TODAY AT ELMHURST CRC Hell is real. Hell is an existence where God is not present: no grace, no joy, no celebration... is an existence without God. C.S. Lewis once wrote that...there are two kinds of people in the world: those who say to God, Your will be done and those to whom God says, Your will be done. The reality is, God is patient with you, not wanting you to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. II Peter 3:9. NEXT WEEK AT ELMHURST CRC Is there a heaven? Yes!! The Bible is clear about the existence of heaven: it is a place where there is no evil, no sorrow, no disease, no suffering, no worry or conflict. It is where we realize the reality of not my will, but yours. We won t care about personal preferences, theological nuances, or doctrinal minutiae. In the meantime, we see glimpses of heaven on earth. On this Christ the King Sunday, we will find glimpses as we welcome new members to our church community and celebrate the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper. You can read Revelation 21:23-24, 27 to get inspired for this worship service. OUR CHURCH FAMILY Today we celebrate the sacrament of baptism as Julia Grace Feenstra, daughter of Dawn & Ted Feenstra, is baptized at the 9:00 am service; and Parker Jeffrey Reis, son of Mary & Mitch Reis, is baptized at the 10:30 am service. Prayer Requests: Please pray for healing and strength for Lois Arthur, Doris Baur, Henrietta Hall, Bill Poe, Maria Ramos, and Marilyn Ward. Join us in praying for each other. To send your prayer requests or praises to be included in the email prayer chain, or to receive a daily email of these requests, email prayer@elmhurstcrc.org or call the church office at 630-600-5100. If you would like your prayer request included in the weekly announcements in the worship folder please email Lisa Capozzoli, Director of Care and Community, at lisa.capozzoli@elmhurstcrc.org. ANNOUNCEMENTS Thanksgiving Day Worship will be at 10 am on Thursday, November 24. Each Thanksgiving, the deacons encourage members to express thankfulness through an offering to their favorite cause. Next week s worship folder will contain special envelopes for the Thanksgiving offering, and a list of various groups and organizations our church has supported in the past. Prayerfully consider your gift of thanksgiving. Children are invited to bring offerings of boxed goods, canned goods, toiletries, or gift cards to our Thanksgiving service for the Yorkfield Food Pantry.

Thank you to everyone who designated a gift to World Renew in recent weeks. Thanks to your generosity, we are able to give $10,415 to World Renew for their ongoing emergency relief to heavy destruction from Hurricane Matthew in Haiti and the East Coast of the U.S. after heavy rain, flooding, and mudslides destroyed homes, killed people and cut off access to food, clean water and medical supplies. Do you know a missions group or Christian service organization with a compelling project for 2017? After prayer and consideration, the Missions Team has decided to award $10,000 of its budget to fund grants of up to $2500 to support ministries, locally and globally, with projects that will be completed in 2017. Christian ministries with ties to Elmhurst CRC can submit an application at elmhurstcrc.org/serve/global-impact/missions by November 15. While no specific type of project is required for the grant, we will want to understand how the project supports the organizational mission, and advancing the Gospel (through word or deed). Contact Dan Barak or Ken Timmerman or any Missions Team member with questions regarding this grant application at missions@elmhurstcrc.org Hand Bell Choir is currently accepting new members. If you have experience playing hand bells (or would like to learn!), please contact Mary.Reitsma@LZ95.org. Advent rehearsals begin November 13. If you would like to donate items for the Fall College Exam Goodie Boxes please sign up at the information center. Donations are due by November 27, and will be packed and shipped on November 30. Items may be left in the storage room in the kitchen. Questions? Email Kathy Feringa at Kathy.Feringa@alloyacorp.org or call 630-728-3368. The GEMS girls are once again be selling beautiful Christmas wreaths, swags, and garland to benefit our GEMS club and clubs in Zambia, Africa. You will find GriefShare to be a warm, caring environment that will support you through your long journey through Grief. This is an open group so you can join at any time. PrimeTime will meet on November 21 at 10 am in the Garden Room. We'll be assembling Christmas packages for 800 prisoners at the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola. Our relationship with Angola continues with regular visits by Pastor Bert DeJong, retreats led by Elmhurst Church staff and members, and a combined worship service via internet connection. This year the service will take place at 10 am on December 18. At the end of the service each of the inmates attending worship will receive the gift from our congregation. Join us for a rewarding morning followed by a lunch served for all volunteers. Sign up at the table in the lobby. With the beauty and simplicity of music, scripture and song, come and experience rest and healing in the Healing Prayer Service. You will also have an opportunity to receive individual prayer for physical, relational, emotional, and psychological healing. Please join us in the Garden Room December 1 from 7-7:45 pm. Next Sunday (and the third Sunday of every month) you are welcome to bring donations of non-perishable food items, paper goods, and hygiene products in support of the food pantry at the Yorkfield Presbyterian Church. A list of requested items is available on the display counter in the church lobby. Please drop off items to the area by the information center. The food pantry also accepts coupons, so if you re not going to use the coupon inserts from your Sunday paper then you can donate them. Thank you! Games Club: Attention men: We are looking to start a games club for some fun and fellowship. This could be your favorite board game, but could also include various card games. Location and frequency of meetings are to be determined, but probably monthly or every other month. If you are interested, send email to Dave Van Kampen at

david.vankampen@att.net or call 630-932-7034. The Single Mothers Support Group would welcome a few women who would be willing to be friends with our single moms. A lunch or dinner outing, or including them in with your family event would make them feel so special, possibly once a month. We also need young men to be inclusive in the lives of sons, ages 10-12, of our single moms. If God should put this calling on your heart, contact Jane Loerop at jane.loerop@elmhurstcrc.org. The Single Mothers Support Group (SHE) is celebrating Christmas on December 11 at 12:15 pm with a Christmas dinner, Christmas music, fellowship, and gifts for children and adults. Come and be part of the festivities as we celebrate the birth of Christ. Child care is provided for children infants-12 years after the dinner. For further information contact Jane at janeloe@aol.com. SERVE If anyone is interested in volunteering as a Security Host please contact Diane Otters at 708-344-0320 or dotters69@att.net. My Brother's Kitchen is a collaborative ministry, bringing together suburban and urban people to serve a meal to the community and eat together. This is a great opportunity for small groups, neighborhood groups or families to do together- or you can sign up individually as well. Please call Bob Keizer at 630-247-1139 or email him at rnckeizer@prodigy.net for more information or to set a date.
