All are called according to the gifts of God unto them Doctrine and Covenants 119:8b

Ministry is humble service offered to communities, congregations, and the world by disciples who follow Jesus Christ. Ministry arises out of the fundamental understanding of God s nature as revealed in Jesus Christ and confirmed by the Holy Spirit. Ministry is about relationships in the way that God/Jesus Christ/Holy Spirit reveals divine community that is inclusive, sharing Christ s peace and boundless love. God s nature emphasizes the importance of relationships: in a triune community of three persons, God/Jesus Christ/Holy Spirit, and for a divine community that is inclusive, sharing Christ s peace and boundless love. These communities model and bear witness of Jesus Christ. As living expressions of Christ s life, ministry, and continuing presence in the world, disciples covenant with God to bring peace and reconciliation to the world, break down the walls that divide people, and share Christ s peace with everyone they meet. Having been baptized and confirmed, disciples become fully immersed in the servant life of Christ. Each day they choose to accept God s grace, drawing closer to God through spiritual practices that ground them in God s love for them and all people. They generously share Christ s peace with people who need this healing, transforming ministry. They make Christ s mission, as proclaimed in Luke 4:18 19, theirs as they engage in making the five Mission Initiatives a reality in their communities, congregations, and the world. As ministry takes place, sacred communities of unconditional love, tolerance, reconciliation, and Unity in Diversity are born. These Christ-centered communities invite and welcome those who are searching for a spiritual home and yearning to know of God s redeeming love. These grace-filled communities nurture and empower disciples as Christ s representatives to the many lives waiting to hear the redeeming words of the gospel.

Priesthood Priesthood is a sacred covenant involving the highest form of stewardship of body, mind, spirit, and relationships. The priesthood shall be composed of people of humility and integrity who are willing to extend themselves in service for others and for the well-being of the faith Doctrine and Covenants 163:6a Priesthood members are called by God for specific ministries and servant-leadership roles. Priesthood members express their calling and ministry in all aspects of life, bringing blessings to people in communities, congregations, and the world. Priesthood members serve as a team of faithful servant ministers. They unite their divinelygiven gifts and talents with others to more completely express God s love. They partner with one another and the Holy Spirit to provide grace-filled sacraments and compassionate ministries. They are dedicated to creating sacred communities that prepare, equip, and send disciples in Christ s mission. Through whole-life stewardship of body and mind, priesthood members prepare themselves through spiritual practices and lifelong learning to lead Christ s mission in the world. Priesthood members represent Community of Christ in their public ministry and daily lives. In preaching, teaching, and celebration of the sacraments, priesthood members proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ in responsible, consistent, and affirming ways. Priesthood authority originates from God, especially through God present with us in Jesus Christ. We see the foundation of authority in Jesus Christ, who humbly knelt to wash his disciples feet. This authority is sacramental in nature and requires the highest integrity and faithfulness from each priesthood member. Community of Christ authorizes ordained ministers to represent the church in ministry. The church trusts they will follow church policies and procedures, and reflect the church s mission, Enduring Principles, and beliefs in their public ministry and daily lives. Priesthood is a sacred covenant with God and the church. Each priesthood member commits to God s call and responds through faithful discipleship. Ministry is enriched as priesthood members magnify their calling through spiritual growth, study, exemplary generosity, ethical choices, and fully-accountable ministry.

Serving Together to Fulfill Christ's Mission Each day disciples choose to make Christ's mission theirs as they engage in making the five Mission Initiatives a reality in their communities, congregations, and the world.
