Sometimes I think of it as a bit of a calm before the storm of coming activity. For me I always remind myself of the beauty of the liturgical season of Advent. The scripture is among the most beautiful and hopeful of the entire year. It is easy to lose sight of this beauty in all that has to be done. Now is the time to make the resolution of an hour of prayerful, calm recollection on the meaning of the season at weekend mass. Make sure to prioritize this time in your schedule. A complete schedule of Advent / Christmas activities and masses will be sent electronically to parishioners this coming week. Also, next weekend s bulletin will have the complete Calendar of services and activities. As you probably have noticed in the press Cardinal Sean has formally accepted the Pastoral Planning Proposal from the APPC. Implementation of parish collaboratives will begin in 2013. It is expected that Phase I will involve 12 15 collaboratives around the archdiocese. The list of Phase I parishes will be announced in January 2013. (We do not expect to be in Phase I.) Thank you again to those who have responded to our Increased Offertory Campaign. I especially appreciate the thoughtfulness of many in their responses. Clearly a lot of thought and consideration has gone into people s responses. Some have asked for parish envelopes, some more have signed-up for On-Line Giving, and a number of parishioners have elected to make larger donations once, twice or three times a year. Some have indicated that they are unable to increase their offerings at this time. We appreciate all of these responses. If you have not responded yet, it is not too late. Please consider joining your fellow parishioners in taking responsibility for the financial wellbeing of Saint Peter Parish.

Feeding the Five Thousand They all ate and were satisfied. And when the leftover fragments were picked up, they filled twelve wicker baskets. (Luke9:17) The Ladies Sodality is sponsoring an oatmeal drive for the month of November. Baskets are at the doors of the church. Our donations will be brought to local Catholic Charities organizations. In December we will be collecting baby and toddler feeding supplies (baby spoons, bowls, sippy cups) to benefit the Catholic Charities Day Care Center in Cambridge at our annual St. Nicholas Breakfast on Sunday, December 9 th after the 10 am Mass. For more information or if you would like to help out please contact Anna Molettieri at 617-547-4235 x17 or email amolettieri@stpetercamb.org Ladies Sodality Wednesday, November 28th Rosary @ 7:10 pm Prayer Service @ 7:30 pm We invite all parishioners to join us after our prayer service to a 45 minute film on Father Emil Kapaun, Servant of God priest and martyr in the army during Korean War, who is being considered for sainthood. Christmas Choir Rehearsals for 4:00 pm Christmas Eve Mass are held on Wednesdays at 8:00 pm. Anyone who wishes to join the Choir for Christmas is welcomed. Please speak to Doreen Gulledge, Music Director, if you have any questions.

Scripture Study The Psalms O Lord, our Lord, how awesome is your name through all the earth! (Psalm 8:2) Plan to join us this coming Advent as we begin a year long two part study of the Psalms. We will begin in Advent for a four week study of Psalms of Praise and Psalms of Trust. This coming Lent we will spend time studying the Psalms of Lament and the Royal Psalms. The Advent and Lent programs are completely independent you can register for either one or both sessions, and no previous scripture study experience is needed all are truly welcome. We will use materials from the Little Rock Scripture Study program. The study will meet on Wednesdays November 28 th, December 5 th, December 12 th and December 19 th at 7 p.m. in the Parish Center. If you are interested and would like to register or if you have any questions, please contact Anna Molettieri at amolettieri@saintpetercambridge.org or at 617-547-4235 x17 ************************************************************* Advent at Home Workshop How do you celebrate Advent at home? Are you looking for ways to bring in some Advent traditions to your family to offset the consumerist culture the Christmas season can bring? Advent is a deeply spiritual time in our tradition that can often be swept away with the busyness the holidays bring. Please join us as we look at some simple ways Advent can be brought to life at home. Bring your own ideas and traditions to share with others. The workshop will be held on Sunday December 2 nd 11:15 a.m. 12:15 p.m. in the School Cafeteria. Ethics and the University Father Jim Keenan, S.J. is hosting a series of presentations and conversations at St. Peter s on the question of ethics and the university. He will cover: student athletes, adjunct faculty, post-tenure accountability, the role of women, cheating, tuition and salaries. Remaining sessions will be held in the parish center @ 7:30 pm Wednesday, November 28th (moved to 7th grade classroom next to parish ctr.) Monday, December 10th Wednesday, January 30th Wednesday, February 27th Wednesday, March 27th A Moment of Thanks for A Lifetime of Service Sincere thanks to all who contributed to the Collection for the Retired sisters last weekend.
