2003-2008 Strategic Plan Achievements Worship (Acts 2:47; Matthew 4:10) Goal 1: Enhance the personal worship experiences of members and encourage and increase the number of potential members participating in weekly worship at David Chapel. Goal 1 Achievements 1. David Chapel leaders promoted a friendly, kind and welcoming attitude among David Chapel members. 2. The Greeters Ministry was expanded and enhanced hospitality during and after worship experiences. 3. A welcome area was established in the front lobby 4. Improvements made to the worship environment to be more convenient, comfortable and welcoming. 5. Developed and offered an alternative Saturday evening worship experience targeting young adults. 6. The Transportation Ministry was expanded to include more volunteers and scope to provide van transportation for worshipers who need transportation. Parking agreement in place with the Travis County Housing Authority to accommodate additional parking 7. Efforts made to expand communication through media and printed materials, utilizing a brand that is clearly identifiable as representing David Chapel. 8. Increased the availability of parking spaces and utilized the Travis County Housing Authority parking 9. Weekly pastor s prayer through Phone Tree. Ministry (Acts 2:45; Eph. 4:12) Goal 2: Create the environment and provide the resources, training and tools to maximize servanthood and participation in ministry by David Chapel members. Goal 2 Achievements 1. Greater focus all of David Chapel s organizations/ministries on the overall programs and activities that David Chapel is pursuing as a church family. 2. Significantly reduced scheduling conflicts with other ministries by continually analyzing and revising scheduling of activities 3. Leadership skills training provided to current and prospective leaders. 4. Establish leadership trainee positions in ministries to expand leadership pool, such as the Yokeman inititive. 5. Ministries budgeting process included specific, quantifiable, and achievable performance targets 6. Implemented SHAPE (Spiritual gifts-heart-aptitude-personality-experiences) Ministry to identify and encourage believer participation in at least one area of
ministry fit 7. Hired a full-time Minister to Students, and currently filling the position with a parttime person 8. Provided biblical studies classes for adults, youth, and children. 9. Established a ministry bulletin board to highlight ministry activities and events 10. Hosted an Honoring Our Seniors Program on a bi-annually basis, developed and implemented a Senior Adults Ministry ( Platinum Plus Ministry ), with an annual Senior Adults celebration. Extending Christ s Mission (Acts 2:42b, 47; Matthew 28: 19-20) Goal 3: Effectively Communicate God s Word Goal 3 Achievements 1. David Chapel membership was trained to effectively share God s Word with the unchurched, through Sharing Jesus Without Fear curriculum. 2. Developed an effective outreach ministry using the Praying For You model as the basic approach 3. Expanded and enhanced David Chapel communication through oral, media and printed contacts Extending Christ s Mission (Acts 2:42b, 47; Matthew 28: 19-20) Goal 4: Reach out to the Unchurched in a Loving and Caring Manner Goal 4 Achievements 1. Developed a comprehensive system to efficiently and effectively respond to requested needs. 2. David Chapel collaborated with other organizations in the Austin community to minister to human and spiritual needs. 3. David Chapel collaborated with the Baptist University of the Americas to begin the process for sponsoring a Spanish-culture/Hispanic Baptist ministry to minister to the growing Hispanic/Spanish-speaking population in the Chestnut neighborhood 4. David Chapel celebrated and recognized members participation in outreach on a regular and ongoing basis, through the church newsletter Fellowship (Acts 2:47, Ephesians 2:19) Goal 5: Increase the opportunities for relationship building and meaningful fellowship between members and potential members Goal 5 Achievements 1. Implemented regular church wide fellowship activities 2. Planned and scheduled Family Nights and Parents Night Out activities 3. David chapel members formed partnerships with other local churches for fellowship activities.
Discipleship (Acts 2:42; Ephesians 4:12b-13; Colossians 1:28) Goal 6: Make devoted followers (disciples) of Christ who: are knowledgeable about His word; have a personal relationship with Him; are convicted by His love; are equipped to nurture others; will provide encouragement and role modeling to others; and will demonstrate a growing faith in Him. Goal 6 Achievements 1. David Chapel provided its members and visitors varied course offerings at Sunday morning Christian Education Hour, day-time and evening Bible studies 2. Implemented SHAPE (Spiritual gifts-heart-aptitude-personality-experiences) Ministry to identify and encourage believer participation in at least one area of ministry fit 3. Continuing to develop and implement a mentoring model to lead mature believers to commit to role modeling and mentoring activities for new believers. 4. Increased consistent participation in the Sunday morning Christian Education Hour and promote the disciple-training focus. 5. Encouraged participation in Crown Financial Ministries, United We Build, and other stewardship efforts. 6. Modified New Member Orientation process to remove barriers hindering completion of process by new members. Facility Facility Achievements 1. David Chapel s present facility needs clear signage to identify the facility and areas in the facility, so that people can easily locate these areas. Implementation date: February 2003 2. Hire staff to be responsible for closing and locking building and setting security system on afternoons/evenings when facility is being used. Implementation date: December 2002 3. David Chapel needs more space and facilities to accommodate increasing 4. educational and ministry offerings, a growing congregation, and parking. 5. Implementation date: December 2002 (begin planning) 6. David Chapel needs to engage an architectural firm to assist in evaluating potential property based on the City of Austin s development guidelines and develop design plans for a new facility appropriate to our vision. Implementation date: February 2003 or later, if necessary. Reaffirmed by church vote, December 2009. 7. Recognizing the space limitations of our present facility and grounds, we are trusting God for a new relocation site to accommodate growth (Hebrews 11:8). Implement 2003 United We Build capital fundraising effort.
