially blessed for us. The Trinity Truth LW M L N e w s Join in supporting and praying for the LWML Mission Goal, which shares Jesus love by reaching out to the hurting, helpless, and unbelieving people throughout the world. Giving Tuesday is November 27, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. It takes the focus off of the commercialism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday and instead celebrates giving back. The goal is to use Giving Tuesday to spread the Gospel message by collecting money and raising awareness of LWML Mission Grants, which share the love of Jesus throughout all nations. Thanks to two generous donors, this year all Giving Tuesday donations will be matched up to $20,000 in matching funds. To give to this mission, go to the LWML Giving Tuesday website at www.lwml.org/givingtuesday and click on Donate. S c r u b B u c ke t s f o r D i s a s t e r V i c t i m s LWML is sponsoring a free will offering after services each Sunday through Thanksgiving. The money collected will be given to Lutheran Church Charities to be used for the Scrub Bucket Project. The scrub buckets will be filled with cleaning items to be handed out to families affected by the recent hurricanes and floods. The cost of preparing one 5 gallon disaster relief bucket is $25-$30. With your help, we can bring hope into situations where people are suffering and have lost hope. These scrub buckets are needed now to help facilitate recovery. F r e e B i ke s f o r N e e d y Fa m i l i e s Bob s Free Bikes provides free bikes to needy children and adults. They are located in the EVIT building (formerly Four Peaks School) in Fountain Hills. They always need bikes to donate and they also need volunteers to work on the bikes that are donated to them to put them in the best condition. It you are interested in participating in this project, or if you know of any needy families that could use these donated, reconditioned bikes, please call Anita. Office volunteers are also needed. Since this project started almost three years ago, Bob s Free Bikes has donated over 1,000 bikes to needy families. As a non-profit business, they also accept cash or check donations. At the present time they have 200 bikes available and ready to be donated, including one adult tricycle. For further information go to their website Page 2 at bobsfreebikes.org. The owner of Bob s Free Bikes is retired from the Make a Wish Foundation and he has continued his mission of helping the needy with this free bike program.
