CHILDREN S TIME WITH PASTOR BOB MCKEE SONG: I WALK BY FAITH SHARING OF THE PEACE [P] The peace of the Lord be with you always. [C] And also with you. (Share your peace, with one another, and then please be seated.) GOD ENCOUNTERS HIS PEOPLE THROUGH HIS WORD 1 st Reading Genesis 32:22-31 Read by Karen Greguras The same night he got up and took his two wives, his two maids, and his eleven children, and crossed the ford of the Jabbok. He took them and sent them across the stream, and likewise everything that he had. Jacob was left alone; and a man wrestled with him until daybreak. When the man saw that he did not prevail against Jacob, he struck him on the hip socket; and Jacob's hip was put out of joint as he wrestled with him. Then he said, "Let me go, for the day is breaking." But Jacob said, "I will not let you go, unless you bless me." So he said to him, "What is your name?" And he said, "Jacob." Then the man said, "You shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel, for you have striven with God and with humans, and have prevailed." Then Jacob asked him, "Please tell me your name." But he said, "Why is it that you ask my name?" And there he blessed him. So Jacob called the place Peniel, saying, "For I have seen God face to face, and yet my life is preserved." The sun rose upon him as he passed Penuel, limping because of his hip. Psalm 13 Led by Karen Greguras [W] How long, O LORD? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? [M] How long must I bear pain in my soul, and have sorrow in my heart all day long? How long shall my enemy be exalted over me? [W] Consider and answer me, O LORD my God! Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep the sleep of death, [M] and my enemy will say, "I have prevailed"; my foes will rejoice because I am shaken. [W] But I trusted in your steadfast love; my heart shall rejoice in your salvation. [C] I will sing to the LORD, because he has dealt bountifully with me. CHORAL OFFERING COME, YE THANKFUL PEOPLE Worship Choir By Douglas Nolan 2 nd Reading 2 Corinthians 12:1-10 Read by Ryan Peters It is necessary to boast; nothing is to be gained by it, but I will go on to visions and revelations of the Lord. I know a person in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven whether in the body or out of the body I do not know; God knows. And I know that such a person whether in the body or out of the body I do not know; God knows was caught up into Paradise and heard things that are not to be told, that no mortal is permitted to repeat. On behalf of such a one I will boast, but on my own behalf I will not boast, except of my weaknesses. But if I wish to boast, I will not be a fool, for I will be speaking the truth. But I refrain from it, so that no one may think better of me than what is seen in me or heard from

me, even considering the exceptional character of the revelations. Therefore, to keep me from being too elated, a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me, to keep me from being too elated. Three times I appealed to the Lord about this, that it would leave me, but he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness." So, I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. Therefore I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities for the sake of Christ; for whenever I am weak, then I am strong. [P] Lift up your heart and receive the Holy Gospel... [C] Glory to you, O Lord. (spoken) Gospel Luke 18:1-8 Read by Pastor Bob McKee Then Jesus told them a parable about their need to pray always and not to lose heart. He said, "In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor had respect for people. In that city there was a widow who kept coming to him and saying, 'Grant me justice against my opponent.' For a while he refused; but later he said to himself, 'Though I have no fear of God and no respect for anyone, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will grant her justice, so that she may not wear me out by continually coming.'" And the Lord said, "Listen to what the unjust judge says. And will not God grant justice to his chosen ones who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long in helping them? I tell you, he will quickly grant justice to them. And yet, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?" [P] This is the Gospel of our Lord. [C] Praise to you, O Christ. (spoken) MESSAGE JACOB WRESTLES Pastor Bob McKee SERMON SONG: THE POWER OF YOUR LOVE APOSTLES CREED [C] I believe in God the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic* Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. (*universal)

GATHERING OUR TITHES AND OFFERINGS (All members and guests, please sign in on the form in the pew pads when it is passed to you. Prayer requests collected when plates are brought forward.) PRESENTATION OF OUR GIFTS [A] Let us pray... [C] Blessed are you, O Lord our God, maker of all things. Through your goodness you have blessed us with these gifts. With them we offer ourselves to your service and dedicate our lives to the care and redemption of all that you have made, for the sake of him who offered himself for us, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE [A] Let us pray for the whole people of God in Christ Jesus and for all people according to their needs. CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS (Please stand) [P] [C] Blessed be the holy Trinity, the one who fashions us, the one who heals us, the one who reforms us again and again. Amen. [P] [P] [C] [P] [C] Let us confess our sin, calling for God's transforming power. Source of all life, we confess that we have not allowed your grace to set us free. We fear that we are not good enough. We hear your word of love freely given to us, yet we expect others to earn it. We turn the church inward, rather than moving it outward. Forgive us. Stir us. Reform us to be a church powered by love, willing to speak for what is right, act for what is just, and seek the healing of your whole creation. Amen. God hears our cry and sends the Spirit to change us and to empower our lives in the world. Our sins are forgiven, God s love is unconditional, and we are raised up as God s people who will always be made new, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen. WORDS OF INSTITUTION THE LORD S PRAYER [C] Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

LAMB OF GOD (music found pg. 146) Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world; have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world; have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world; grant us peace. COMMUNION DISTRIBUTION - THE EUCHARIST (be seated) Our Lord Jesus is the host of his table. He invites all to come to him. Those who are baptized and believe in our Lord s presence...in, with, and under the bread and wine... are invited to commune by intinction. If you are not communing, please receive a blessing of the day. We come to his table via the center aisle, returning to our seats via the side aisles. If you are unable to come forward but wish the gifts Christ has for you, please notify an usher, and the servers will come to you. COMMUNION SONG: GRACE GREATER THAN OUR SIN POST COMMUNION BLESSING [P] The body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ strengthen you and keep you in his grace. [C] Amen. (music is located in hymnal service music hymn #204) [C] Thankful hearts and voices raise; tell ev ryone what God has done. Let all who seek the Lord rejoice and bear Christ s holy name. Send us with your promises and lead your people forth in joy with SHOUTS of thanksgiving. Alleluia. Alleluia. WE WELCOME TYSON & FELICIA MANULLANG INTO OUR ST. LUKE LUTHERAN CHURCH FAMILY. SENDING SONG: AMAZING GRACE, HOW SWEET THE SOUND ELW #779 (Red Hymnal) THE DISMISSAL [A] Our worship continues; our service is just begun. Go in peace to love and serve the Lord. [C] (with the joy of Christ) THANKS BE TO GOD! POSTLUDE Beth Stauter (Portions of Holy Communion, are reprinted from The Lutheran Book of Worship, Copyright (c) 1978, by permission from Augsburg Fortress.
