November 18, 2018 Sunday News Morning edition VIBRANT INCLUSIVE PROGRESSIVE Fight against transphobia. Help create equal and safe opportunities. Never forget those who were lost. On November 20, 2018 the world will recognize Trans Day of Remembrance (TDoR) in light of recent physical, sexual, and political attacks made on the lives of trans people everywhere, this day has become even more important. With recent news breaking about the Trump administration considering defining gender as a biological, immutable condition determined by genitalia at birth, the transgender community and allies responded with a resounding we will not be erased. Although these threats lie across the border, we in the north are not immune to such harmful attacks on trans lives. Everyday they are faced with difficulties surrounding employment. This may be as a result of discriminatory hiring practices, the difficulties faced when trying to obtain documents in their chosen name (university degrees or a diploma), or the inability to provide references due to safety concerns. Trans persons face not only rejection from general society, but also within the LGBTQ2+ community who often forget that it was the efforts and sacrifices of trans women of colour who made their access to fundamental human rights possible. Let us not stay silent, let us raise our voices for those who can t and leave the door open behind us for those who have not been given a key. On TDoR let us join with trans community, and proclaim that WE WILL NOT BE ERASED. Let us remember those who have been taken from us out of hate and fear, they are forever in our hearts. Questions? News From the Board of Directors After almost nine months as our Senior Pastor, Jeff shared his desire to partner with us to discern how we need to move forward together as we continue our journey to be the church God calls us to be. We have had financial challenges for the past several years and we need to reconsider our budgeting process: instead of fitting our programs into a budget, we need to consider our budget from both the perspective of what programs we value, and our consistent pattern of income projections not being achieved. On November 4 we held a Town Hall meeting which began this process. To read the minutes from that meeting please visit our website at board.mcctoronto.com Refugee Ministry Says Thank You Our Refugee Ministry has received an amazing amount of donations, and for this we want to say thank you for helping hundreds of refugees. At this time due to the change in weather we are prioritizing fall/ winter coats for our newcomers who are not yet fully prepared for what may be a drastic weather change for some.
