The Friendship Force Tucson/Southern Arizona 2014 November President s Message Greetings everyone. it is good to be back in Tucson and I look forward to our meeting on Nov 23. We will have a chance to talk about the Taiwan exchange and update everyone on the Mexico exchange to take place in April/May. We will also select our officers for next year and discuss the club events for the remainder of 2014. Not much more to add as the time from now to the meeting is limited. Remember your dues for next year and see you Nov 23 at the Dusenberry Library. Jerry Friendship Force of Tucson-Southern Arizona s October 8, 2014 Board Meeting Jerry Vriesenga, President, brought the meeting to order in the Kuyper home. Bob Kuyper, Vice President, announced an order of nametags is ready and paid for by new members. There are four more prospective members. Carolee Lawrence, treasurer, reported a balance of $2,605.42. 2015 dues of $30 rd single and $55 couple and are due by November 23, our next general meeting. Cary Fishman, Exchange Director for the Taiwan exchange, said there are seventeen ambassadors going. A few last minute changes and corrections have happened but all is well. FFI is willing to transfer money for the exchange, quite a savings. Jerry said the incoming domestic exchange from Las Vegas will be in January. Linda Wall is ED. Nine host families have signed up so far. The outgoing exchange into Mexico will be spring but exact dates will help members decide. There is much walking. Following is our Wish List, 2016, for members to vote on the three we will send into FFI: Leubeck (Germany), Western Canada, Great Britain, Indonesia, Japan, S. Korea

Candidates for election at November meeting: Jerry Vriesenga, President Bob Kuyper, Vice-President Laurie Snodgrass, Secretary (with subs when needed) Judy Fishman, Treasurer Carolee Lawrence will become Exchange Coordinator for 2015. Bob will not be available for the November meeting. Norm and Laurie will handle registration and raffle. Cary showed us pens which we decided to order with our name and slogan on them. Members will be offered them at $1.00 a pen. They make great gifts or promotional items. th Our next Board meeting will be December 10, 1:00, at Carolee's home. Respectfully Submitted, Laurie Snodgrass, Secretary Friendship Force of Tucson-Southern Arizona s Minutes of September 28, 2014 Meeting The meeting was held in Woods Library 2:30 social time, 3:00 business meeting. The carpet at Dusenberry Library was to be changed out at that time requiring the change. Jerry Vriesenga, President, opened the meeting as all repeated the Friendship Force Pledge. Guests introduced themselves. Tina Ross, from Australia now residing in Marana, was with Janette McKeon, member of the Gold Coast FF in Australia and visiting Tina. We also welcomed Lynne Murguia, an eastside Tucson resident. Cary Fishman and Jerry highlighted Friendship Force for all. Gerald and Carol Rucks, members of FF in Oregon, attended our meeting and, as they are permanent in Tucson, wish to join our club. Shirley Hauck, one of our snowbird members from Washington State is attending the International Conference in New Zealand. Bal Denes, a former member of our club had moved to Thailand to be close to his daughter. Andrienne Knoll of Tucson has joined our club, but could not attend in September. Judy Fishman announced that Nancy Haugh had another heart attack and is very weak. Bob Callahan, former member, died in Chicago. Many shared summer adventures. 2

Carolee Lawrence, treasurer, reported a total of $2,402.92. Jerry said that, because of the FFI increase, our dues will go up to $30 single and $55 for a couple by the November meeting for 2015. Judy audited the books for 2013 and found all reconciled and in order. Cary, ED, gave us an exciting run-down of the final plans concerning the Taiwan exchange. The Board decided summer exchanges into Tucson are too difficult to arrange with so many of our members being gone. The weather is unpredictable at that time of year as well. January Las Vegas incoming exchange April Vera Cruz/Chiapas outgoing exchange (much walking) October Napa Sonoma November meeting will include election of officers. Jerry and Bob will continue another year as President and Vice President. Some shuffling will take place for Secretary and Treasurer so we may appoint an Exchange Coordinator as well. The next Board meeting, to which all are invited, will be in Bob Kuyper's home th October 8, 1:00. The November general meeting is scheduled for November rd 23, before Thanksgiving. Several possibilities were presented as exchanges in 2015/2016: Luebeck (Germany), Denmark, Pendicton (Canada), Conference at Saskatoon, Vancouver BC Whitby Island in Seattle, Estes Park - domestic Carolee encouraged us to become friends with foreign students at UA. This program introduces us to Friends from many parts of the world. The meeting was closed in song - Let There Be Peace on Earth Those eating at Pastiche were too few in number but did enjoy the meal together. Respectfully submitted, Laurie Sno dgrass, Secretary Friendship Force of Tucson/Southern Arizona s Next General Meeting Our next Friendship Force of Tucson/Southern Arizona s general meeting will be held on November 23, 2014 at the Dusenberry Library located at River Road and Craycroft. The social time will begin at 2:30 pm with the general meeting starting at 3pm. 3

Dues are due at our next general meeting on November 23, 2014.and are as follows: $55 for Couples $30 for Singles $30 for Dual Member Couples $15 for Dual Member Individuals Tucson Exchange to Taichung and Kaohsiung, Taiwan Seventeen Ambassadors recently returned from an Exchange to Taiwan. We spent three nights in Taipei resting up from the plane ride and seeing the sights in and around Taipei. We then proceeded by Taiwan High Speed Rail to our home-stays. Our hosts were very happy, friendly people. They had set up schedules which exposed us to much of their culture -- schools, temples, and more. Welcome parties, Farewell parties, and bus tours filled the days. The food was delicious and plentiful. We met with representatives of their local governments and brought them greetings from Tucson Mayor Rothschild. This was a first outgoing Exchange for several of our Ambassadors, and they all agreed that it was a wonderful experience. President Jerry Vriesenga expressed the feelings of all of us when he told the Taiwan clubs that we would welcome an Exchange by either club to Tucson. Cary Fishman, ED 4
