A Lenten Reflection: Join us for prayer, faith sharing, and an invitation to respond as we reflect on the Sunday Gospels of Lent! Monday, March 26 (Final meeting) 10:00-11:30 A.M. in St. Joseph s rectory. GOOD FRIDAY is a day of fast and abstinence. FASTING is to be observed by all 18 years of age and older, who have not yet celebrated their 59th birthday. On a fast day, one full meal is allowed. Two other meals, sufficient to maintain strength. ABSTINENCE is observed by all 14 years of age and older. On days of abstinence, no meat is allowed. All Are Welcome! It is time to express my appreciation for the great friendships I have had here at St. Joseph Parish over the past 9 years. As some of you may know, I am retiring at the end of May and am requesting from His Eminence a change in diaconal assignment to a parish/collaborative much closer to my home in East Bridgewater. These have been wonderful years with you and I have learned much about being a disciple of Jesus Christ from serving here with you. We have 2 more months together, plenty of time to say our goodbyes. Deacon Leo Walking with Mary a multicultural Marian Procession through the streets of Boston with Cardinal Seán O'Malley, will take place on Apr. 7 from 2:00-7:00PM. The program begins and ends at the Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help (The Mission Church) in Boston, and includes an address by Cardinal Seán. Confession, adoration, praise, and worship will also be available following the procession. For more information, contact Gail Mattulina at gmattulina@rcab.org. GOSPEL MEDITATION - ENCOURAGE DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF SCRIPTURE March 25, 2018 Palm Sunday Our humanity bleeds through today's Gospel passages in more ways than one. We see both elation and fall, hope in the midst of the darker sides of our natures. If we allow it, these Gospels hold a mirror to our own fickle hearts. The crowds cry "Hosanna" and the Apostles profess allegiance unto death. In a manner of days - even hours - Jesus is betrayed, abandoned, denied, condemned, tortured, and executed. As God, he could have stopped this horrific narrative from unfolding, but he doesn't. He allows free will to play itself out. There are nearly two millennia between this spectacle and us. We can stand safely removed, if we choose. But Lent invites us to return to this story. Lent invites us to find ourselves in the people we encounter there. Are we the repentant woman at Bethany? Are we naysayers of such lavish piety? Have we acted in a way that betrays those we love or denies what we know to be good and true? Have we fallen asleep in our faith? Have we unfairly accused others of a crime or immorality we imagine, though perhaps they didn't commit? Do we help others carry their burdens? Do we stand in solidarity with those who suffer? Do we care for the dying? This week, take up today's Gospel again. Look carefully at the Passion narrative and sit with it in silence. Find yourself in the story and ponder its meaning for your own life. Journey with Jesus to the foot of the Cross so that you too may say, along with the faithful centurion, "truly this man was the Son of God!"
