HopeLutheranChurch September23,2018 11:00am Inviting W Pastor Kevin C W Praeludium F.W. Zachau I L C F Blessed be the + holy Trinity, the one who fashions us, the one who heals us, the one who reforms us again and again. Amen. Let us confess our sin, calling for God's transforming power. Silence for confession Tradi onal Service September 23, 2018 11:00 am But strive for the greater gi s. And I will show you a s ll more excellent way. Source of all life, we confess that we have not allowed your grace to set us free. We fear that we are not good enough. We hear your word of love freely given to us, yet we expect others to earn it. We turn the church inward, rather than moving it outward. Forgive us. S r us. Reform us to be a church powered by love, willing to speak for what is right, act for what is just, and seek the healing of your whole crea on. Amen. God hears our cry and sends the Spirit to change us and to empower our lives in the world. Our sins are forgiven, + God s love is uncondi onal, and we are raised up as God s people who will always be made new, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen. 2

G H All Praise to Our Redeeming Lord (verses 1-3) H P Glory to God G The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And also with you. K P D The Lord be with you. And also with you. God, We come to worship today to hear your good news, to hear of faith, hope and love ringing out from your kingdom. We know that doubt, fear and hatred can shake even the strongest. Shape us into faithful hopeful people, fill us with your love that passes all understanding. We pray this together in the name of Jesus Christ Amen. 3 4

Equipping G V Alleluia N T R 1 Corinthians 1:10-13, 12:31, 13:4-8 10 Now I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you be in agreement and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same purpose. 11 For it has been reported to me by Chloe's people that there are quarrels among you, my brothers and sisters. 12 What I mean is that each of you says, "I belong to Paul," or "I belong to Apollos," or "I belong to Cephas," or "I belong to Christ." 13 Has Christ been divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you bap zed in the name of Paul? 31 But strive for the greater gi s. And I will show you a s ll more excellent way. 4 Love is pa ent; love is kind; love is not envious or boas ul or arrogant 5 or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resen ul; 6 it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. 7 It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 8 Love never ends. But as for prophecies, they will come to an end; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will come to an end. 9 For we know only in part, and we prophesy only in part; 10 but when the complete comes, the par al will come to an end. 11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became an adult, I put an end to childish ways. 12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known. 13 And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love. (NRSV) The holy Gospel according to Ma hew Glory to you, O Lord. T G Ma hew 7:1-5 1 "Do not judge, so that you may not be judged. 2 For with the judgment you make you will be judged, and the measure you give will be the measure you get. 3 Why do you see the speck in your neighbor's eye, but do not no ce the log in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your neighbor, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' while the log is in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your neighbor's eye.
