Responsive Reading Leader: Joining the mission of God, the church is sent with the gospel of the kingdom All: to call everyone to know and follow Christ, and to proclaim to all the assurance that in the name of Jesus there is forgiveness of sin and new life for all who repent and believe. Leader: The Spirit calls all members to embrace God s mission in their neighborhoods and in the world: All: to feed the hungry, bring water to the thirsty, welcome the stranger, clothe the naked, care for the sick, and free the prisoner. We repent of leaving this work to a few, for this mission is central to our being. In worship we will focus on God s call to involve all his people at all time in the work of building his kingdom. Mission is not something we support, but it is something in which we participate. Rev. Peter Semeyn and Dr. Steve Timmermans, the Executive Director of the Christian Reformed Church in North America, will share God s call for us to follow him where he is leading us. Our focus will be on what God is doing in and through the local church. NEXT WEEK AT ELMHURST CRC As the season of Lent begins, we'll begin a new series on following Jesus' footsteps by growing in the art of prayer. Even though praying is an almost universal human experience, most Christians are dissatisfied with the current state of their own prayer life. You can read Luke 11:1-4 to prepare for this worship service. We will also ordain and install new Elders and Deacons in both worship services. OUR CHURCH FAMILY Congratulations to Amy & Nathan Diepstra who welcomed a son, Graham Nathan, on January 29. The Missionary of the Month is Chris Langkamp of Lampstand Ministries. Lampstand is now celebrating 19 years of urban ministry on the west side of Chicago. Chris assists My Brother s Kitchen on Saturdays, which served about 15,000 meals to those in need in 2014. Please attend the Missions program that will be held in the Garden Room right after each service today to enjoy good food and to hear an interview with Chris as he tells about his ministry.

ANNOUNCEMENTS At the annual Congregational Meeting on February 11, the Elmhurst Ministries Fund (EMF) 2015 budget was approved, and the following members were elected to three-year terms of office: Thomas Day (elder), Bob Venhousen (elder), Dan Van Drunen (elder) John Selph (elder), Eric Anderson (deacon), Kathy Jelinek (deacon), Doug Smith (deacon) and Robert Orange (deacon). Today is Missions Sunday 2015! Join us following each service for snacks and a 45-minute program in the Garden Room. We'll hear directly from missionaries that are supported by our church, and celebrate what God is doing to grow his Kingdom around the world through our missionaries ministries. There is no Adult Ed today. Instead please stop by the Missions Sunday program in the Garden Room. Join us next week for one of two Adult Ed options: a networking session in which you will discover your spiritual gifts, personal style, and God-given passion; or Share Jesus Without Fear - learning how to navigate a witnessing conversation in everyday situations. Last week's worship was enlivened by Cellissimo, a group of cellists from the Western Springs School of Talent Education and the Naperville Suzuki School. In total, the schools have over 65 young cellists who will be performing their annual Winter Concert today at 2 pm in the Worship Center at Elmhurst CRC. You are invited to mark the first day of Lent by attending a special Ash Wednesday worship service, February 18 at 7 pm. The 45- minute service includes a generous amount of music and singing, a time for quiet prayer, and will conclude with the imposition of ashes. The imposition of ashes is an ancient Christian tradition in which worshipers are marked on the forehead with ashes in the sign of the cross. This action has multiple layers of meaning: 1) Ashes are a symbol of our repentance, of our desire to turn back to God; 2) Ashes demonstrate our solidarity with Jesus, and with his journey to the cross and through the grave; 3) The sign of the cross in ashes is Christ s own signature on us that we belong to him. We trust this time of worship will help us enter more fully into the life of Christ this Lent and Easter season. You are invited to the Cadet Pancake Breakfast fundraiser (donation-based) on February 21 from 8-10 am. Join us for a morning of food and fellowship! The LEAP Ministry, for children of special needs, is having a LEAP Family Pizza Party on February 21 from 4-6 pm in the Lower Level West Wing. Come and meet our LEAP Ministry children, families, teachers, and buddies. Please RSVP to Lisa Capozzoli at lisa.capozzoli@elmhurstcrc.org. Our congregation has been invited to partner with Elim Christian Services in the Chicago Triathlon on August 29-30 to raise funds for Elim's Inner City School Kit Program. Bob Stine,

Elim's Manager of Community Engagement, will be providing two information sessions on this wonderful opportunity on February 22 at 10:10 am and 12:15 pm in the Garden Room. Please join us! Did you know that the 1st-5th grade students sponsor a child in Children's Worship? Their sponsor child, Harriet, turns seven on February 22. Our children are bringing in extra offerings this month to help World Vision provide Harriet, her nine siblings, and the children of her village with a birthday party of food, games, and music. Thank you children! As you live out your faith on a daily basis is anyone following you? Are you living into the words of Matthew and the words of our vision? Do you love God and love people? We want to give you the opportunity to become a DISCIPLE MAKER, to help equip you for the task of leading a believer deeper into their faith as you walk alongside them, in turn asking them to do the same. Our five-session DISCIPLE MAKER training sessions are Tuesdays, 2/24, 3/3, 3/10, 3/17 and 3/24 from 7:30-9 pm. Contact Paul Daly for details at paul.daly@elmhurstcrc.org. Save the date for the Elmhurst St. Patrick s Day Parade on March 7 at 12 pm. We ll march as a church community, hand out candy, pass out info about ECRC, and have fun. Dress in green or come as you are; strollers and wagons are welcome. Sign up at the Information Center today. We invite you to donate hard candy for the parade (individually wrapped, no chocolate or nuts) at the box at the Info Center (donation receipt available) by March 1. For 17 years the Association for a More Just Society (AJS) has been praying, dreaming and working to bring hope to Honduras. Join AJS co-founder Kurt VerBeek as he tells the story of how God is using brave Christians in Honduras to use their voice to speak up! Come to the Celebration of Justice Dinner on March 7, 6:30 pm at Elmhurst CRC. Please RSVP online at www.ajsus.org/celebration or via phone at 800-897-1135. SERVE Do you have the gift of administration and some time each week to assist with administrative tasks? If so, please contact Kirsten at kirsten.fryer@elmhurstcrc.org. Computer proficiency is a plus, but not required. My Brother's Kitchen (A Community Services Team Partner) is a collaborative ministry, bringing together suburban and urban people to serve a meal to the community and eat together. Our church has committed to serving the 2nd Saturday of each month, 9:30 am -1:30 pm, in Lawndale at 1241 S. Pulaski. If you or a small group are interested, contact Bob Keizer at 630-247-1139. COMMUNITY

The Timothy Christian School WorldView program exists to build relationships and foster understanding across cultures. If you have ever wondered about being a host family in either our school year, or our short-term programs, please consider attending our informational meeting on February 25 at 7 pm. Lombard Christian Reformed Church is pleased to announce a combined concert featuring the Men of A-Chord with the Kings Choraliers of Grand Rapids, MI. The concert will be on February 28 at 7 pm at Lombard CRC (2020 S. Meyers Road). Proceeds from a free will offering will benefit the groups. For more information, please see the Men of A-Chord website at www.menofachord.org. What is Lent? Lent is the 40-day period from Ash Wednesday to Easter. The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ are at the heart of the Christian gospel, and Good Friday and Easter are two of the most significant celebrations of the Christian year. Lent is a season of preparation and repentance during which we anticipate Good Friday and Easter. Just as we carefully prepare for big events in our personal lives, such as a wedding or commencement, Lent invites us to make our hearts ready for remembering Jesus passion and celebrating Jesus resurrection. ~ The Worship Sourcebook (CRCNA/RCA publication)
