Page 2 The Adventurer Mixing Bowl Soon. Very soon. The sprinkles will come down from the top shelf. Soon. Very soon. The tupperware containing flour will be filled to the brim. Soon. Very Soon. An inventory will be taken of cookie sheets. Soon. Very soon. The supply of vanilla and spices will be checked. Soon. Very soon. Marsha will ask me to reach for the large mixing bowl. Sugar will be purchased. Eggs will be on the shopping list. Milk. Flour. Walnuts. My wife is an excellent cook. And she has learned the fine art of baking my favorite Christmas cookies. Sooo---I like it when she starts taking inventory in the cupboards. I like it when she makes meal plans. I like it when sets the date for baking cookies. I REALLY like it when she starts to pour all those ingredients in the biggest mixing bowl we ve got because I know that once all those goodies are mixed together, rolled out, put on a pan, baked in 375 degree heat we are going to enjoy something very, very good! During the month of November the mixing bowl comes down! The bowl comes down at home. The bowl comes down----at church. We will soon enter a favorite time of year for many of us. We are just weeks away from Thanksgiving-----and Advent and Christmas will not be far behind! Now, for all of you who are saying, Oh Pastor, don t rush it ----have you forgotten how good it is to taste all that comes from those mixing bowls?? Now.I am not speaking about flour and vanilla, nor sugar and spice.please consider all that the Spirit of our living God mixes together for us during this upcoming season! Soon. Very Soon. The Lord God begins to reach for the mixing bowl on the top shelf of heaven, and He prepares a great feast of joy, hope, peace, faith, and wonder for us all! What s in the bowl? A whole lot of worship, a dash of candlelight, add a Carol that brings a tear, the laughter of our children, toss in some sacramental food, body and blood; add the inspiration of God s Word, Words from Isaiah and Luke, pour in the love of Jesus our Savior, unconditional, free love, and FINALLY.add the open heart of each child, teenager, woman and man..bake it in the warmth of a caring community of God s people---and wow, you ve got something very special. Miraculous. Soon. Very soon. My wife will reach for the mixing bowl. When she does, we will start the season with a kiss. Soon. Very soon. My Father---your Father is reaching for the mixing bowl. Gracious Hands will soon add blessing after blessing.i can t wait. Let s start the season with worship and a prayer---and than..well.i ve got an idea.let s lick the bowl! A very blessed Thanksgiving! Pastor Matt, Marsha, Jen & Matthew Ryan

Page 8 Service Board Thrivent Financial Just a moment of your time is needed. Elections for the Thrivent Master s Chapter Board will be held in between services and after the late service on Sunday, November 7 th, 2010, in our church fellowship hall. Each Thrivent financial member will receive a ballot, fill it out and return it to the Thrivent advocate. Prior to elections, you may review the ballot on the Thrivent bulletin board in the hallway outside the fellowship hall. If you are interested in volunteering for a vacancy or would like to be considered for any position, you may write-in your name on the ballot. Our participation in this election enables Thrivent Financial to fulfill their legal requirements for an election. To thank you for your time, Missionary support for November 7 th and November 14 th is provided by Thrivent Financial Services. If you have any questions, please contact Linda Lawrence, 706-364-0685, Thrivent Advocate. Interfaith Update During the week of October 3rd - 10th Advent hosted Interfaith guests. One of guests, Angel and her four children have since moved into an apartment. This is her first step toward independence; her own transitional apartment that she maybe in for up to two years. The kids were so excited as they picked out their own bedrooms and unpacked many of their things that had been in storage. Please continue to pray for Angel and her children and the Interfaith program which helps so many. Angel Tree This year we are using the United Way Christmas Clearinghouse data base to enroll our children for participation in our Angel Tree. Each child s pertinent data will be entered into the secure computer base and immediately we will know whether or not the child is receiving assistance from another organization. If the child is not being assisted, the child will be assigned to Advent Lutheran. The data base was established to reach the greatest number of children and provide them with assistance. The organizations participating in this program include the Salvation Army, Augusta Urban Ministries, Toys for Tots, and James Brown Giveaway, as well as other churches in our area. The guidelines provided are as follows: $30.00 maximum spent on the child and eligibility is 12 years of age and younger. You are not restricted to the monetary guideline; this is provided for you to know what other agencies are doing. Registration took place the third week in October and the Angel Tree will be posted on November 21 st. Advent Church members may submit a child or children for inclusion in the angel tree by contacting Linda Lawrence, Advent Church Service Board at 706-364-0685 or by leaving a message with the office. Issue 10 Page 9 Dear Lord, As we gather together around this table laden with your plentiful gifts to us, we thank You for always providing what we really need. And for sometimes granting wishes for things we don t really need. Today, let us be especially thankful for each other-for family and friends who enrich our lives in wonderful ways, even when they present us with challenges. Let us join together now in peaceful, loving fellowship to celebrate your love for us and our love for each other. Amen.
